Acquiring Daz Assets

Hello everyone

I am not sure if this is the best location , or in General Discussion ...

I am looking to dabble with DAZ Studio / Blender and so far DAZ with the Gallery and content looks good, especially the Genesis 8 Male and Female...

For me going with DAZ is that the available assets to work with that others have created is a big positive ..

I think Blender does almost everything though .... at least for rendering scenes once you have the assets setup.

I have see the post on this forums , which covers my question about the interactive license ,not being required for any rendering for Ren'py Visual Novels .. etc.

The few questions i do have are ....
  1. If i get DAZ assets from else where , then I do not own a content license for said assets (not purchased from DAZ) and in theory I could be sued / fined for copyright breach
  2. If I want to modify the asset in anyway from its original state , then how does the licensing work?
    • I apply a transform and change the mesh drastically, such as body morphs .
    • I apply different textures
    • Example Genesis 8 Female , with my own created clothes, GNU skin textures , download (paid or not paid) hair ..

Regards

As long as the product is images only, like a visual novel, you do not need a license to use the products.

Once it becomes 3d (like a character that can move around the screen) it becomes a grayer area and you open yourself up to copyright infringement

As for the second part, modify away, as long as you follow the 'image only' rule.

As carnalcardinal said, as long as you're producing 2D images, you can do pretty much anything you want in terms of modifying the originals. (Assuming you're not then trying to sell them - there you run into the "derivative work" issue.)

But in answer to your #1: Yes. Odds aren't high, but yes.
