I'd say banning it is a bit far, and this is coming from somebody who isn't keen on it either. It's just another tool for creating the visuals, just like Daz, Koikatsu, and Honey Select. And it's even a similar concept, where devs who use 3D software programs for their game visuals still vary in quality depending on the effort they're willing to put into things. Seeing a game with koikatsu visuals that use unmodified stock characters with default assets and lighting is almost as big a turn-off to me as seeing AI art (almost).Petition to ban ai content? Its just bad and once 1 person figures it out it starts to be spammed like crazy.
AI art can look decent when effort is put into the process (and the final images are actually edited), more appealing than stock 3D images for me. Problem right now is that AI art is new and people aren't being discerning enough with it. Give it time and enough oversaturation and players will start to be selective with the AI art products they're willing to engage with, and devs will be forced to put effort in or fall in to obscurity. At least, that's my hope XD
I've dabbled in it myself, as someone who's been doing art for over thirty years, and find that there's a lot of potential for AI when it comes to being an art tool. Getting an image that's ALMOST good, then editing all the wonky bits in Clip Studio can get respectable results. Still not going to hold a candle to handcrafted stuff from an expert, but it's a far cry from the mass generated garbage that is considered acceptable nowadays. I'll stick to creating art from scratch myself, but as I mentioned I've already got the relevant skill set so I can't knock those who don't.
My hope for AI art is that someday it will be the equivalent of movie CG: when it's utilized appropriately and done well you won't even notice it. In the meantime... we'll just have to endure the low tier trash that is the growing pains of an industry :-/
