I agree, between the two patreons I'm supporting [both being AndehP with AfterClass and Hyao with LustfulDesires] its utterly baffling how absolutely slow andeh really is.
*Andeh is working on a visual novel.
*Hyao is working on an rpg in renpy.
*All andeh has to do is literally write and do basic renpy shit
*hyao has to do a fuckton of coding whether its rpg mechanics related, multiple choices and their outcomes, whether you are male or female and etc.
Yet despite this andeh has had multiple vacations and periods of time where he "takes a break" or random sudden incidences [most involving his health] that force him to stop doing any writing, meanwhile hyao has at the very least kept a consistent schedule of updates after updates, and does little complaining about it or sudden breaks. Meanwhile andeh is typically doing his raids in ffxiv [to which hyao also plays] but barely gets his shit done unlike hyao

Let's be real, Hyao is sort like Paragon in the space, very few indie porn game dev I know has the diligence Hyao has.
- He's well respected by his peers, he's good at networking, I heard he's also very helpful to other devs
- When encounter hardships (Like when ZoroJ left), he actively trying to work things out
- He's very pro-audience, he's monetisation is very fair, no pay-walled exclusives, heck he even put in-game cheats for free which almost all other devs charge high tier money for
- Not to mention the degree of productivity like you said
- I also can't recall him complain about his personal life nor accident that require him to stop
The speed of After Class is that of a Hobbyist doing something as a hobby and others support (financially) cuz they like what his doing, NOT a professional who charge monthly for the product.
Wow, I forgot this game existed and wanted to pick up to replay and progress further, but it seems it would've been just a replay because barely anything was added, I feel bad for the backers.
should not charge for a product if you going to take forever to do updates thats like getting paid for a job and not doing it. and you should know yourself pretty well. like ive myself thought many times to make visual novels. and have worked towards some (not post anywhere but like worked on my own) but i also know myself and know i procrastate a lot, i get distracted, i get stumped and cant go anywhere so i dont ask for support cause i cant work easily towards it.
so if someone is similar they shouldnt do monthly payments if they cant show updates and the work theyre putting in. like im all for people who actively and like mainly focus on updates to do monthly payments for stuff cause then you show you are doing the work and people want to support that. but if you arent working thats annoying and disrespectful to those supporting you.
I kind of thought about that myself a few times. I get distracted, loose interest and procrastinate easily. When I do something for free I mindfully do it as a hobby and wanna have fun doing it. As soon as money comes into play (and oh boy does a monthly pay do that) then for me it stops being a hobby. Money, linked to products or services, establishes obligations and hobbies becomes businesses. Money tends to sour everything and everyone if something goes wrong somehow.

Any of those other routes have more lore on Herbert(preferably not lars) since I'm bored and waiting for gil. #1 diehard Gil fan I'd prefer not to read any of the others until gil finale, but I might be dead before that happens.
We will have cloning tech and people on mars before that happens so don't worry.
Also yeah I'm getting really tired of Lars too especially after his last episode. If andrew didn't unironically seem to be squeezing in torahiko fanfiction into the route I'd check out entirely.

That's the problem, This dev "Should" not do it this way, but He "Can" and indeed is doing (Like many other Patreon projects).
That's the most exploitative area of Patreon, It blurs the boundary betweed "Charge for a product"(you expect some sort of return) and "Donation" (you don't expect anything).
That's why he's not generating good-wills. So in the event when he really suffer hardrship, people will not stick around (like they would with Hyao).
You reap what you sow (in the long term).
