VN - Ren'Py - Completed - A Knight's Tale [v0.36 SE] [Neverlucky]

PROS
- Renders are decent I guess? Not bad but nothing to wow at either. Kinda generic and stock looking models also badly needs an upgrade to 1080p but tbh I'm trying my best to find something positive to say about this game as nothing comes to mind so think of this as a cheat point.

CONS
- Lack of a coherent story. Its pretty much just MC and his partner Cathy looking for girls to add to his harem. No obstacles, no tension, no drama, no conflicts. Not much to look forward to honestly. You'll need to try really hard to find a shred of excitement in this VN as its very directionless and repetitive.
- There are no routes or branching storylines. You don't like this character? Doesn't matter, you'll bang her anyway.
- Empty lore. We don't hear or see anything about other lands, religions, factions, foreign kingdoms, royal families, or any sort of background information. No elaboration on the current political climate. Kinda feels like the dev just used this medieval/fantasy theme as a setting and then forgot about it.
- Every character talks like a 21st century American that's about to order Starbucks. Absolutely nothing in their manner of speech is akin to a lord or peasant from the feudal age.
- Weak MC who's just a Yes-man. You're kinda forced into this harem situation and have to accept whatever is thrown at you.

As a vanilla fan, I kinda detest that people are using the vanilla excuse as a reason for its dullness. There are many many vanilla games where the dev is successful in building excitement and immersing the player in the game. Vanilla merely alludes to the absence of the darker fetishes such as ntr, rape, corruption, scat etc. Its doesn't represent boredom. This VN is just soo extremely barebones to the extent that's it lacking in many fundamental features that we are so used to seeing in other titles.

Updated a few months later v0.29(Mostly because I forgot I even reviewed this and I have some new thoughts. Also lowered my rating.)

Its MEEE~ The guy who hates everything! I just finished though this and one thing I have to say is there is a tag that this game is missing KINETIC NOVEL. There are a total of TWO choices in this "game" that have nothing to do with the game as far as my small brain can see. (Aside from the multiple "inside or outside" choices if you get my drift) Another problem I have with this is THERE ARE SO MANY JUST VERBAL AND VISUAL NOTHINGS IT IS INFURIATING. By that I mean stuff like "Did you see that?" "Yes I saw that" Like in school you remember "repeat the question in the answer?" You don't talk like that. You don't go up to a friend and say
"do you want to hang out?" and they say
"I would love to hang out" then reply to that with
"I am so glad that we will hang out together like you said"

It's so stiff. The writing is all and I mean ALL like that. But its a little charming I guess. I don't know. I thought it was sweet. Although now thinking about it it's more a rich couple taking in two young ("18 y/o") impressionable girls and having deviant fun with them. But it's written in a way that like moms and the 50 shades of gray fans would like. So yes it comes off as sweet. I don't know.

Not terrible definitely not amazing. Also they don't use apostrophes its the backwards one on the tilde key "`" (It's called the back tick, but they also use the regular tick) so that's annoying. The only reason I don't go lower is I guess the best way to describe it is the story feels more organic than the shitty, shovelware "Bland MC somehow has all these girls start to like him." This one is more Lord and Wife take in a squire and maid and have fun, but there's also a more serious, semi dark overarching story about the king in the background that I kinda like in writing. But as it goes on, nothing is happening with that.

But if you're like me and like a bit of story give it a read its not bad and is longer than a 30 minute nothing.

HOWEVER If you're the opposite and want something like, a grindy repeatable scene game, or are into being cucked, which I will never understand, pass it up.

New Thoughts---------------------

There is no problem. As in actually NO conflict in this slow, boring story. And the time frame that the story takes place all the relationships happen very quickly. I think they should put "A few days later" more than a few times in this to feel like a longer story. And every time something happens that would be an event, the Dev decides, no I'll focus on the boring part. The wife goes to a wedding and you could do world building, or a conversation that's not:
"Hello. How is your day going? You look good today in the same thing you wear every day."
And the reply is "Oh, hello my lord.(Lord is never capitalized for some reason). My day is fine, what about you? You look good as well."

But no, you only get the actual boring bits all the time...

ALSO! DON'T make up some medieval story and include the word "Yup." Are you kidding me? That and the word "nice" are the two most used words in this thing. And even during the sex scenes. "Are you enjoying yourself?" "Yup." That's not sexy dialog. That's asking someone about their day. This time around I'm noticing it feels so damn robotic. I just don't get it. On top of that the sex scenes are re-used a few times and the renders are odd. The eyes are all dull and lifeless it's a little scary. Or at least extra uncanny.

Seeing a lot of the points I was going to make before realizing I already wrote most of them means the game isn't improving, sadly. And another criticism I've been giving lately is using the default RenPy menus. Makes it feel even more soulless. That's why, below, I'll include what I believe this story should actually be. An actual story and not the boring everyday of an old rich couple.

A knight’s tale 0.23

I look for games with a fantasy theme so I was excited to find this one. Seems like a lot of work has gone into it and the dev has a couple hundred patrons, which attests to its popularity. I’ve tried to play it several items, but I give up every time. So I thought about what I’d see as improvements to make it less frustrating.

The text could be improved in a couple of ways:

1. The dialogue is written in the style of a contemporary game, not an historical game. As such it feels out of context.

2. A lot of the text is just dull. There are several different ways to write the text of a game as it relates to the associated images.

• A few devs are gifted writers.
• Some devs allow the image to tell most or all of the story and the text is generally used as an enhancement.
• Then there are devs who write their text as if the image simply isn’t there. That seems to be the approach of this game and to me at least it ends up being as exciting as a book of cake recipes…..….Add the eggs to the flour, stir nipple until it is stiff then move to pussy. Rub pussy to ensure a smooth consistency. i.e. Much of the text in this game is saved only by the images of the ‘cakes’.

In this game the images don’t work for me either. Because of the way the dev sets up the mouths of his female characters it looks as if a lot of the otherwise appetising ‘cakes’ have a face like a clown or a child . Some people may find that appealing but I’d go into Daz Studio and work with the controls provided to change the mouth settings until they were more realistic, and that way they would be a better match to the realism in the rest of the image.

Lots of people are enjoying this game and that is great for them and the dev. Would it be more popular with a different approach to the text and the images? I’d like to think so.

I enjoyed the other game by this dev - Triangle - so I really wanted to give this a go, and have been playing it every update since the first. However, I have to say I am growing tired of it. In terms of tags, the game is "relevant to my interests" but it has the slowest burn to me.

Every update consists of 1 or 2 sex scenes, and if you play the "Special Version" of each update it usually extends whatever scenes come in the update. Generally, I enjoy the scenes, but a lot of the time it doesn't feel like the MC is in control of their own actions, and instead the focus seems more on the wife character as a bit of a "harem queen." Her having some power makes sense but a lot of the story (the lewd bits anyway) feel more driven by her desires rather than the MC which I don't really care for too much.

While there are relatively frequent sex scenes, the rest of the plot is just loads of minutiae: doing chores, paperwork, having a bath, walking around, having very irrelevant conversations with the other characters usually involving one of the aforementioned activities... It just feels like there is no progression happening and you're experiencing a slice of life at the minute by minute level. To that end: it's boring.
I don't mind continuous scenes with the same characters as long as there's advancement in the story (or the character's story).


Update: Now that I have played the completed version, I have to say that the ending felt like even the dev had enough. As previously mentioned, the game focuses on so much of the minutiae (the sliciest slice of life) that nothing really advanced. Yes, some of the ladies became pregnant and had a child (after a time skip) but that's really it. There is a massive time jump all of a sudden at the end that begins the epilogue, which is somewhat cute but mostly funny with how abrupt it was; very much a "everything is wrapped up now, THE END" feel.

Unfortunately, I don't feel this game is worth the time, even skipping through the absolutely insane amount of dialogue. I wish the dev luck on their future projects.

There are no meaningful choices, what choices there are mainly affect if you see half or all of the h-scene. Story is monotonous: wake up, eat, do paperwork, have sex, sleep .. almost every day. There is no strife or drama; conflict drive plot, this story has no plot.

The strength of this "visual novel" is the art/sex, it would be much improved by taking out all of the dialog and converting it to a slideshow of sex scenes.

First off, this game started very promising the very first updates - potentially could be a 5/5 game.
Nevertheless since the last 4 updates, the game gets more and more boring.
The story turned out to be blunt and uninteresting. The sex scenes are short, and repetive as hell, and on top there are still only 4 characters involved. No spice at all, no tension, not cufffing to the story at all.
No animations though (at least nothing which you may call "animations" with good conscience).
The character models themself are not up-to-date by quality, but still decent and attractive. That's why i give 2 stars.
Still overall the game didn't manage to keep me interested at all, and finally it's time for me to abandon, which is kind of sad - as said the game had really potential to get great (basic story setup)

This game needs a serious overhaul. Not only with the graphics, but the writing and grammar are awful. I know it's the devs discretion how he wants to write it, but using words like "Awesome" too many times and Quid pro quo? I highly doubt they used either of those words. The punctuation is seriously laughable. Using the asterisk key to not only imply the inner thoughts of the characters, but also using it for actions such as laughing? The so called animations are awful.

Maybe with a major overhaul of not only the writing and grammar, but the characters as well this might be a somewhat decent game. Hopefully in another year the game might actually be enjoyable and playable.

Art's nice, characters are cute. Faces are a bit wonky but that's more common than not with 3d render software.

Writing is not bad; fluency are good and the characterization is compelling. Scenario isn't brand new but still handled well and I really appreciate the MC not being a creep or super asshole. The pacing *may* be a bit unsteady at times with skips, periods where the relationships evolve slowly and then suddenly rush ahead, but nothing earthshattering.

Porn is very good, but group/harem settings AND pregnancy do get bonus points from me so your results may vary.

A Knight's Tale [v0.21 SE] [Neverlucky]

This is a very average game, I did like the idea of a medieval game but the game doesn't take advantage of the setting in the story and its mostly there for ambience. The game is basically the lord MC and lady wife playing house in their castle and fucking the squire girl and the servant girl. Even if it has plenty of content (sex scenes) the game gets old fast and it feels rather repetitive (everyone giving each other massages 20 times over lol). Stock renders, small cast of girls, the game is barely animated, barely has a story and no medieval music either. Not bad but not good either, don't think I'll be keeping tabs on this one.

Final Rating: C or 3/5

Okay I like this game quite a bit, I didn't like the start because I don't like when things jump straight into sex, but the rest is pretty good, sadly I don't see much effect from the choices but maybe they'll come in the future, this is not an adventure game this is a game about romance and relationships, it is about the character and that it does really well all the relationships progress in a natural manner and it is all very good from a poly perspective, no one is being tricked, no one is cheating, although I have some problems here and there for a fantasy harem game it is doing a very good job, mostly I prefer truly open relationships myself, where people can love whoever they want no matter the gender, but in this setting, it makes sense it hasn't come up since this type of relationships would even rarer than in real life, but for real though, so far so good, I hope it keeps that way.

edit: this game does have passing problems, the scenes pass too fast, maybe conversation wise maybe image-wise, but the amount of time we spend on them is not even close to the time that passes in-game, and although that is to be expected it isn't good, they should either put an "an hour later" " a few minutes later" "a couple of days later" so we actually have at least an indication of time passed, many times it feels like they spent 5 minutes doing something and act as if they have been at it for hours, so something to actually indicate the amount of time passed would be good, also the sex scenes feel like they pass to fast for the same reason, but you should never cut into one of those with the phrases that I used as an example, they should have more dialogue or at least mone onomatopeias, maybe more renders and movement, I personally don't really like animations but if they are there it should have "dialogue" that goes with it.

Bland writing, repetitive daily routines, everyone is ultra-nice to everybody, etc. it already has been said in other revews and it is indeed there.

I liked the girls tho - Lis...erm, Alice is a no-brainer for me when i see that model, and Lydia is super cute too. So i generally had fun with this VN/game/KN (yup, choices dont matter, all the better to me, playing with a WT leads to the same results just is far more annoying), played thru all the current content and even if it DOES get boring i still liked it, thus 4 stars.

Oh, and i have no issues with wife doing her thing and the MC not being an alpha or whatever, "alpha"s make me sick to be honest

In the beginning there was you and your wife. You had plenty of sex every day and everything was good.

Then some random girl becomes your squire and you HAVE to love her, because apparently the dev didn't want to bother with the possibility that you might want to stay faithful to your gorgeous wife instead. Don't worry, though, because your wife knows about this and she's actually encouraging you to do it.

Then your wife finds herself a lesbian girl toy to enjoy herself with. You have no say on the matter, after all you're too busy spending time with your squire that you were forced to love, remember? And while your wife will still have sex with you every blue moon or so, it is mostly her lesbian lover she'll be having fun with from now on. So basically you're getting cucked by a girl. Doesn't hit quite as hard as being cucked by the stereotypical shredded hyper-alpha, but it still stinks. You don't even get to have a threesome with your wife and her side chick and stick your dick in her cheeky teenage lesbian pussy, you know?

(Update v0.19: Fair enough, you do end up fucking your wife's lesb bisexual lover. Fine, I'll give it an extra star just for that. Still below average.)

So far we've established that this game basically plays out as a kinetic novel, since there are zero meaningful choices, and the female characters make some sexual decisions that the player has no control over.

But maybe you're not yet convinced that this is a bad game. Maybe you don't care about your wife nor about her nubile lesbian lover, and you only have eyes for your squire. Well, that's only because I haven't yet talked about the game's greatest flaw.

Yes, there is an aspect of this game that's even worse than being forced to watch your wife getting it on with another person. Namely, this game features some of the most mundane, uneventful, utterly forgettable dialog/story I've ever had the misfortune to read. Just line after line of eye-wateringly boring schlock. Everyone is always happy, nothing bad ever happens, every day plays out like the rest.

Shame about the renders; they're good, but they're wasted on this absolute snoozefest.

Overall, this is more of a slow and redundant visual novel that repeats itself by having every character not in one scene be told what happened while they were not present, after the MC plays through that scene. Sometimes repeating this to other people even after that. EVERYTHING is spelled out, told to us as if we had not played through it only moments before, again and again, and again...


It has decent renders, a fine plot, but after hours of gameplay, the adult content is virtually nonexistent outside of some renders of nude models who apparently have zero body hair like normal human beings would. If that doesn't matter to you, then take your time reading and re-reading the text that explains everything for each character.


I'm not personally sure why there is such a focus on BJs in this game. Half the time when any sex happens, MC chooses to pull out or is asked to do so (without a choice for the player) so she can suck him off. For having a "Pregnancy" tag, there seem to be very few opportunities for that option to conceivably occur... yeah, I punned...

The writing is dry, like others have sad. There's no real humor or excitement to this story. Whatever suspense or mystery may be hinted at is forgotten and ignored after its buildup... no payoff at all.

If you're looking for a game to fap to, skip this one. If you're looking for a bland and tiresome story, play this.

If i had to describe the game in one word it would be "Dry"

The MC is literally and figuratively a while knight which for once suits the game, unfortunately it suits it because the game has no conflict of any kind and it is very boring, in fact the only thing not predictable about the game is how uneventful it is.

Did you ever watch a movie, show or game set in medieval times about people just going about their normal day with no conflict? no, well there is a reason for that its very dull.

If the MC was not such a "nice guy" or if the women were not all perfect fantasy women it could have been be spiced up with some relationship problems or even just some normal jealously but there is not even any of that.

Very early on it becomes quite clear how the game is going to play out while not horrible it is quite dull and predictable.

Sex scenes are ok but they are just very vanilla, nothing special to see but given the era its set there was not much chance of them being anything too special anyway, which is the same for any fetishes.

Loads and loads of pointless "choices" just ignore them and click anything they do nothing.

Art quality is really good both in characters and locations and it really shows a lot of effort was put in to them, the game also has a quality built feel to it as well.

It is very long which is usually a good thing but in this game where nothing happens its not a benefit.

A Knight's Tale overview says:
'You play as a knight..' Stop. You also play as his wife, as his squire, and as his wife's servant, which gives us tons of unavoidable lesbian sex. Anyway, "playing" is too big a word, there's nothing to play - you just follow the story.
I've heard a few complaints about so-called spineless MC and I really don't know what are you talking about. Everything happens in feudal Europe when the populace took advantage of the nobility. There were also times when women ruled the world and men had essentially nothing to say. We should be grateful to the writer for softening history for the sake of contemporary gender equality. After all, the wife could "chain" her husband before each trip to the "chastity belt". Or she could get rid of him one way or another and marry a 15yo (or younger) virgin boy ... or... Okay, enough of this crap because someone who doesn't know anything about the Middle Ages might believe this nonsense.
I tried an early version and now compared to v0.17 to see if anything has changed. At first, it seemed like the (sex) adventure of a modern wealthy couple in a medieval setting. It looks like I was wrong. Today a relationship between a CEO and co-workers / family are often more "medieval" than in this novel. I don't expect too much realism from adult games but at least the characters should behave naturally in terms of who they are and where they are. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

Sorry but I don't like this game because of Lydia. I Dont want her but there is no way to reject. I have to see her and her relationship with my mc's wife. I hate that. This game hardly ever gives option and options didnt change anything.

I wanted to give this four stars. I really wanted to give this four stars because the girls are cute and the renders are really well-done and the dialogue is well written and there's a nice variety of sex scenes as the three girls all get to play with each other and with the protagonist and to be honest I couldn't care less about historical verisimilitude in a sex game.

But oh my god, it's just so nice. Everyone is so nice and gets along so nicely and are so very nice to each other and there's no conflict or difficulties to overcome or interesting decisions to make and you just end up watching these really nice people having such nice times together and being so nice to each other until it blurs together into a dull, lifeless mass of pleasantness-goo.

Even this would have been not so bad if the story had wound up two or three episodes ago, but how much longer can we drag out four characters just... being in the same place and, without any meaningful input from the player, finding different excuses to fuck?

It is clear that it is not a game, it is only a visual novel but without decisions that lead anywhere.
I'm a big fan of Triangle, in fact I'm translating it into my native language, Spanish, manually, no Google Translator or Deeple...

And I was wondering if I would translate this one, but I don't think so... I don't know how close I am to the end or not, but the fact is that I'm getting quite bored... And the thing about the woman with the little wooden penis seemed to me a huge stupidity.

I accept that another stupid thing is that someone from the medieval era likes to bathe, which in Europe, in the time of the Knights, nobody did except the Arabs, although it seems a contradiction, but I was born in Spain and I know very well what I'm talking about. But I don't see any logic in the wooden penis, it would be much more logical if it had been the knight who deflowered the girl, but if the author hasn't thought of anything more than that to get us out of the usual monotony of the bath, lake, sexual night, exchange, breakfast, dinner, lonely girls... If even the graphic scenes are repeated...

The writer doesn't seem to be able to think of anything new...

It's a nice, fun VN. If you have played the other game by the same developer - you know what to expect. I have two big problem with the game, but they are personal taste related and not related to execution.

My problems are that the game is a) not much of a game - there are very few choices and they don't seem to have much consequences; b) this time around the "virgin sees dick, turns in to a slut in a week" is lessened, but still present; c) I honestly expected some more story-related things to happen. As I've said - those are personal preferences, not actual problems with the game.

Otherwise - renders are good, the characters are well-developed, consistent and fun, there are animations (for those who care) and it's a solid game.
