Need help with the Cupboard puzzle in the hotel cellar. Using the walkthrough but the password does NOT WORK. I have tried variations of it, but no dice.

There is now a walkthrough capacitor in the help meny once you have downloaded the latest version of the game that can help you with a lot of questions you have.

Please check the walkthrough, the solution to all puzzles is listed. Most puzzles have several alternatives including that one.
You can disable all puzzles if preferred. Check your phone. apps and puzzle helper (might be in Game now)
Well then do not play the game by just following the walkthrough. Play the game by reading and understanding what is happening, check the Notes in your phone and talk to people. Check the walkthrough for ideas or solutions to specific problems
But a large majority of the walkthroughs are correct, just differing in fine details notably about losing the book and protecting yourself, but you can work out how to do this. Capacitors walkthough is more up to date but it is not complete

Still, I know it's a bit annoying to push this, but why not put those vision from hydromancy in the end game or aftermath, If player in the end does charmed and dominate the whole town.
But you are right about this would be more like another game. An interactive pornography instead of a story puzzles game.

After all please consider that this is a game primarily about mind controlling people so avoiding ever doing so is somewhat against the idea of the game!
There are some plans for a new path where you are freeing most people from initially being controlled by Davy but this is still some time away.

Both are explained in the walkthroughts (see the apprentice one for Gabby). In brief
Ellie: ask Kristin to close the bank then visit her at home. You will need the Silver Ring or Tina to free her
Gabby: somewhat complex, wait for Mom to leave for work and investigate. An opportunity will open up to charm her and Mom if you want

Not without charming her, you can stay friends but anything else requires charming her as of this release
It has been discussed the idea of a lover path but nothing is worked out
