100 Subdivisions. I've thought about the hair. The way I did this I would probably need to have the hair on it's own mesh. Also thought about just doing the character bald, and adding the hair later.
I asked because i had same test, but i use 3dsmax. I like your result, seem so natural.
For the hair i use photoshop to do a separation, then i remove it from base image, but only frontal hairs( the hair's covering face).
I add this new image as new mesh, and manually subdividing it for better movement's i need,( bangs, rear hairs, braid, etc..).
Then i clone this mesh, assign transparent black material, and put it little under "hair mesh", with little offset. This for having shadow effect.
Also i use skinmesh with bone system to do movement for hair and body.
Don't know if blender use same name as 3dsmax, i use it only as conversion tool.

Daz Studio does Canvas renders that are the hair by themselves. I'm experimenting with the hair being a separate mesh right meow.

KREA AI just released its new Enhancer. This was just a quick test of a comic I made months ago. If I were to really do this, I'd do some post work, and probably just add speech bubbles after the enhance. For comparison sake, I also have one of the source images.
