Ren'Py - Abandoned - Apartment 96 [Update 3] [YTV Productions]

Fantastic graphics, great story, really really looking forward to the continuation of this one. One of the best looking I've seen in awhile. The women are all exceptionally beautiful and the art doesn't look like any other game I've seen on here. Maybe the hand drawn games like Patronus? Either way, definitely a winner right out of the gate.

Yes I agree the plot does seem to skew of path as others have said by having the characters totally flip the story around in such a short time with almost no reason or input from you the MC. However the renders are done nicely and I do enjoy the characters established and see a possibility for expansion. Overall not a horrible start.

A story which just does not add up so far in my eyes. This review is on the first release and as such will not be hiding spoilers so proceed with that understanding. This is the early parts of the game and you will run into anything discussed pretty fast anyway, so I do not feel the need to hide them because of this and will speak freely on them.

So here is the thing about these games from my perspective, usually a man enters a house with a family and proceeds to have relations with them and let's be honest, they usually rate highly, five stars all round and many a can't wait for more type of sentiment. I have no doubt this will probably go the same route. They rate highly and get a lot of likes because those games always are sought after on this site, from my own personal view and experience. Just the nature of things and no issues with that from me, just that I know my review will probably not be in line with what will mostly be stated, I can only assume. Maybe I will be wrong.

But for my rating this is a two star game because for me and this is just my opinion, the weight of the story collapses with what it is trying to explain with the plot. It just does not add up. If you don't care about stories making sense etc then this is probably not the review for you and if you like games where the MC can do no wrong and is just amazing for no reasons given and just for being him and you can accept that, then you will probably like this game and absolutely enjoy it if this is your perspective.

Now let's get into the review, you are a young man who goes to live with a family consisting of a mother and two daughters due to a job offer in the city and you get the house rules, do not try anything with my daughters and be respectful. Now remember this is the introduction to the game, I can already tell you in a short space of time that not only are these rules pretty much filler and disregarded, the mother even says you will be a good fit for the daughter she is most concerned about. Something is not adding up. You are already disregarding your own foundations for a plot.

We learn another young man lived with them before you and acted kind at the beginning, took one of the girls virginity and found out in the end to be just pretending to be a kind person, his mask slips and leaves. I guess he completed what you are now setting out to do. So if you do not like that type of thing, you might not like that fact. So you would think this family would be a little bit more cautious with the next male they live with. Fear not, they just ignore all this, you can have sex with the mother and not only that, the two daughters want to share you and think you are amazing for no real reasons given except you listen to some conversations a few times and that is it. It is one of those games which abandons its own set up instantly and sets you up as the second coming of Christ for little to no logical explanation. Surely someone would be a little cautious after the last tenant used them and pretended to be nice just to get one of their virginity, nope that is all out the window pretty fast. This family I guess are just not very interested in learning lessons or realising people can be fake ie the first tenant that supposedly had such a traumatic impact on them and they just quickly get over it to repeat things by quickly progressing with you.

I played this twice, once fast making terrible choices just to see what would happen. Don't worry, the family love you regardless and you will still come to the same ending no matter how terrible you are, it appears. I played this really slowly the second time and a lot of this set up just defies logic and you are on rails like I suspected with very little choice. The conversations leave a lot to be desired and the plot pretty much breaks its own set up so fast and then we learn about the former tenant and after all the issues they had with him they are so totally down for this new person to be in a relationship etc. Dear lord who knew making dinner and barely speaking to people had this type of reaction. Lord knows the types of success the former tenant had with such easy to please company etc.

The only thing that could make all this make sense is if we learn in the future all this is some set up these three people do the whole time and they are actually all insane and this is some game they play with every tenant who moves in to see what occurs. Maybe this is all a set up, the notebook, the conversations to see how you react, the evidence they lay out for you.

But regardless, you are forced into things such as the weird interactions with panties etc, I chose not to, but that was irrelevant as it makes you. Also some choices you make for certain things not to happen, the later conversations or thinking to yourself act like if they did happen. All on rails. That ending towards the prologue no matter what you do or how stupid you were is eye rolling as you pretty much get the same result. Be warned one of the sisters suggests an open relationship and she will be sleeping with others. So that might be a future plotline and if you are uncomfortable about a future LI having relations with others, as why would she mention it otherwise. Some people don't like that, so at least I am warning you to make your own decision if you want to wait for future updates to see where that goes.

The reason I hope this is all some set up by a creepy family who likes to set up the tenant to play this weird game is if it is not, then none of this makes sense. O let's let a new tenant in and let our guard down almost instantly and share him etc....... I mean come on, and it happens almost instantly for no reason. The set up is so shaky. If you had this much issue with the last tenant just rent the room to a girl, collect money and avoid zero issues.

I typed this up pretty fast and took some of my forum post also as it covered some things I wanted to touch on, so if there is some repetition, forgive me. But at least I explain why I feel the way I feel in my reviews. This is only the first release and of course it can get better and maybe down the road some things will be explained which clear some things up. So if you disagree or enjoy the game, glad to hear it and take care. But this is my review and how I felt after finishing it.

Pretty good game here, I have to be honest and say that I did not expect much for a 1st release (considering is a prologue, but it looks more like a 1st chapter of any good game that comes to your mind, it has enough content to see that this game have lots of potential.)
The writing is pretty good
the renders and the girls are very cute and well written.
Decent animations, may not be the strong point of the game but is enough considering the time it usually takes for devs.
The story is the strong point, a very enjoyable slice of life with easy sandbox elements (you don't really need a walkthrough since the game points you where to go) and no bluebells at all, the sex scene happens at a point that fits the story and that is something I like in games, this one does it pretty well.
I do really recommend this game, hopefully, we can get a harem ending

I would say this game has a huge potential to be a top game in the future, the render and the girls are looking really great. The story is not perfect and a bit cliche (but complaining about cliche is also cliche itself).

Really looking forward to the next update!

Everything feels so cliched that I can't get sucked into the story. That's not necessarily a deal breaker as the renders are good, so this could still be decent fap material. What really killed it for me was how linear it is so far. Most notably with the panties found in the bathroom. Even refusing to do anything with them somehow fails to prevent MC from cumming on them and getting stuck in yet another porn cliche. At that point just man up the protagonist a little and remove the choices so you can have a smooth flowing kinetic novel.

By the time I'm typing this, The prologue has been released and i highly doubt my opinion will change. Be sure to read the conclusion if you can't be arsed to read the entire review, A fantastic original game with a very bright future.

Story: The main premise is cliché however it isn't how common it is but how you present the already known, quite a difficult task however this game present the task not perfectly but not appalling. The typical MC being sent to a boarding place that somehow has eye catching plot of a recent divorce with 2 daughters is quite weird, the developer should've made it like a family friend but a flatmate approach is alright but I'm sure there are better alternatives out there. The characters you will encounter has bright personality's to your general preference so being greedy and getting it all will be a general approach since it did suggest it in game by a character I will not say. Immersion is good but it could be better. 4/5

Gameplay: The gameplay is a normal point and click adventure visual novel, however I have to point out the creativity of guiding the players in case you may get a bit lost, the objectives are flashing a slight glint of white making it clear what you need to interact unlike other games where you have a personal hint guide, though it is elementary it smooths out the gameplay unlike stopping mid way to see what you have to do next despite either skipping the dialogue or not paying attention, personally I'm guilty of doing this. The UI is unique unlike the common Ren'Py games I've played over the years, all in all Simplistic and smooth is what I describe this. 5/5

Scenes: Sadly this is the first released of the game, so there isn't much going on however from what I've gathered in-game and teaser, this will be a smooth non-animated game where the scenes are dialogue related on what the MC does however there are hidden ones when not doing a certain action which can aware the MC, Dramatic Irony is highly used in games but not exampled properly. this happens to be the case when coming to Alex, not saying much but most scenes featuring her can be murky depending what pool you dip into. CG are clean with nice blenders. 5/5

Conclusion: Read this if you can not be arsed reading the paragraphs I made, all in all GREAT game but it can be perfected. story is good and captivating whilst scenes and gameplay are smooth enough to be immersed within the game. I'm Definitely keeping an eye on this game. I hope the game developer is in good health and in prosperity. 5/5
