Ren'Py - AIRevolution [v0.3.4] [Akaime]

This review is based on ~4 hours of gameplay for the v0.3.3 release.

Outside of the character models, everything felt very average. I suspect there's still a fair amount of content for me to see, and some of these scores could be raised if the more recent content has improved, but based on what I've seen so far I suspect it's more of the same.

Let's start with the game's strength...

    Art/Animations: 5/5

As the screenshots show, there are a lot of varied women depicted in this game. If you've got a style/flavor, there's probably a girl for it. Though, for me, there every girl would be improved if their bust size was reduced by one cup. Most of the girls here are at the very upper limit of what I find attractive, and the rest are still well above average. There's even a scene where one of the girls who's a solid D cup is complaining to the MC about how small her breasts are and how she knows they're not attractive. Like. What? Drop her to an A, or at most a B, if you're going to use that trope.

The animations are above average, but not amazing. The loops were a little short, though future scenes may be longer. I nearly marked this section as a 4/5 but the sheer creativity and diversity of women in this game made me want to keep it a 5/5.

The characters sometimes surprised me with how authentic they reacted to certain dialogue (with respect to body language), which was a nice surprise as well.

    Story: 2.5/5

The story is... serviceable. There were moments when I laughed out loud. The girls do have personalities, but they're only a step or two above one dimensional characters. Quite tropey, but the dev makes it tolerable via comedy. Your hangouts/dates with the girls are as unique as their themes/flavors, so that was a good plus.

You'll see weird or contradictory things occur fairly regularly. Extremely minor spoiler example: One of the girls, who is seen as a social outcast, so much so that the MC, who isn't popular himself, didn't want to hang out with her, asks one of the popular, snobby, school bullies out (no NTR, non-sexual, plot driven reasons). The snobby, popular bully accepts without reservation. When she no longer became a social outcast? I haven't a clue. Another Extremely minor spoiler example: The MC suspected one of his classmates was a 'combat AI'. The MC knows this girl is second in command to the antagonist, and thinks he's figured out her secret. So what does he do? He confronts her, then when she wants to speak to him alone about it, he follows her. Yeah, great idea, lets follow the combat droid of your enemy to a secluded place as the two of you discuss how you figured out one of their secrets. Look at the game's main picture, it's theme is an "AI Revolution", but it's not taking itself seriously.

Speaking of the game not taking itself seriously, the MC gains a fair amount of proficiency with wielding a katana via two morning practice sessions. Just give him a kendo background and have that interaction be focused on how that LI can help him improve upon what he already has. There's so many easy ways to fix these plot issues, I'm struggling to understand how the dev fell into these plot holes in the first place.

Conversations are generally supercharged and are narrated in as few words as possible. That scene where the outcast girl asks the popular bully and he accepts? Around 100 words... For context, that's a little less than half a page for most novels. Sure, I get it, a picture is worth a thousand words, you get to see how these characters look and their environment, so that'd count as narrative content as well. Still, 100 words to bridge the social gap between someone who is such an outcast that the loser (at the start of the game - at least) MC didn't even want to hang out with her and the snobby popular bully? By the time you realize she's asking him out the scene is over. While that scene might be particularly bad, the others have similar issues.

There are a few spelling errors, grammatical errors (I can't imagine the Dev employed a professional proof reader as one of the changelogs claims) scattered throughout. The narration and character dialogue is 110% popcorn fiction, there's nothing complex about it at all.

    Sound: 2.5/5

Like the story, it's serviceable. Simple, short songs on loop in the background, occasionally an action has sound, lewd sounds, etc. All the standard stuff. Nothing outstanding, no essentials missing. Average.

    Game Mechanics: 2/5

The sandbox style adds nothing but a chore. You'll click around a lot for no other reason to move the story along. Perhaps there's more planned, but as of now, this should have been a VN where your character is on rails. You'd lose nothing and save time trying to figure out where you need to be at what time of day to move the plot along.

All but a small handful of choices are fake as well. The most they'll show you is a slightly different scenario that still finishes the same way.

I took a half star off because you don't even get shown the days of the week, meaning you can go to school 7 days a week. Even the pointless sandbox games I'm use to differentiate between weekdays and weekends.

    Final verdict: 3/5

This game shows promise. There's a decent skeleton here, it wouldn't be difficult to add in more narration, fix the spelling/grammatical errors, and make use of the sandbox mode or just make it a linear VN. Do that, spice up the audio a little, and polish the plot to where it takes itself seriously and I think it could reach 4/5 stars.

Yes, I only rated it 3 stars.... but hear me out.

AIRevolution is a good game. But only 'good'. It does some things fantastically, but does other things in a very flawed way. Things that hurt the experience for me. But even with these flaws, you can feel the love put into this game.

Graphically, this game is one of the best, especially being Koikatsu assets. The rendering is very top-notch, the environments are beautiful (but very empty feeling) and all of the ladies are very sexy without being over-the-top anime hentai BS. The parts of the game that are animated are animated very well, even if the animations are not looped well. The Pron is strong here.

Game story concept, it is very interesting with some well thought out lore points... but the pacing... THE STORY.

I half expect the MC and his waifus to start breaking out mystical powers with world-ending abilities before long and the antagonist to join the MC in fucking God or something before this story ends. Or... could just win with the power of dick. Who knows?

Gameplay wise, the game also leaves something to be desired. The game includes a hint system that is sometimes misleading. Dialogue trees also sometimes include RNG. Don't worry if you choose poorly however as it seems most events will end the same way regardless of what choice you make. The difference in dialogue choices tend to take you on different paths to show some funny things or sexy things. Most of the grind in the game is just the 'time of day' juggle that these 'sandbox' games tend to have.

    tips for gameplay:
-If you decide to do something and the MC gets smacked around for it or fails spectacularly at something, try save scumming. It may have been an RNG event(example: taking a swing at the guy in the alleyway during prologue). Other times, just might have been the wrong choice...(example: the scene that results from getting caught in the girl's shower)
-Pay attention to the sound that plays when choosing a dialogue option. If you are in a position where choice matters, you'll hear a more 'cheerful' tone than usual to tell you that you chose the optimal choice(example: the scene that results from getting caught in the girl's shower). The most important decision that seems to get brought up seems to be the choice of being 'FAI' or 'SAI'.
-Gallery and extras are available after the prologue when your friend Effie gifts you an AI drone named 'Zero'. The Gallery is not complete and will not include smaller sexy times, such as 'punishments' for the catgirl. Highly recommended to start making use of codes as soon as possible when they become available. Most are just bonus art, but the first one is actual gameplay and you will miss out on bonus content in the BioAi building without it.

Basically, my only true gripe is the wtf feelings that result from the plot whiplash moments of the game's story since it is in those moments where the game story suddenly feels like it goes from relaxed pacing to WTFBBQ and feels like it was written by someone who has watched way too much anime.

I'll still play it and follow it, though.

This game is gold, everyone should try it!
Story is very interesting and well written, even tho it is just beginning and I bet it is going to get better and better with each updates.
Game looks awesome, scene animations in this game are probably the best koikatsu animations I have ever seen. Also writing in scenes is great.
Wish you all the luck dev!

Amazing game! This is the game that received my very first review after being on this platform for many years and it was well worth the wait. Very interesting concept that is going on with this game and i hope that it may expand to synthetics that can procreate in the future. Talk about the perfect end to an edging session.

enjoyable characters, interesting enough story, loving the designs of the aigirls so far, great excuse to basically have every flavour of monster girl with the "premium ai" stuff
little slow at first when the sandbox opened, but got better, do wish i could know where to go without having to open up the cards every time, and also being able to click next card rather than backing out and back in would be nice, but not too much of an issue as usually the characters tell you where and when to meet them.
now for the reason im giving this a 5 instead of 4
holy fuck, those animations, sure early on there is some jank with loops, but i can look past that because the animations are fucking solid, its low on sex scenes atm but the most recent one was sick, multiple positions, teasing animation before the scene, and a proper full ending animation, (also props for dialogue during scenes, too many have the animation but it basically becomes a *hit next to continue* thing)

all in all, very excited to see more, and instantly on my list of ones to support when i can

    Pros
+ Girls look fantastic, whoever made the models did a great job blending non human characteristics (horns, scaly skin, tails etc) onto human bodies.
+ Sandbox with no grind, I saw people complaining about this. There are no stats to "grind" the sandbox is just a method to allow you to choose when you want to pursue each girl.
+ Animations are very well done with sex sounds and moaning that sound great. Loops are 5-10 seconds with variation instead of just a few frames looped infinitely.
+ Although still in it's early stages the harem aspect is extremely promising, the foundation is there it just needs to be developed further, a lot of potential there.
+ Game has a bright future, developer is active and transparent on future plans and has already done a lot to improve the game based on player feedback.

    Neutral
~ Some animation loops are a little janky due to the camera moving around and kind of snapping back to it's starting position when the loop happens.
~ So far I would say the game has been more story focused, a little light on sex scenes but that seems to be ramping up.
~ Story is fine nothing groundbreaking but put together well enough, if anything I give the dev an extra point for trying something original relative to other H games.
~ Other than the human/non-human characteristics of the girls they all have basically the same body types (large tits and asses), even the girls that say they have small tits are still quite large.

    Cons
*I don't have any major cons with this game, these are very nitpicky and can easily be improved.
    - Empty sandbox, not really any thing to do other than the tasks that would progress the girls story.
    - No repeatable events, kind of an extension of the last point. A few girls have small repeatable things like "show me your ass" but nothing more beyond that.
    - Update plan seems like the updates will be small, hopefully that means they will be frequent, personally I prefer larger updates even if they take more time.

I love the game and the art is absolutely amazing, I hope it gets even better forward! and the girls design is also top tier with so much variety and personality, and the animations coupled with the romance and events is also very good. I would love for the dev to add more femdom scenes in the future hopefully!

    Story 4/5
I did like the story and the small animations every now and then, but what killed it for me was that the dev clearly either has a big tit fetish or the boob slider got stuck on to big for 95% of the girls, i dont understand why devs dont make a better diversity in builds to make sure there is something for everyones taste, its a bit idiotic really since you cant really enjoy the game when every single LI is a turn-off.

Atleast you can turn them down i think, i say i think since it says skip which normaly means it still happens but dialogs seems to show it dosent but not 100% sure how it works yet.

    Girls 1/5
Soome are pretty cute face wise but diversity in builds are awfull, which results in a turn-off game for people without big tit fetish.

    Animations 3/5
Cant really rate this yet since there wasent a single LI i wanted to see nude or a sex scene with, but for the smaller animations doing the game they seem pretty average.

    Music 3/5
Standard background stuff nothing special and none with lyrics.

    Sandbox 2/5
Its not that bad really, once you learn where each location is its pretty easy, it gets a bit annoying having to click the cards all the time to figure out what to do next with a LI and it has the same stupid issue where questlines are tied together with other LIs even though its call "their personal story" which it isent since you can progress or skip someone you hate without doing all of them, this also makes it feel very kinetic.

I cant really give it more then 3 stars since as an adult game to me personaly its 0 stars due to diversity in builds that only has focus on a single big tit fetish, but story pulls it up a bit since i did like that but it wont be enough to make it playable without having LIs to like, it comes down to personal tastes and fetishes, if they the game had 50/50 big/small builds it could have been 4 or 5 stars.

    0.3.2 review
Story is mid so far, renders are pretty good, Interesting characters. Pacing feels a bit slow and game is empty but it is an early version. However the english In this game isn't great it's a second language at best. It is a bug laden mess currently and needs a lot of polish to get anywhere above 2 stars. Not sure who wrote all the 5 star reviews with bugs that can set you back to the beginning and or yelling to characters that aren't even there.

It could become good just needs a lot of work to get there, I'll update the review when new versions come out if it improves.

    Smrdgy

I want to like this game, the characters are fun, the renders are fine, heck even the choices for the MC are nicely varied, but the sandbox (as of v0.3.2) sucks all the joy out of you.

Once again, as with almost any other sandbox, there are these problems, again...:
    • A lot of empty locations.
    • You have no idea about where, who and when unless you constantly open the character cards, which btw throws an error about a missing image whenever you open it.
    • Locations clearly made for the late game already available from the start - Mansion, maybe some others as well?
    • Almost every location has "Speak with her" button that just says "Sup bitch"... wtf???
    • Annoying navigation
And to rub a salt into the wound, there are boatload of bugs. One even prevents you from continuing the story. When you want to talk to Yuriko, upon clicking the button, you are returned to the main menu...

I wish the dev good luck, I would like to see the game get better and if the issues above get fixed, I will gladly try it again and update my review accordingly. But for now, I advise to avoid playing as it is in this current state and come back later after a few updates.

I like it, obviously its very anime and a bit ridiculous. But the models are great, the scenes so far are great, sandbox is at this point a bit primitive but I believe the dev will improve it. Now I would like to give it a 5 star rating but I really only give 5 stars for completed games and since its quite short at the moment I keep it at 4 stars.
A lot of people have been complaining about grammar but really its not that bad I think. To be fair I usually skip a lot playing VNs like these, so maybe I would've noticed it if I actually sat down to read every single sentence.
Overall a very fun experience to be honest.

    Pros:
    Great visual character designs.
    Interesting enough setting.
Writing can be genuinely funny and erotic at times, also presenting a good array of dialogue choices for the MC.

    Cons:
Story pacing is slow so far, not much happened. Writing can also be bland and generic akin to most slice-of-life stuff.
Bloom was way too high in some renders, like god damn is this the new "I got transported to another world and now all my waifus are lightbulbs!?" isekai?

    Revolving Mania

This game's biggest pros are the somewhat original concept and the unique design of the LIs, but that's where the good things end.

Despite having an original concept, the plot sticks as close as possible to anime tropes and conventions. If you're an anime fan maybe you can think of this as a good thing, but I can't honestly say that considering how predictable it is.

Just like the anime plot, the MC is an anime protagonist. However, his characterization is badly made. He's supposed to be this sad loner and that's only true for the first 5 minutes of the game, after that, he turns into the typical anime perverted protagonist.

The same can be said for the LIs, they are two-dimensional characters with clear archetypes that do things and react but don't feel like real people (or real, sentient AIs, in this case).

Even with all of that, I could just take it for what it is and enjoy without minding it too much, but this game's biggest sin is the typical useless sandbox. It's not a sandbox in the sense that you have freedom, in reality, it's just a kinetic visual novel with extra steps.

Instead of having everything served to you image by image, you are required to click back and forth so that you can experience the pretty much linear plot. You get some choices here and there, but they exist merely for the sake of having choices. When it comes to major decisions, you have no agency and you cannot influence the plot in any way. There's even one choice when you're given an option to decline this girl who wants to help you do something stupid, which I did because the MC's decision was completely insane, but even after declining, another LI accepts it and you're forced to go along with it.

TL;DR: A nice concept with good character design, but an awfully boring and predictable plot with flat characters and a major lack of freedom and agency. Considering the heavy lack of content, I do not recommend playing this game. It's not satisfactory and feels more like a chore.

    tsakalos

Very good game, I love everything so far. Characters, tone, amount of time between the lewd scenes so you can have some buildup, this is seriously so good for a 0.3 version. It had enough content for me to edge for a couple of hours, but I also was reading the text for once because I liked the characters. Other games fail in winning my interest and I just skip the dialog entirely because it's copy paste generic dialog. I'm not saying the dialog here is some masterpiece level, but it does the job at making you interested in the characters.

So taking into account all of this, I can say:

    Pros
    1. Characters 5/5
    2. Pacing 5/5
    3. Story 2.5/5 (I've seen this story before many times, it's ok)
    4. Lewd scenes 5/5 (Original take in many of them, not just skip text and fuck with no context)

    Cons
    1. Not much content so far
    2. Sandbox doesn't really do much because the game doesn't have a mini game or a lot of content so far to make use of it
    3. The world feels empty, but that's due to the game being early in development, the many locations are just placeholders and don't do anything so far, there should be at least some random npc to give flavor to the locations.

    Overall: 5/5

Thank you man, one of the few koikatsu games where the characters look this hot. Please let us paint Naoko nude.

    Reviewing v0.3

AIRevolution is a game that is still in its early stages, but is showing great promise in what it could be. I don't like to fill my reviews with useless information, so here is what you need to know as a potential player who thinks this looks interesting:
    - The variety in girls is phenomenal. Due to the nature of the plot, the main girls in the story are varied in morphology, color, height, personality, and everything you could want. It's very refreshing to see someone really make full use of the character creation in Koikatsu.
    - The H-scenes are a bit limited (for now), but are unique. The dev is clearly still working on improving the H-scenes in this game - the ones I saw only had 1-2 animations, but weren't the standard ones you get in Koikatsu. I have no doubt that these will improve with time, as I can already see tangible difference between v0.2 and v0.3
    - It is a sandbox game. Make of that what you will. I actually like these, but I know not everyone feels the same way
    - The english is a bit rough - however the dev is committed to improving it. The dev's discord channel has a place where people are posting corrections, and the dev is very active in the community at replying to such posts and incorporating new fixes into the dialogue.

    Overall rating: 3.5/5
I hold high hopes for this game mostly due to the dev's attitude and their willingness to engage with the community. It seems like they really want to improve and are trying to make each update better. In a year i'm sure this game will also be very popular.

    Giggling Raven

It's average but has potential. If done right it could be a very good AVN but it really needs some polish.

First of all, the English isn't good. It really needs a proofreader or someone else to help with that because it's quite clear it's not the developer's native language and can be distracting at times. Sure it's possible to understand what's written but it's nowhere near ideal.

The story. Well, it's interesting but has some way too dumb moments for the sake of plot progression. Like kidnapping MC to tell him they (the VAI faction or whatever) plan on dominating the human race goes beyond overconfidence to the point of ridiculous as to why they would even do that or how he almost died and right after just witnessed murder but doesn't do or even reflect on it for more than 5 seconds. Another point is how the MC just decides to steal a PC from a super enterprise just because the redhead AI girl wants a PC to play games with him. Like seriously, that's not even dumb at this point, it's borderline insane.

The characters are pretty good for the most part. Akaime is way too bitchy and I wish it could be toned down and MC is, I guess the best word that could be used for him is "frustrating". It's frustrating how he behaves to anyone and just mopes by himself. It's also frustrating how he mopes in his own loneliness and lets others walk over him, including Akaime herself even on the first day she arrives at his house.

    Review for v0.2

I'd say AIRevoltion is focusing on trying to be fun before anything else. Most of the game feels very surface level in terms of writing. If you thought this may delve into the intricacies of a world where sentient AI is commonplace among humans and all the gray areas with it, you are wrong. You're given a lot of basic/almost nonsensical background info that you're kind of forced to suspend belief about if you want to buy into it, simply because the game doesn't go into detail. Honestly it kind of feels like the dev had a bunch of ideas they thought were cool, but instead of trying to tie everything together into something coherent, it's all sort of being stitched together like patchwork as an analogy. The main plot point becomes evil AI queen wants to make humans servants, so we gotta create a syndicate to stop her. Why? Because she's evil and I have to! And because syndicates are cool I guess.

All the prologue really established for me is that I really dislike the MC. We play as the very generic school loner. Whatever, maybe he has some redeemable qualities? Not really. I just love watching him mope and complain about being lonely and playing videogames all day. Am I supposed to feel bad for him after watching him judge a girl for being "weird' while she trys to talk to him? Or how he begs his "best friend" to let him hang out with her other friends? Or when he calls his new indentured servant AI "bitch" for the 4th time? He's just your very generic perv anime protagonist otherwise, and I think that sucks.

What probably saves this game is the girls. Going the AI android route leaves a lot more room for creative freedom in terms of character design, and I think the dev does well in that department. They all look pretty good. Personality wise they're a bit tropey but pretty cute/endearing as well. I didn't play long enough to get to any real lewd scene, but there was one where a girl lets us touch her boobs. Instead of showing that though, we just get some text describing the MC doing it while they bounce a bit.

Now I should mention I only played the prologue. I got to the sandbox, seen it has an awful UI, and said I'm not dealing with all that. The game didn't capture me enough to want to click through 30 different rooms/locations across different time periods in hopes of finding a girl, because the game sure doesn't tell you where to go or what to do to make it easier.

Also going to mention the translation is rough. Is it understandable? Yes, but far from ideal.

Truthfully I don't think the game is without potential, and I think it's totally fine to take a fun approach where you're not worried about having the plot of the century. However, there feels like a lack of organization maybe is the word that makes this feel kinda messy more than anything. I'd probably give this 4 stars if the protagonist wasn't so ass honestly, but I find it hard to like him and obviously that's a big issue for me.

This is what peak perfomance looks like, the story is gold, my tip is to wait 1 year for more content, because you will want more. all the girls looks gorgeous and have interesting dialogues, there is a good world building but mosty is mysterious because its too early only 0.2.
