the images are rendered in daz3d, which is free and good enough for this stuff and there's loads of pirate assets for it in the assets forum. but man of the house uses Unity to show those images, ie. he basically coded his own 'renpy' on unity to do it. the upside is you can very easily add any functionality you want in unity, but of course you'll also have to know how to program all of it. you COULD do m.o.t.h. on renpy just as well, but making the minigames, the map functionality and so on would be a huge pain. all of that is pretty irrelevant for the game though so you can easily tell any story you like on renpy, as long as you don't plan to add any 'clever' mechanisms into your game.
