Chat, it's actually real! The Overhaul Update is finally here!

After literal months of bashing our heads against the wall, fighting with the engine, optimizing, wading through old code, and then real life sickness, we made it. As the name suggests, it brings not only the first reworked location, but also a brand-new random event system, collectable trophies, tons of new interactions, post-route content for existing characters, and a ton of secrets for you to find!

Your brand-new room!

As you probably guessed, MC's room is the star of today's show. We spent an enormous amount of time making sure that it’s memorable every time you end up in your living quarters, or at the very least somewhat entertaining.

First and foremost, Clyde is now a proper interactive character that will appear in the bedroom at specific times of day. You will catch him doing chores, relaxing, or straight up jorking it, and by "it", well... let's just say, his peanits. Each of the possible Clyde spawn points will be accompanied by multiple unique interactions, so there will always be a reason to talk to your buddy whenever your paths cross.

Our goal was to create an environment in which something is always going on. Characters will stop by, packages will occasionally arrive at your doorsteps, random events will trigger new and unique interactions, collectable items will appear on your shelves, and so much more. As the game continues to grow, we will continue to expand the list of potential events in your room, including the option to invite people over!

Random events!

Ever since we released the very first version of our game, one thing was glaringly obvious - it felt empty. Nothing ever happened at the locations you visited outside of predetermined story events, which is unacceptable by our personal standards. This update aims to finally put an end to monotonous environments by introducing a whole new event system! For now, it's limited to MC's room, but we will be slowly expanding it to the remaining locations alongside their overhaul releases.

From now on, events will be able to trigger at random times in your room. It could be a simple interaction, a whole new scene, or post-route content for existing characters. And you better believe that content includes unique h-scenes! As you progress through the game, the list of events will be expanded by introducing new interactions with your romantic partners. Sonya might surprise you with a late-night visit, Kamilah could appear with an unexpected inspection, and Reina... well, she'll do what she does best.

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled as your explore your new room, because some of the events could be less obvious than the others.

Collectable trophies!

You asked for it, and we delivered. In this update we’ve implemented a new Trophy system that will allow you to collect special rewards for completing each major storyline. For now, the system is still rather limited, but later on you will be able to customize your living quarters with the gifts you receive from romantic partners.

Apart from looking nice on your shelf, trophies will act as interactive items, each with their own dialogue line, or sometimes a whole scene! Due to time constraints we haven't gotten a chance to fully flesh out the system just yet, but you'll see it used a lot as we release more updates.

4.png
More spicy content!

Obviously, we haven't forgotten about the most important part of our game - the spice! This update further expands the selection of savory content by implementing more post-route scenes for a number of fan favorites. Girls will visit your room, contact you, or otherwise make their presence known in their own unique ways. Make sure to stay vigilant, because there are quite a few events that could trigger only during specific times of day.

The only condition to access new content is to complete their specific stories. Other than that - just play the game as you usually do, and things will happen naturally. And just like the rest, this is only the start. We’re already hard at work expanding the scene selection to coincide with other upcoming overhaul releases.

Why did it take so long?

This part of the post is mostly technical talk for those who are interested.

From the moment we took on this overhaul, we knew that it would be a massive pain in the butt. A lot of in-game's content is directly tied to, triggered by, or otherwise connected to the MC's room in some way. That means that while updating the room itself, we also had to refactor all of the existing code to accommodate for the new sprite and event system, making sure that they didn’t overlap, interfere with each other, or cause progression-breaking bugs. To the surprise of no one, it did all of the above, so we had to manually go through every trigger and update it by hand. Long story short, we had to refactor 65% of the existing code. The work on this overhaul started all the way back in summer, and it took us up until today to actually finish it for this reason alone. On the bright side, all of the future overhauls will take a fraction of the time this one did since refactoring only needed to be done once for each route to be compatible with the new systems.

Also, something that not many of you might notice, but we’ve implemented a very unusual (for visual novels) lighting system for MC's room that will later be used for all of the overhauled locations. Basically, every background has a hidden colormap layer for all of the interactive sprites on the screen, making them seamlessly fit into environment no matter the lighting conditions by adjusting their shading according to aforementioned colormap. This allows us to use the same sprites (for example, Clyde's sprite) both during the day and at night without the need to create separate 2D assets for different times of day. This approach allowed us to drastically cut the amount of assets we needed to produce, which in turn makes the update much smaller in size than it could've otherwise been.

Optimization as a whole was a big part of our focus. It might sound silly, but even our seemingly non-demanding game requires a lot of additional effort to ensure it'll continue to run on older Android devices. At some point during the development, rendering a simple scene in MC's room took as much resources as Photoshop would, which is obviously a problem, so we had to take few additional weeks just to polish the code and layering system. The end-result was definitely worth it, cutting the hardware demand by something crazy like like 80%. If you notice a significant change in how quickly scenes load in this version, please let us know!

Also, this is the biggest release post I have ever written. Crazy stuff.

Thank you!

Your support helps sustain not only this project, but also all of us working on it. And with that support, we’re slowly moving closer to achieving our long-term plans. While our team is scattered across the world, having to take refuge from war in our home country, working on this game allows us to remain positive and stay focused on something we truly enjoy creating. Thank you for being part of this journey with us!

i never quite understood why on threads where the creator is present, there's no piracy...
this is a piracy forum.
imagine every single creator made an account here and infested their own threads. we'd have nothing.
instead of letting creators shill their own product here, ban them and let us pirate their content in peace.

I think it has less to do with the presence of the developer and more with the dev cycle. It takes ~half month for an update to go from the $5 tier to the free one; that is not a lot of time, so people who'd subscribe just to leak it here won't bother. And people who subscribe to pricier tiers generally do it because they want to support the dev, so they're less likely to leak it.

Any dev coming here is fully aware this is a piracy forum. And they do it knowing it's good for both sides:
  • For the devs, a pirate is someone showing interest on your game, just not enough to pay for it. It's a good market to advertise to. Pirates are also more likely to raise useful criticism than subscribers, for subbers it's all good.
  • And for the pirates: you can interact with the dev, show your take on the game, get previews, all of that. Following the development of a game is fun too, you know.
Banning developers would harm both sides. And no, if every creator made an account here, things wouldn't change that much. (For some games I predict piracy would increase.)

I also don't rule out a lot of devs were "raised" in those forums. As in: they started playing pirated games, then eventually decided to make their own games.

idk guess i'm just a bitter cynical guy
i *PERSONALLY* don't care for any of that. i come here to pirate content, not interact with a dev who will never give a shit about what i have to say anyway
so it's a huge miss in my opinion to come in here and see not a single pirated build, and instead just find discussions with the dev about their game.
this is not what this forum is for. this forum is for pirating games and new builds, whether or not they come out within a month.
you want to discuss the game and chat with the dev? go to their discord server (just pay 20$ plz! <3 <3 <3)

but hey, that's just me.

Again, I do not think the reason is the presence of the dev here.

To prove it, just look at threads of other games with dev presence. Goodbye Eternity, Love and Sex: Second Base, both devs are always there, and yet you still see pirate builds just fine.

Instead what I think that happens is that, for people leaking pirate builds into this forum, games like Academy34 are low priority. Unlike the rest of us they still need to subscribe to the games they'll be sharing, but those people still have a limited budget - subscribing to game A to share it to pirates means you can't do it with game B, and vice versa.

If you would like the patron builds shared earlier, you are welcome to pay to be a patron and share them with everyone.

The quote at the bottom of every page (emphasis mine) says "F95zone is an adult community where you can find tons of great adult games and comics, make new friends, participate in active discussions and more!" The rules for the content subforums in the General Rules post say "All discussions in these threads should be kept on-topic and be about the game/content/creator/etc."

Referring back to earlier comments: most of the games whose threads I follow on here have had developers participating in the discussion. It may not be their preferred way to get bug reports and suggestions, but often they're listening.

Mercy isn't even down to a single lewd act...

Should probably compile how far each route has gone and at least bring them all to a single sex scene first. Cuz some routes are hella long compared to others atm.
