I'm going to give game development a try and was wondering what your thoughts are on 1st person vs 3rd person point of view games. Do you prefer one over the other or do you enjoy both equally?

1st person.

I don't mind RPGM games, but I still prefer the rendered images to be in first person.

Either perspective works. It's entirely up to how you're conveying the story across to your audience. Have a mixture of both. Certain scenes in first-person, others in third-person.

I'd say it depends on the Point of View:
If theres only the protagonist "thinking" and we as the player only know as much as the protagonist first person should be the right thing.
But if the Story contains a narrator who sometimes tells parts of the story I'd go with 3rd Person.
You can mix these if you change the point of view for a couple of scenes or story elements the easiest i guess

Is the question about narrative points of view or the placement of a camera?

If camera, I'm a big fan of any game that can do real time 3D with the option of a first person view. It's hard and almost every h-game that's tried it has failed imo, but on occasionally it's done well.

The Cathouse tail would be one example, but does it terribly, unfortunately.

The only thing I have to say about first person is that you have to commit to POV the whole way. What a lot of people tend to do that pulls me out is they will go 3rd person or show something from another person's POV, but then avoid showing the MCs face because he is supposed to be you and therefore they are hiding him. This limits the angles you can show off and as a result makes things awkward at best, completely kills immersion at worst. Offenders include big names like DMD, so its good to find a balance.

I don't have a problem empathising with an MC that I can see and have to imagine myself as. One of my favorites is Dreaming of Dana. I don't even particularly like the MC's look or character, but I was more than able to put myself in his shoes and live his story. Focus on making a character that we can relate to. If you want the character to be an everyman that's fine, it's not too hard to do, make him look plain, like Keanu Reeves for instance.

I've done some work that's sort of a mix. Mostly 3rd person, but every now and then you want to do a 1st person-like shot. You can either go full 1st-person, or sometimes what I've done is an "over the shoulder" view, where the MC is showing fuzzily.

That's a personal preference, of course. But full, complete 1st person can be hard to pull off. You can do it, but at times it backs you into a bit of a corner.

Yeah. I could see if you are doing full 1st person it might be difficult to get those complete scene, wide angle shots.

Its been years since I saw the article, but out there somewhere they did a study to see what got more arousal out of men watching porn. Solo women and Lesbian porn did worse than M/F porn. Something about seeing a man and a woman together made men more aroused. I don't think the POV genre was as big at the time, so maybe it wasn't in the running, but the point is, men statistically get more aroused when there's a male proxy in the scene. So don't be afraid to show us some big dicked mofo fucking the shit out of your characters.
