Version: Chapter 30 (Epilogue 5) – FINAL
Price of Power surprised the hell out of me in the best way. It’s the kind of VN that takes its time and earns every quiet moment. From the very first chapter to the final epilogue, it’s been a slow-burn adventure that somehow kept me hooked the whole way. I’ve been following this one for a while, and seeing it finally completed feels like the end of an era. If you’re looking for a game that actually respects your brain and doesn’t just throw random scenes at you every five minutes, this is the one.
The story is beautifully written. What starts as a humble medieval-era tale, Michael, a small-village kid, and his childhood friend Maria, slowly blossoms into something heartwarming, clever, and unexpectedly deep. The twist of a post-apocalyptic future disguised as a medieval world, with AI companions like the hilarious Legacy giving PowerPoint-style lessons on “ancient” history, is genuinely brilliant world-building. The slow burn lets character development, humor, and romance shine without rushing, and the romance feels earned when it finally blooms. The epilogues tie everything together satisfyingly, making the journey feel complete while keeping the story wholesome, funny, and genuinely engaging from start to finish.
The characters are the real star. Michael is likable and grounded, he’s neither clueless nor a playboy, and his human reactions make the emotional moments land. Maria is loyal and stubborn in the best way, occasionally meddling but always endearing, while Emilia provides a sweet, shy contrast that makes her impossible not to root for. The AIs, Legacy and Eve, add a perfect layer of humor and cleverness, with Legacy’s PowerPoint-style presentations being surprisingly charming and never feeling like filler. Even the harem route, while faster than the slow burn of the story, feels like a satisfying payoff because the characters are so well-developed and engaging.
The graphics and models are excellent, with consistently attractive visuals, gorgeous backgrounds, and well-designed character models. Some forest scenes had lighting so striking I found myself just staring. Animations, especially in sex scenes, could be longer and smoother, but they’re sufficient, and the strong writing carries the experience. The soundtrack fits the tone well, though themes are occasionally reused, the music is limited yet perfectly timed to enhance romantic and dramatic moments.
The pacing won’t be for everyone, it’s deliberate and text-heavy, with lots of dialogue, but most of it builds atmosphere, world lore, and character relationships, making plot developments feel earned. Conversations sometimes run long, but the writing is far above typical VN fare, feeling more like a proper fantasy novel with 3DCG renders. Choices exist but aren’t frantic, they’re meaningful, especially in romance, and Steam achievements in later chapters are a nice bonus. Lewd content is present but never overshadows the story. If you’re looking for a “porn slideshow” to skip the story, this isn’t it. The lewd scenes take time to arrive, but they matter because you’ve spent hours getting to know the characters. The content is wholesome and romantic, lots of handholding, headpats, and genuine relationship moments, vanilla, yes, but deeply rewarding.
Price of Power is a warm, thoughtful VN that treats romance and world-building with care. It’s not a smut factory, it’s a love story with adult elements, but it balances adventure, humor, and heartfelt character moments beautifully. The only minor drawbacks are a few short sex scenes and a desire for more mid-game choices that feel impactful. Overall, it’s long, satisfying, and utterly enjoyable, a rare VN that rewards patience with memorable characters, slow-burn romance, and a plot that actually makes sense. Easily one of the best AVNs I’ve played in years, highly recommended for anyone who loves story-driven, character-first visual novels.
