AI Voice Cloning

So I came across an interesting article about AI voice cloning and a link to a github project. This got me thinking about how few games here are voiced and the possibility of this (or tools like it) being used to clone voices for the various R34 games, or any games in general. Didn't see a topic about it or anything similar here and though it might be something game devs would be interested in.

I haven't tried using it yet so i can't say how good it is or how easy / hard it is to train the AI. There are over 6700 forks, so maybe one of those is better.

I think having a real voice actor(s) for original content is be better, but for R34 games this could really up the immersion factor.

I guess if we're going to work AI imaging and AI generated imagery into the fold, why not cloned or generated voices? I don't think they'll ever really be able to replicate human emotion in the voice but who knows. you're probably right that something is better than nothing. i'm going to check this out because i'm really curious.

There's few fully voiced games because it's really hard to self insert into a character when it have a voice that totally don't match yours. Unlike the body, that you in fact rarely see, the voice will be heard way to much for self insertion to works. This while having everyone voiced except the MC is relatively lame.
To this you've to add the fact that you can't use custom names (something liked on the scene) if the game is voiced, and can't incest patch without having to double many voiced lines.
And finally, there's the fact that more than half of the players will not be native speakers. For most of them it will be easier to understand what is wrote than what is said. Having voices would then distract their attention when trying to translate what they read, and end being an annoyance more than anything else.

Not that voicing is necessarily a bad thing, but there's enough "cons" for it to not worth the effort (and cost) unless you really really want it.

This. Text can be more convenient for players - some players will read text slowly, some faster. Some can pause it to reread it, or even search for a translation to their native language. Also, the voice might not match player's expectation for the character and it could even ruin the game for them. And finally some players play completely without sound. Voice could be a nice option, but the text is necessary and often sufficient.

Of course, in the future, the AI might be good enough to make voicing realistic and effortless.
