I like the BGM, but it's annoying that it keeps getting interrupted as you transition between screens.

Not all of them. It was a big plot point, that most "Persocoms" had the on/off button in their horns, which also served as their ears. The main Persocom of the series was the Chobit, who was supposed to be a "true AI", and her "father" made her and her sister to have their button in the vagina. This essentially meant that they could not have sex, and any partner they chose was to love them without something so petty as sex getting in the way. I could remember feeling so bad for Hideki when I read that, because he'll never be able to have sex with Chi. Dick move on the part of her maker, to deliberately make her reset button in her vagina.
