I'm working on a short visual novel. You'll recognize the content by the following screenshot.
Converting the GIFs to a format RenPY could play was a royal pain as it doesn' t accept GIFs or animated WEBPs, they needed to be converted to MP4s, then had a silent sound track added (gotta have sound or they won't play), then converted to WEBM and then I had to figure out how to get them to play in the background. Lotsa fun!
The time consuming part is adding in the text after spell checking and grammer checking it all. Halfway done now. interbladecard has posted a lot in here! I went back to the very first part of this and grabbed all the images, converted them to WEBPs except GIFs (did I mention they were a pain?), grabbed all the text etc...

Oh, and if that last screenshot seems low quality, it's due to stretching a 400 pixel wide GIF onto a 1920 wide screen. Doesn't look to bad considering how small it was originally. And it is animated of course.
it's taken me two full days to do half of it so far, but much of that time was consumed figuring out how to display animated GIFs, convert them etc. I'm using two online grammar checkers (as well as my own checks)... one of which likes to complain about "offensive words". One time it corrected the spelling of "masterbation" and then after I accepted the spelling correction, it warned me about the word being offensive. LMAO... it also warned me about the word "whore" being offensive even though it is not a slang word. Fun times. But I find this story much more enjoyable as a visual novel.

Well, several days and 1230 lines of code (so far, more to come) and I have the game finished. Just need to polish it a little and I'll post a link. Not sure where to upload it yet. The images (still 1080P) and videos are only around 30megs after I converted them all to WEBP and WEBMs (no quality loss).
That was more work than expected, mostly just entering in the text dialog and testing it for errors.
