VN - Unity - Abandoned - Adventure Deviant [Prologue] [EleToki Games]

    Technical:
I like that the devs have decided to use Unity instead of Renpy. Allows for a much smoother experience, although I wish they'd implement things like skipping dialogue rolling and undoing dialogue.
I ran the game on Linux Mint with Wine 7.x. While it ran smoothly, tabbing out and switching from fullscreen to windowed seemed to partially break the game (albeit it was still playable). These problems may not be present in the native Windows version.

    Design:

Really good character sprites that show promise here. While the *only* truly NSFW scene in the game so far (Ice Queen pre-dickshaming) was not that satisfying or well-drawn, I think the artstyle shows a lot of promise.
The dialogue feels in-character, but drags on for way too long lots of the time. I wish they cut it down a bit.
What kinda bothers me is there's zero gameplay or choices so far. It's a completely linear visual novel. But I guess this can be excused since it's only a "prologue."

(keep in mind i'm rating the prologue here, so take it with a grain of salt - I'm trying to project my rating to how I think it'll end up. tldr at the end)

    Story
The story feels a little bit shaky, but I suppose it's fine for a first release - you start off with Pep But, as he gets his dark magic interrupted by PB's seemingly endless problems with the Candy Kingdom. Upon looking further into it, he realises that PB has way too much going on and that she needs to relax a little. Naturally, he gets Finn to try and win her affection. His first crack at this involves him meeting the Ice Queen, and she says she'll stop expanding her territory if he shows her a good time. Finn then needs to talk to Magic Man and consumes some suspicious beans in order to "expand his package".

The switch to Finn's perspective after Peppermint Butler getting annoyed at PB felt a bit strange and rushed, I feel like some more dialogue wouldn't hurt there. Finn deciding to try and grope PB also felt a bit out of place to me for some reason, though I'm not exactly sure why - it IS a porn game, after all.
Everything else felt like it really adhered to the AT show, especially the dialogue. 9/10

    Art style

Initially, I thought I was going to hate this art. The thumbnail reminded me of those shitty hentai flash games for some reason, and PB looked so lifeless. But it's completely different when playing the game - the colors and shading all appeals to the traditional AT art style, but allows for an extra level of expression with this 3D touch. The characters pop out and have a really nice contrast with the background images, and they all feel so full of expression ('cept PB, but she's got a lot on her plate so I'm guessing that was intentional), so I LOVE the artwork. 10/10

    Experience & Performance

The game works like you'd expect; there's autosaves, you can fullscreen and there's even a screenshot button, so it should be fine for most. But there's some features that I'm used to from Ren'py games and aren't implemented that seriously break my immersion, e.g. how pressing space just goes to the next line instead of finishing the current one, no rollback, can't change text speed etc. There's more I'd complain about, but I've already mentioned some of it and I don't feel like it should affect the review.

There's also not much gameplay atm, since there aren't any choices. Oh - having the groping during the massage be a choice would probably be a good idea, and you could litter some around other dialogue places too. You don't need to embed a whole strategy game into it, but having some choices (even if they only change the next two lines) would better the experience and allow for more immersion.

imo they shoulda used Ren'py. 6/10

    Quality of English & Speech

Not much to say. Everything's grammatically correct, and nothing feels like ESL. There are some lines from F&J that sound a bit too... smart for them, but that's about it. Perfect otherwise. 10/10

    Conclusion

It's a porn game, it's about Adventure Time. If that sounds good to you, go ahead and play it! The art is amazing and the speech feels accurate, I just wish the dev used Ren'py. Can't wait for the full release. 9/10
