If you steal 50 cents every now and then, people won't notice. But the earlier posts in the thread said he tried to transfer 1.8m yuan(quarter million dollars). You're going to get attention from any bank anywhere if you suddenly transferred 250,000 dollars especially as private individual that previously never did.
Ah... I see. I understand.

No wonder the government felt suspicious and decided to apprehend him.

Thank you for the info.

I believe these are made up, some chinese people love to make these kind of stuff up.

Shirakami was caution about his identity, nobody knew who he was before this. If any authority contacted him, I believe he would aware of potential dangerous.
He might did the transfer, and then got bashed in without any warning.
That is usually the case once Winne the Pooh had run out of money and need his minion to provide some quick buck. On other side, guy must be drunk to said no the warning like that

The problem is that in China porn is illegal, so he wouldn't be able to explain how he made this 250K without having a regular job, he could lie and all, but eventually they will find out and it could be worse than the 10 years, and I agree he should've left the country asap, but who knows what goes in his mind
Not really if you had connection and back up and submit the money in regularly. Otherwise as individual, you are going to get hard.

Could be both as someone who know him decided to sabotage by make a formal report or guy must be in so a bad situation that he need a lump sum money to sort out and didn't handle the bank talk properly that cop is hitting him.

With Winne the Pooh gov's set up of surveillance and his work since 2019, guy must either talk sh1t about someone in the gov and get leak or in so bad situation that decided not to pay tax.

Regard abt miyoho, they literally paid artist to make r34 so they just either stop paying and act as not knowing rather than shoot their connection through.

Any source of HoYo paying R34 artists? :D

Aight, so let me get this straight (correct me if I'm wrong).
  • The person was from China;
  • Pornography was banned in China;
  • The person uses Patreon since 2019;
  • The person managed to snatch around 3.4K$ / month via Patreon;
  • The person chooses one of China's domestic bank (No 3rd party e.g., Paypal) as a payout option;
  • The person evaded tax, multiple times (rumored so);
  • China has access to everyone's personal data (including data on Banks, ofc);
  • China did investigation on the person's income through the person's bank account;
  • The government of China apprehended the person;
However, so far I have no clue about:
  • Did he actually evade taxes multiple times?
  • If No, then who'd reported him?
Because, the way I see it, the person managed to fly under the government's radar for quite some time. Then, all the sudden he got exposed somehow. Either someone exposed him, or he made his own mistake.
Well, rip

Fun fact many Chinese people don’t know they have to pay taxes because our government never tells us that we are taxpayers. They don’t want us to know we have rights. Most taxes are very hidden, like taxes from companies, not workers. Even if he knows he have to pay taxes, i mean. All porn is illegal in China, so how could you pay taxes for it? Aren’t you afraid of being caught for spreading sexual content? In China, if you watch it, it’s legal, but if you spread it, even if you don’t sell it, it becomes illegal. It completely no sense and most funny of all, all porn websites are banned unless you use a VPN (which is also illegal). If you care about how we handle sexual desire, I guess our government wants us to fuck real pussy after all. The sentence for writing a bl novel is longer than for rape in China. Like Shirakami, he is truly a hero and deserves better

Let's face it, making a living as a NSFW artist is difficult. There's no perfect country where you can express your art in peace.
You either live in the West and have to deal with idiots on Twitter calling you every derogatory term that exists in the English vocabulary simply for daring to sexualize fictional characters, or you live in the East and deal with the local anti-pornographic laws.

Japan may be a safe haven, but you still need to conform to their weird censorship laws, which means putting heavily pixelated genitals and black bars on your artworks.

Agree.

As far as I know, most countries in Asia has issue with pornographic content. Except, Japan. But, even if you censor your NSFW works, there's still lot of ways to sell uncensored somehow.

Other that, you're right, there's no actual safe haven for NSFW artists in Asia.

Then, making NSFW contents in western country shouldn't be a big issue. As long as you don't make questionable content, you should be fine.

Because the way I see it, I would rather dealing with mouthful of people's insult rather than dealing with government's laws. Once the government knows you're breaking the law, it's over. There's always a nutjob who works at the gov. who got bored and decided to ruin your life instead.

How do I know this? I took a law school at Uni lol. I'm sure you guys have different and better opinion.

No, no, no, no, no. There's another one in Asia, Taiwan. He's got the right plan and the right rules. Just mark it as adult. They can be sold in adult stores. Of course, the items must be officially copyrighted. Of course, children's works are not allowed. So Taiwanese artists are safe.
And there are great authors out there.

The following is what I heard,

- The chinese government/police department can monitor transections. An unemployed person who has a significant amount of money (in total) comes from aboard would be marked as a potential spy, so the police has to look into it. This means evading taxes is the trigger of this whole thing.
- The police has reminded him to pay taxes (probably even before intending to investigate him), he simply said "no, I don't need to pay taxes" (which is wrong, of course).
- When paying taxes, he doesn't need to state that he is making pornography, it could simply be "tips from Patreon" or such. Then his income would legal.

Again, everything above is just what I heard and could be wrong.

I believe it. China has a billion and a half people. Even if you believed their government was absolutely competent, there is no feasible way they have enough manpower to audit a billion people. Even the IRS doesn't have enough resources to audit all the rich people in the US. All this guy had to do was just not stick his neck out like an idiot.

did not pay taxes, directly transfer 1800k RMB to the card, at first the police even thought he was a spy. In China, individual creators have to deal with paying taxes by themselves.

An now, catching up on this...

Let me say it straight...

Guy transferred 1.8 mil AT ONES (even if it's Cn money), which is stupid to do on it's own...
Got called by the bank/irs/whatever, GOT TOLD BY THEM WHAT TO DO to avoid the tax avoidance persecution
And instead of keeping -25%, which is still a LOT, not going to jail and losing everything... he told them to fuck off :WaitWhat:

brother, how fkin dumb you are to manage this :FacePalm:
So just like Kidmo, shirakami got themselves arrested because they were greedy?

even earlier, the tax reminded him that he had overseas trade and remembered to pay the personal income tax by himself. In some screenshots of local chat records, some of his friends also reminded him, but he only replied: "No."

his own fault likely to be fair.. China manufactures Japanese NSFW figurines and adult toys day in and out, cam girls working as per normal, so many other china NSFW artists around, yet he got hit by this.

You can do anything, just not cross tax-man.

edit : I always find it funny when people claim porn is truly "illegal" there, when we got companies making porn figs openly there like these
