Hello everyone, long time lurker, first time poster here! Or at least first time thread creator.
I'm an aspiring game developer and I've been on this site for quite a while, I did somehow lose my original account though so this one isn't that weathered.
But let's just jump right in to the good stuff!
I've been learning blender now since around Christmas, and boy oh boy is there a lot to learn. I'm finally comfortable enough with what I've got to start showing some progress, talking about the game in general and what my, for a lack of a less pretentious word, vision, of it is.
I'm not really that in to the daz models, the autorig deformations and first and foremost I really enjoy learning shit from the ground up. It takes longer but I feel like it builds better foundational skills and a better understanding of how and why to do things.
It is a lot of learning and a lot of work though, like, a lot.
What I'm doing is basically modeling everything from cubes (Not the default one don't worry) and then I manually rig and weight paint everything by hand. I'm using a couple of scripts to make a few things faster but it is rigorous work. When I'm at a point where I feel I know it really well, I will start looking into automating tools, but as mentioned I want to really learn the basics, so that when I do automate something and I'm (inevitably) not happy with some of the results, I have a good foundation of knowledge of how to fix it.
I'm not as much introducing myself as the game, and characters I'm making though, so here's a little about that as well!
So obviously with my lack of excitement for existing tools that are widely used such as daz, honeyselect, koikatsu etc, I set out to, at least to some degree, make my own style. It's more of a stylized look than realistic, I just really like that vibe you know and it's kind of rare to see in this particular space.
There wound be any imported meshes or textures, I hate it when things don't match with eachother and it's all just a copy paste dump scene. But I'm also just one person so the level of detaili will be somewhat limited by that. But that's another reason why I feel stylized was a good fit for this. Who knows, at some point maybe if I'm lulcky it will pick up, and I could dedicate a lot more time than just my spare time after my dayjob ends.
So what actually exists at this point in time you might wonder, if there's anyone at all reading this rambling. WELL let me tell you.
A lot of the story is written. 7 characters are, I would say, about 70% done. Their meshes are done, and their hairs are done. a couple of them have finished basecolor UV's. There are no blush/wet masks etc finished right now.
Another pet peeve of mine is still images. I can promise that there will not be a single just still piture in this game . I really don't like that shit. You can put gifs in renpy, gifs can have transparency, and you can layer images in renpy. It would take so little effort to add things like blinking eyes, leaves blowing, birds in the background etc. Now let me take back my first promise, it's important to set expectations of promises low right away, ya know? No but seriously there might be some still images here and there' but only for dramatic effect, not because it takes a little less time or because it's good enough. I want to make a vibrant game, I want there to be a bit of life and not just clicking to get to the next animation.
Because I'm doing everythign in blender, it's very easy to switch the lighting, add/remove/replace things, with that in mind I'll be going for more of a world building, development feeling. I probably shouldn't have even mentioned that yet because it won't be in the first 2 chapters, and none of the scenes have an altarnate scene yet, but that's still where it's going.
I'm just really excited to write about this stuff, and I have been since I started learning about 6 months ago now.
I don't want to show too much yet or really spoil the story, but a few take aways are, it's stylized, there's petite characters, tall characters, somewhat muscular characters, chubby characters. It's fantasy, there's a magic theme. MC's family is, to a degree, based off of Norse mythology. There will be cloth sims, as in not just animated clothing but with wind and physics simulations. The characters are largely physics simulated, meaning when a character is lying down, her tits won't be standing up like the peaks of mount doom. When dancing in a shirt, you'll be able to see the breasts move independatly from the cloth. There's raycast, so when MC grabs an ass, boob, thigh etc, it moves/bulges. All of this takes a bit of time to set up (It's all mostly set up) but in turn it makes animations so much more lifelike and just, you know, look a lot better. There's wind in trees and grass, procedurally animated water, there's leaves blowing in the wind. All in all it's actually starting to look pretty, in my honest personal opinion, pretty great.
Now about the images. The first one is the only character that is completely finished, except clothes, that dress is just a very simple proof of concept for myself. But that is the style I'm going for. The second one is mostly finished, there's still some UV work to be done on the hair, eyelashes etc.
The rest are all on the first mesh I created, they all have elf ears, and a stupid face (first one I made) but all of their bodies and faces are done, they're just not combined, so I just took some quick snapshots from my hair blend file, as you can see none of the hairs from that are completely finished, but we're talking like a 20 minute job on each there.
I'll be uploading my progress here, or if there's a better subforum for it please feel free to let me know!
I'll also be uploading some enviromental showcasing, poses etc, in a few days but I just finished UVing the finished one so that's what I wanted to show right now
There's probably so much more I want to write and so much more I could show, but this is already pretty fucking meaty for a first post so let's just end it here.
Let me know if it looks interesting or if you absolutely hate the shit out of it. But like, if you do, let me know why so I can develop and not just keep sucking..
Read through it and boy, it's a lot, sorry not sorry. Almost forgot that it's a fucking porn game though so the least I could do is upload a titty shot or something, so I'll add that
