People don't always like the choices the protagonist makes, but they can enjoy the story. Some players self-inserts as the MC, and conflicts arise between the player's personality, and the actions of the story protagonist.
When the protagonist is a voyeur, those players can self-insert, and enjoy the show. They assume the role of voyeur, rather than trying to dictate the story themselves which is futile.

So voyeur protagonist is well suited for story based visual novels.

There are a number of studies on people having a feeling of being watched. It can be good feelings or bad. Like a guardian angel, or a ghost. Occasionally a voyeur might get caught, by one of the subjects. I rarely find that I really identify with the protags in these games anyway - unless the story is really immersive and the characterisation is strong enough to overwhelm the self. The MC's gender/race/species/whatever doesn't affect that for me - e.g. I was very immersed in Tabitha from Coceter Chronicles, despite very much not being a female demon with a footlong.

I do need to find all the characters in a sex scene attractive, though - if the MC's gross I just can't play. Same with porn... Never watch German porn!

But "Reality Television" isn't real... Most Reality TV shows are scripted, sometimes rehearsed, producers provoke some outcomes, those being filmed have a tendency to show off or exaggerate things for the camera, and so on... The public viewers tend to be oblivious to the reality of reality television, being trapped into what the producers are really showing you as supposed to actual real life... It's a highly produced show like any other... It is only in very rare instances that what you see, is how it would have really been without a camera present, even when they try to play off instances of Hidden Camera scenes/events... The newer generations of television viewers are more susceptible and/or gullible to those sorts of shows, which in turn just hurts the overall health of a well informed society... Creating trends and thoughts that do more harm then good, with some folks thinking they are true reality... And why do they keep making that stuff? Because real life is typically rather mundane and boring... And how are they gonna make their advertising money from mundane and boring?
