I can't remember why, but last I checked, you should actually go for the one on hongfire not f95 for honey select

finally got around to downloading that file through the torrent since it was the only link that worked. Do I need to download the base game too or something? because it is not working.

It doesn't need a base game, just unzip and start it using the .bat file. Make sure you apply the hotfix from the hongfire thread and the registry fix.
