v1.046 Reviewed
This is a great example of a top-notch idea that get's a little held back by its delivery.
I'll start by saying I have mad respect for this dev delivering a product that feels like it was written for adults by an adult.
The conversations feel organic, and manage to pull off a rare win for the MC's wife in an adult game: I genuinely like her and the story on the path I took unraveled in a way that made me feel unshackled by the state of MC's marriage to her rather than trapped by it.
It's not perfect...There are some pacing issues, particularly with how quickly things move with Donny at the bar, on the first date, but that's a quibble and it's still far easier to suspend disbelief here than how most AVN liaisons form.
There are plenty of choices, and I have not examined the code yet to see how much they matter, but I stumbled into a fairly rich arc of the story that has the MC and his wife enthusiastically exploring opening their relationship together with what feels like the appropriate amount of reflection, caution and gravitas.
I will say that the more I played, the more I found myself wishing the dev had refined his DAZ game a little bit more before committing this to release. The facial expressions in particular often lack the subtlety or variation to make a line of dialogue feel properly aligned to them.
I understand that not everyone is rendering on a multiple high-end GPUs, but I can handle graininess and low iteration count a lot better than I can facial expressions that poorly reflect the mood of the moment.
It's not terrible, it's just disappointing given the quality of the storytelling.
That aside, the framework is pretty bare bones...There is no tracker that I see for point min/maxers, and perhaps that is for the best. The player is reminded of a general "confidence" level he is perceived by the ladies to have at periodic checkpoints.
There is little UI customization, and no extra features to really make this stand out from a stock Ren'Py effort the dev populated with words and art.
That said, I'll still give it four stars without reservation. It was well-written, intriguing, and immersive on story alone, and that by itself puts it head and shoulders among most efforts on this site.
I will be watching this career with great interest.
