Ren'Py - 30 Year Old Virgin [v0.37.DV] [Black Star Games]

I usually check the reviews before trying out a game, but I don't read too much into it like with this game having 2.5 stars.

From what I could gather it seemed this was a grindy mess. Well... it is a mess, sort of. Grindy? Not so much, you can get through all the current content (0.26) in a couple of hours.

The game doesn't take itself seriously, there are funny situations, but also cringeworthy ones. The writing is passable, grammar's good, plot is fine and while building on a unique premise, there is really nothing standing out gameplay-wise.

What did hook me into the game, and what I consider its strongest point, are the characters. I like the design/render/clothing on almost all of them. There are no big/huge boobs iirc which is always a plus for me.

Now what really sold me on the game though is the MC's family and his interaction with them. The slow teasing and buildup with the 2 sisters was so good that I started doing the rest of the content first just to leave this for last.

While you end up having sex (quite fast) with all the summons and some side characters, there is definitely an intended slower pacing in regards to your family members. This has definitely lagged behind as there is little to no sexy time with them yet, but there's definitely a boatload of teasing. Ash is curious and naive while Faye is a closet pervert. Did I mention how spot on their renders/clothing are? Even the mother character which I usually look past in these games had me quite interested.

But while pondering why this 5 star game had such a low rating, I also realised that since my main interest was in like about only 25% of what this game has to offer, it simply doesn't reach that threshold. Hints are good, skill system straightforward, exploration is intuitive and I never found myself locked without knowing how to progress. I could add that the game is a bit barebones since I finished the current iteration in a single sitting.

I give this game a passing grade with confidence and hope the dev will focus more on advancing the storylines of the current cast of characters which for me carried pretty hard (including Rapunzel!).

Looks hot, but if you thought there's nothing worse than grindy games then you'd b wrong

You cant do this or that unless this or that
Day/Night cycles but nothing to do in one or the other so you have to all the way back to bed (you can click to skip day in this one but still just wastes time when all is said n done) or pass time everytime you want to see a scene
Can't do this or that because your not on X day of the week
And many more.. Like "leveling" a skill that is just talking to an NPC which passes time so you have to go pass more of it to get back to daytime

Could just have gallery be unlocked, if the game is good people will play it

There's grind and then there's ridiculous grind. Hard to say why they have an un-intuitive method, hints are layers down and forget about any organization... and that's for even discovering what needs to be done for so very little reward... it's just not worth it.

Plot is pretty nonsensical.
MC and a lot of other characters are mentally handicapped. This is used to fuel the humor as well. But is a bit annoying.
Plot does not try to take itself seriously. It is played for laughs with lots of jokes and/or memes.
For example, you train stealth by putting a bucket on the merchant's head and crouch walking around him. While he is actively complaining that this is abusing the game's mechanics. I laughed.
Overall I would say it is somewhat charming. I think. So I am somewhat positively inclined to it.

The art is pretty mid. Which is probably the biggest weakness of this game.
Well... some of it is really good. but other parts are unattractive. so it mixes together into mid.

A lot of scenes require you to repeat them a couple of times, yet each repeat is unique.
For example... the librarian succubus giving you an exam...
scene 1: sexy poses
scene 2: sexy poses + lap dance
scene 3: scene 1 in skimpy outfit
scene 4: scene 2 in skimpy outfit
scene 5: scene 1 in fetish underwear
scene 6: scene 2 in fetish underwear
scene 7: scene 1 naked
scene 8: scene 2 naked
scene 9: sex

And... I would say that was probably the most repetitive route in the game.

There is money all over the place so I didn't really need to grind. and the hint system is pretty good too. Shows you exactly what you can still do.

I did not see any ads so I am not taking off points for that.
I hear there are ads in the free version, but none in the subscriber version.
But I saw none. So presumably the version here is the ad free one.
Or dev dropped the idea of ads due to backlash. I am not sure which.

You can disable "all sex that is not with the MC" and a seperate toggle for "bestiality content" via 2 settings.
Even disabled they both slightly leaked into the game.

There is quite a bit of content. But spread out over many girls so only a few manage to reach sex.

This is a review of v 0.25

I'm giving it a 2 star for the simple fact that the game outright lies to you from the start of the game.

The first choice of the game, on the first screen after pressing new game, is asking if you want to turn off all sexual content with girls that doesnt involve the MC.

However even when that option is selected, you still have unavoidable lesbian scenes without MC present, and if you keep bestiality turned on those scenes are also still shown even with the MC not present.

I gave it a +1 because the renders are pretty decent and the sisters are cute but that is this games sole redeeming factor.

This is one of my favorite H-Games to date. I was skeptical of the premise, but I quickly took a liking to it. If you enjoy absurd dumb stories in your fap material and you are a fan of 2000's internet humor mixed with comic book superhero stories, this game is excellent. I find myself grinning the entire time the story plays out and laughing out loud at points.

In addition, the actual porn is pretty great. I wasn't sure how I felt about the goblin girl, or literally just Evelynn from League of Legends, but I find myself liking the gobbo quite a lot now and I have accepted that Evelynn is just there now. I am a huge fan of the style the creator went for with the girls, the bratty sister hits so many buttons for me, it's unreal. The models look fantastic, the animations are passable. My biggest gripe with the game is the quiet. The game does get a bit awkward with absolutely no music or voice acting.

The gameplay itself is the typical sandbox porn game affair. Go to place, interact with character, watch scene, repeat. A couple of things help the flow a bit, though. The summoned characters in the game have far less slow burn before the porny bits, and the slow burn characters do get slightly more lewd every repeat instead of having a binary sexy/not sexy flag. I do wish more scenes were included in the replay though, some racey scenes are not included in the menu for whatever reason. Lastly, in your quest to get the sexy times, the game does have a good built in walkthrough if you don't feel like thinking (fair enough, this is porn after all).

Overall, if you are interested by the pictures and you don't mind the porn mashup of Harry Potter, The Justice League, and Dragon Ball Z wrapped in /b/tard story, you should check this game out.

This game is completely unplayable on mobile. It has adds that appear like every minute, for a full 30 seconds. One of these ads appeared during a scene which completely ruined it, so I've uninstalled the game. It's a shame, but now I'm so annoyed with the Dev that I'm not even going to bother installing the full game on PC.

Between the ads and absolute cringe dialogue, not worth the bandwidth it takes to download. The gameplay is standard RenPy, but an ad every 3 minutes no matter what is happening makes the game unplayable.

Tried this again almost 2 years later then my first review and theres still barely any content so had to lower this a star, 2 years and does few girls still hasent had sex once.....its just to little for to much grind as of v.0.36

The story isent bad but its not great either, there are a few fun parts and that about it.

Animations, i did see a few and they are average at best.

Its a silent game as well which can make you sleepy doing all the sandbox stuf which is just a pain, i mean to get a hand job in bed you have to invite the sister for a wake up call for what feels like a million times, startting with her looking then touching with 1 finger after 50 times of that MC finaly sleep nude and it just starts over, where she looks, touch with a finger...you get the picture its drawn out so much it truely becomes boring.

Theres a little more sexual content compared to 2 years ago but its minimal.

The hole grind where your forced to do the same scenes over and over to get maybe 2 new renders are just not worth it.

For 5GB it would seem like its a very big game, but in the images folder there are 3000 images.
The game is divided in 3 sections, home, city and magic hat, and that is pretty much the folder structure.
Everything that is inside the HAT folder is useless, just silly (not funny) stories with ugly fantasy races doing stuff and jumping and fighting.
Almost everything inside the CITY is also useless, once again, ugly fantasy races that belong to the lore, and ugly people just being there and talking, (plus batman),
Once established that those 2 folders are useless for a person that wants to enjoy a story and fap, more than 1600 images are discarded.
In the HOME folder we have 1000 images which is the useful part of the game but there are still many images related to hud and navigation that im not counting.
Inside that folder there are 10 subfolders and the one that contains the events of one of the rooms (specifically the basement) has 40% of the total images. In the basement you summon fantasy side characters to do lewd stuff, so even if this is sex related stuff, it is drom dish served side characters, and feels like they are tere to balance the blueballfest of the core part of the game.

The game feels quite empty right now and it is mainly because there are 400 renders left for the core part of the story which is the actual household and its characters, and also cause these remaining 400 renders are used mostly used and reused following that stupid event formula of repeating the same renders over and over advancing one frame each time, so you may have an event with 10 steps but its actually an event with 4 base images +8 images that you have to do in 10 days and spend 20 minutes instead of 3. Personnaly I can tolerate it if the sillyness and hotness are balanced, but with the amount of silly the game has, and the few useful renders left its hard to swallow.

If im giving 2 stars is because there are funny parts, even if I think that it should be toned down or balanced. Lesbian wars was funny, but more funny than hot since there is nothing special in the presentation, it relies on context but the form is the average. Still if all the game had the level of that event it would be a 4stars.

TLDR
1-5GB should mean a BIG game, but actually a regular person would find only 600MB of those of useful content.
2- Too much sillyness and side stories turn off and oversaturate.
3-Events that are actually short but are cut into countless pieces in the span of days.
4-It feels empty, and the main characters have like 2 short events each.
5-Related to all of the above, the game is like 80% filler in v023

Short description:
An overall average game, overbloated with sillyness and pointless side stories kidnapping production time, that will need 2 years of updates before I revisit it, which I will, but right now is not worth.

I've played this game for three hours now and have loved it.

The good:
- Renders are terrific, and there are scenes that are def fappable
- There is a ton of humor in this game which is always a plus
- Looking forward to future releases of this
- Character models are unique to any other games out there (if not lemme know)

The meh:
- Story so far...is okay. Just okay, and that's okay because again there's a lot of humor in here.
- The clickable items are kind of a pain.
- The hint system is good, but I'm still unsure what I'm supposed to do (but this is a game).

End result: Is that enough to dock it a star? No, I have very high hopes for this one. Am I a patreon? Nope, but I will become a patreon after I'm sure that the dev sticks with this after a few more releases.

Overall: Give this game a shot. Worst case scenario you're out two hours and a couple of faps that you would've spent elsewhere.

This is a game I *should* like a lot. It has just about everything I like for a light hearted romp from sleep creep, hot fam, overarching story, mild humor that isnt too annoying, etc...

So where does it go wrong?

The sandbox. Oh god the sandbox.
It looks and feels like places (people and things to click) were put out to be filled...
And then were not.


The world is a mess of clicking around to find random things, at specific times. To give a better feel, you have 90% clicking around for the 10% of content you find. Which is then repetitive mostly after you see it once.

Which leads me to the grind. This feels like an odd time gated grind with excessive exploration of nothing.
If the content were stripped from the UI and put into a linear kinetic novel, I could finish it in 5 to 10 minutes. That same amount of content took me about 1.5 hours of clicking around to find it.
Yeesh.

That said I love the content itself. Just ruined by the choice of delivery.
And of course, the amount of content itself is rather sparse and blueballing.

People writing reviews seem to impose their own negativity and lack of understanding onto games, and totally forget, its meant to be fun. The game comments appears most particularly hung up on particular genres people strongly like or dislike. All I can say there, if you feel that way, follow or forget, but theres no need to vent your spleen either way.

I found the game to fulfill the fun element I want from a game. The characters are quirky and several of them are hot, and I look forward to the game developing the relationships to get to more sexual scenes with those.

The pacing of corruption events is ok so far, although the VLDF storyline seems a little superfluous at the moment, albeit an amusing distraction, with some The Boys overtones. Whether that will become more prominent, only the author can tell. Given it is part of the premise of the whole storyline designed to set it apart from other games, I would have thought this would happen quickly if the game is to remain unique from the many others in this family genre

One bizarre annoyance I find is the size of the textbox, which although can be hidden, seems to occupy a disproportionate amount of the screen!

All in all I have found it a game I look forward to coming back to play and complete to the end of the current version, which I have now reached - and to look forward to the next updates.

*Edit* - so it seems the newest version required Windows 10 to run it. Sorry ppl but I refuse to be dictated to by an amateur gamer (or even a professional one) what OS I use. Eliteism is such a bollocks filter weapon. ranking 1 in default of being able to set Zero. What a waste of a game

Unfair to rate this 2/5 but I don't feel the time spent on this game is worth it.
There are only a few lewd scenes, the game mechanics are about the worse I've seen in a game. The story doesn't make much sense either. The renders are good but not anything special.

Only bug I found was
Eventually if or when this game get more content I'll do another review. See you in about 18 months.

3YoV, chaotic game also chaotic main character while having fast-paced events.

I haven't touch any just released game, but I found this game in the forum asking for a play-tester, curious about what would they have in the game just about to be released, I give it a try. This review is highly based on that experience, without yet trying the latest version assuming there would not be much different in it.

The game it self seemingly to embraces magical theme in modern era.

Gameplay, it seems like dev are intend to make this game to be a fast pacing game, everything that will be advanced in near future is already set in the game so player could see where this game going toward to. Which is kind of nice to have despite my curiosity about the game tend make me kind of sad leaving things at cliffhanger.

Mechanics, what I have been experienced, it's a simple errand type of grind, where you need to do things which you can skip through several time to get to certain point where you can proceed.

Well of course to be fair, I will also mention how sometimes I get confused to navigate the "room" and want to address the hints are kind of vague, but considering it's just released version, from that stand point it is understandable.

Storywise, I don't know, every time I decide to slowing my pace to read what the hell is going on, it became more chaotic than before. Kinda weird, not in the bad way.

Character, are simply the main point of the game. I appreciate the effort they put in each of them.

H-Scene, considering this is the newly released, I skipped this part. This is why I don't usually reviewing new released since it so hard to make it objective.

Overall, the game seems like intended to be fast-paced but I found myself the effort to reached that point is preventing me to felt this is fast-paced game. I wished for there will be more things to do in between in future, so it may kept the game to be felt like I stated before or I was wrong entirely.

I curios about where the game will be expanding, had few guessed but I let the devs and his community decide rather than setting a stone from someone who just reviewing game.
