Hello,

I got roughly 2 months of in-between jobs this summer, and with nothing ells really on my hands, I thought I would try out some game making.

For the platform I have chosen Rpg-maker, as I wanted a bit more active gameplay with maybe some small puzzles, than just clicking through screens over and over. And it's fairly easy to pick up, which is nice as well.

Now to my question. I have started creating a story, a world where it's being played in in Rpg-Maker, and have started making a 3d base model for my images (I'm an urban designer irl and learned to use most programs required to make that in Uni).

I would like to try making animations to use as the NSFW scenes between the gameplay, but this isn't exactly something I got a lot of experience in. I have looked up some programs and Daz seems to be the main one used for human animations. I kind of went for a more cartoonist style overall and I was wondering if there are programs more suitable for this? Somewhat closer to the art style of Summertime saga or Town of passion.

As I will (most likely) create basic 2d models of my characters by just drawing them out in photoshop, any program that could tap into this would help a lot.

Thanks for reading.

Toon Boom Harmony is the most robust 2D animation suite that I'm familiar with, but it's a premium product (thought not terribly expensive if you just go with the basic package). For basic loop animations, there are a variety of options, really... Moho costs about as much as a AAA game, OpenToons and Synfig are both free and opensource (but that also means a little janky). Most any modern animation program can help you map bones onto a drawn character and then animate those bones to keyframes. If you want to start doing more complex things (stretching, transforms, lipsync, etc), then you'll want to look into one of the more robust platforms that have those options baked in by default (or invest some time on Youtube looking at tutorials).

Cheers, and good luck on your game.
