The big push for ID verification is obviously something that has been planned and coordinated behind the scenes for a while.
I mean, wasn't the UK online safety act passed in 2023. Several US states have put up laws for age verification over the last few years as well. Not to mention the age verification requirements coming into effect in Australia later this year. It's not like the push for this kind of stuff is that big a secret.

When Flori-DUH did that, Pornhub simply blocked access from the state.

That's what they want. They want to ban all porn in the US, and the best way to do that is make business not viable. Pornhub pulled out and they want all of them to. Just saw one youtube video on this:

Now that's just one source, so we need more.

State laws were barely enforced and sites that complied just blocked those states. The new ID scheme is being rolled out very quickly across mainstream sites like YT, Discord, and Twitter.

Well yeah. Because pornhub probably isn't going to go through the trouble to make up their own secure ID age verification system just to get money from some random state when people will just use a VPN. But big players like google can easily implement a secure ID system and not miss out on any business. Plus youtube, twitter, etc. probably have more competition then pornhub so if they don't do it someone else like tik tok or bluesky will gladly take the users.

Not to mention the issue of the UK and Australia also putting these kinds of laws in place.

Even for a big player like Google these things take time, money, and testing to implement. Especially for a big player like Google running tons of interconnected services with millions of accounts. This wasn't something they could just pull out of their ass and drop in on demand because one or two countries just passed a law demanding it.

To be fair, What used to be Twitter (which was always pretty toxic anyway) went way down in quality with the new owner. And it banned more people than it did when it was Twitter...Bluesky is much better.

Don't know if this will have any effect on the current situation with steam and itch.io but I think it could be a step in the right direction.

Of course they didn't do it at the drop of a hat. I'd assume they started building this system several years ago when the UK law was passed and they decided not losing out on youtube revenue from the UK was worth the cost. This was publicly available knowledge for years so it's no surprise that companies were planning for the thing they all knew was coming. Seems like an even better investment now that they can apply the same work to users in Australia for example.

You can say that again.

Trump passed this executive law....never imagined him of all people to stand against such debanking....he literally mentioned REMOVING REPUTATIONAL RISK AS AN EXCUSE TO REMOVE SERVICES..lol

WE WON, I think so.

I wouldn't celebrate until there is actually legislation passed. There is a bill being worked on in congress that would essentially do the same as that executive order. So if we actually want change something like that would have to pass.

This is more from the debanking efforts on gun companies, certain activist Republicans, ammunition companies, coal companies, investors investing in oil, and so forth. The left was systematically trying to target them and it made issues (I am a neutral person, do not associate me with Trump, just observing the truth).

None of what you said is what the person I replied to either explicitly or implicitly stated.

Also, the image I shared would not be banned because the image is not in a sexual context.

Know the difference.

It's like people forget a thing called "context."

Just like people forget "artist merit" and "for sexual gratification".
For now.
