Ren'Py - Completed - A Town Uncovered [v1.04B] [GeeSeki]

It’s hard to tell how good this game actually is? It’s like watching a metamorphosis take place in slown down time. I don’t know what the true form is, because I’ve been looking at the same stage of transformation for so long.


Is the story good? Well, it has barely gotten started! I could swear we’re basiclaly at the same place we were like 2 years ago with the story.

Is the art good? Well A LOT OF ART ASSETS ARENT EVEN IN THE GAME so I dunno!

The game is...interesting. What “game” there is, Very unique.

The writing is really quirky, a bit witty, heartfelt and managed to get a few smirks. The new writer isn’t as good and goes a bit overboard with trying to be cool. The characters are all interesting in that everybody is fucking insane and a hot mess. This guy seems to have some messed up fetishes. There’s a lot of drama and abuse and depression. Very few porn games are like this. A huge selling point for the game.


The art is or maybe technically not at professional levels? But the art style is quirky and I honestly like it a lot. The designs are all actually really good with the girls pretty much all being sexy asf maybe the main selling point even more so than other games. It could use a bit of polishing here and there? But I love it honestly.

The sex scenes are...interesting. Unlike summertime saga and other games, they appear to be “movies” they play completely. I wish they did it more like summertime saga where it loops until you tell it to stop if move forward. The sex scenes aren’t that numerous but they feel nice and earned.


The actual story is...strange? Like I said, it barely began.

The gameplay is...interesting you have to build skill...thresholds? And for some reason you have a chance to fail? And it’s unclear when you get to use the skills? It’s kinda bizarre? It could be more straightforward but I like how you use skills in different conversations. You could actually use it more.


It’s mostly an enjoyable game but the development is slow, some of the decisions are strange, and a couple things are sloppy.

I advise you to do the current completed storylines, and then just check in on this game...once every 6 months? Once a year? So that some actual progress is made? It’s not “bad” it’s just...strange.


Oh yeah. Bugs. And lack of save compatibility

It used to be better but now all new scenes are sketches... Which is really sad because I loved the original art style and this new one is just disappointing compared to the original. The story is alright and the characters are great

One of my initial favorite games now on life support in terms of the content releases.

For new players, who haven't waited through horrible update consistency, where we get almost nothing every half a year, this is a great game to play through once (As the content is still decent, enough for multiple hours), but horrible to wait for updates.

Rating:
Art - 3.5/5, the simplistic arttyle is pretty good, but not having enough detail can look rather bad in certain scenes, and for the characters the art can be slightly off-putting during sex (Or I might've got tired of the art after playing this game through multiple times with each update). Though better than avg imho.

Story- 2/5, this isn't for the dialogue, which is generally rather well written, but rather the progression of the story and its current state. The whole "alt world" thing isn't progressing in any way for over 2 years of updates, that it's pretty much like cut out. While each character has specific special events that make them go through changes before accepting the MC, and that's the strongest part of the story here, but the big storyline is a mess, while the side/char specific stories are pretty good.

Potential 1/5, I don't think that this game will becoming anything more than it is currently. As a first timer, I can say that it's a pretty decent wank, but only in case you enjoy the art. But even in that sense there simply aren't enough sex scenes for the characters that haven't had recent updates (Mother and sis don't have anywhere close to what Allaway has).

Dialogue 2.5/5, I don't think it was bad, some of the scenes were rather well written, while some others didn't seem to make sense to me.

Rather than the current state of the game, what ruins things for me is the lost potential of this game, due to the messed up main story, inconsistent updates and simply pushing out things that are clearly nowhere ready for consumption just to have "something out there". That's why I will give it a 2/5 score instead of a 2.5/5(avg), As other than the art and some story decisions which were well done, this is pretty average.

Just finished playing the game and it had some of the best writing/ dialogue I’ve seen in a long time. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a video game in this genre. The art was kinda weird to get used to but after some time it was normal to me and I had some problems with the head teacher storyline. Apart from that, this game was brilliant

The game can easily be a 5 star game the art style is very unique and the characters are all unique and cool would love to see h scenes for side characters the story is a little wocky but no one plays for the story. But the game is really the best because of the characters, animations are simple but get the job done. Biggest complaints are the unfinished assets which will be fixed and the lack of a gallery which hopefully will be implemented. Game has huge potential and amazing unique art give it a play but be in for a grind and getting lost donated fo the creator I’d apply to help improve the game

Gets worse and worse with every new update. Gee really needs to get a programmer who knows what they're doing (in addition to rectifying all the unfinished scenes/assets). Really wanting to see this game improve.

Honestly had an enjoyable time with what I've seen. The artwork is minimal but still enjoyable. And the animation is rudimentary at best.

But I really thought the guy put a lot of thought into the story and the situations for the scenes were hot.

Started really good, if a bit buggy until I got shoved into an hour-long k-hole of pointless storyline that NO ONE CARES ABOUT, complete with unfinished images and references from characters that assume you're further along in their stories before you get trapped in this bullshit. Went from a 5 star to a 2 faster than blinking.

EDIT: I'm past the pointless bullshit and the game is good again, thank fucking god. I felt bad for leaving a 2 star review, so it's back up to five. For now.

I am not really pleased with this game. I starts off kind of cool but after the first week it plummets you into a 1 day hell where you almost get executed. Why is there no forshadowing to let you know an issue may be comming up and then only give you 1 day to talk to everyone in an alternate dimension that tells you nothing, then you get tranqed' and then executed?? Then just to go back to your dimension to score points then have conversations with only losing scenerios?? It is poor story telling. I digressed and continued on only to then be hit with sketch pad sceenes?? The sceenes and story line keep flip flopping from positive to negative with no reason. It is pure madness.. I may have enjoyed it if it was not such poor story telling, then hit me with scribble graphics?? Sorry Developer, I wanted to like it but just couldn't for the above reasons.. Deleted.....

Update: Reducing to 2 stars, the issues mentioned below remained and now with save issues also forcing restarts... there is so much grind and wasted time trying to figure out if you've seen everything and the plot had already been all over the place. There's 5 star potential in this game, the art does grow, but it needs to take a page from some easier to play/easier to track games and add either a superior walkthrough, a gallery, or an objective tracker for images. It's a game not a job.

The minimalist art style comes out (much) better than you'd think, give it a try before you judge that. The plot has some interesting ideas. There's a fourth star in here it's just not there yet for a few major flaws.
First, and I find it the big one because it makes the game repetitive to the point of detracting from the fun, it lacks a checklist, gallery, or more detailed guide to track what's been seen and hasn't. The game is too free form and open world for that, it makes the player waste A Lot of time repeating what's already been done while looking for new scenes or it's many interesting and often sexy easter eggs. I cannot emphasize how much grind and wasted time you have while trying to uncover something new. Until this gets fixed, I have to cap this game at 3 stars tops.
Secondly, it's x-ray setting, which is decently done, seemed to have to be flipped at only one location in game and decided on before hand and wasn't available as an in-scene option.
On the pro's though it's got a bare bones in game walkthrough, beautiful woman of several body types and races in a unique style, cheats available, quite a bit of nude and sexual content, and it's unique thematically.
Oh and hopefully some scenes with that principal or one of the redheads get added!

I honestly was not expecting much out of this one - the art in the preview pics isn't great and the story just sounded silly, but after playing it, I'm quite impressed. The writing is excellent, there are very few typos or grammatical errors, and while all the girls seem to have the same facial structure, the art grows on you after a while.

I initially expected a 2-3 star game, but I'll happily give this one 4.5 stars after having played it - my only issue is with all the girls looking the same, and the simplistic "construction paper" art style - if the artist were to add more shading or something, this would be an absolute 5-star game.

I love the art style, and there are some wonderful moments in the game, but lately the story has just been one miserable experience after another. You shouldn't play the game unless you have some sort of NTR or cuckold fetish because that stuff suddenly springs up everywhere without warning.

The grind is excessive. I spent several in-game weeks doing nothing but trying to raise stats and earn money in order be allowed to advance the story. There are some significant bugs, which cause you to miss scenes and will even prevent one of the character plotlines from advancing. I've also had the same person appearing simultaneously in different locations, which was quite confusing.

BORING.
Each character only has a single mission path, the dozens of dialogues given only embellishment, every choice lead to the same result. You can answer a question with "fuck off" or "love you" and in the next dialogue the character will act exactly the same way.
Some characters have no emotional control, you can respond politely and all they do is yell at the MC.
In the absence of a better adjective I classify this visual novel as boring.

Edit: that forced NTR kill me, example: in every chance I said "gtfo Effie", but the 'one path story' ignored me and make my sister meet Effie because she is my friend, but hey: you are not my friend f**** bitch!

Good story and art, but truly awful management of the project. Not worthy put any single penny on it to support, I don't recommend anyone wasting their money is this project. Avoid for your own sake. Gesseki has management and working schedule problem, it is know for not deliver what his promises in his update many times. Just don't waste your time and money, support other good project out there that have transparency and a good management.

I've played this game since last year, and in the last update (0.23), this game simply turned NTR, something that was not defined in the developer's initial concept. ignoring the bad art and the inconsistency in the story with several choices that do not result in any change, the biggest reason that led me to write this review (with horrible English), was the disappointment of adding something that was not warned from the beginning. This game killed my erection with a shotgun.

I hate giving bad reviews but fuck it this game is a fucking mess. Once upon a time "A Town Uncovered" was once a promising and new exciting game but as time went on mistakes were made and the classic free pass excuses began to fall on mute ears. I'm not heartless the art was unique and fun that set this game apart from the generic clone games and there was a decent story at one point, the best was easily the relationship between the brother and sister the dialog itself was smart clever and witty. Unfortunately at some point a monkey wrench was thrown causing the story to go off its hinges and become a ClusterFuck of topsy turvy proportions and not the cool kind like Game of Thrones but Freddy got Fingered retarded (I'd say around the drowning Opposite/alternative Dimension)

However the main issue was the grind when you first start out, I believe like everyone else your full of optimism and excitement. A brand new world to explore and a game full of potential, lets see what adventure awaits us. Well you would see some scattered nudity here, some there so at first it was encouraging, there at least was the allure of well surely there's something here, I mean there's gotta be, so you play and you wait You get the coffee shop girl early but then there was that bug that crashed the game until the patch came.

Play for a bit more, something something inconsequential occurred, and this formula of rinse and repeat continued until it Eventually dawns on you NOTHING FUCKING HAPPENS!

The GODDAMN writing was on the fucking wall! If nothing fucking happens in 5 mins of playing then don't expect shit to magically get better, there was build up tons of it so much so that the promise of more to come artistic bs surely the reward for being fucking patient would have a great payout to compensate all our time, The characters you want to bang never come to fruition, you wait eons to bang the Mom Still waiting on the Fucking Principle the huge epic moment with the Sister fizz's to nothingness all that grinding, all the build up wasted nothing more than an utter disappointment The Whole point of the Game falls into Utter Obscurity. A tree falling in an empty forest makes more excitement than this! Sadly this game is a dud.

Just like every blasted fool on here I gave it it shot, Kept an open mind, decent art, and story (at first) but the more time went by the story progressivly got worse with what little updates came our way as time went on and THERE ARE VIRTUALLY NO FUCKING SEX SCENES 2-3 tops the only saving fucking grace was the beach mini game that's it! Its only sad redemption very repetitive the only solid nudity guaranteed don't get too excited pretty much just handjobs the more progression story wise. Hell if the creator just did the beach scene and only that made it entirely its own thing as a separate game and if you based that solely on its merits and compared that to the whole of whatever the hell THIS ShitShow dumpster fire of a game has become The beach game would always win hands down.

No more Fucking excuses for this or any other Sexless games that follow suit. Story Build Up is one thing but seriously WTF cut the bullshit 1-2 years all you have is 2-3 sex scenes Tops! Get the Fuck Outta Here with that weakass Milking your fans BullShit

At this point I'm already checked out , the author stated some new update "Comming Soon" like all the other con artist they all say that line, Just don't expect everything to magically get better and make a 180. I held out as long as possible, to give the game the benefit of the doubt, and in the end all I'm left with is regret and Blue Balls.

This is by far my favorite eroge. I really like the story, the characters, the aesthetic, pretty much everything, though it does have some bugs that can be avoided by using the computer "stuck?" program, it's annoying that you have to skip something because it bugged out.

Overall i highly recommend this game to all!
