I think content creators fall into one of three categories :
1 : The Passionate Artist
Creators in this group, create because they like to see people enjoy their content. Many start out as consumers of other's content and are often inspired to create similar or derivative works. The content out of this group is generally the "Best" that content can ever be. The passion drives the work, the artistry is unrestrained, and creativity pushes the boundaries. Often these are the artist that set the trends, genres, bar so that others can follow.
2 : The Creative Entrepreneur
Creators in this group, create because they desire to utilize their talents to achieve financial gain. Many transition from group 1 and some begin in this category after seeing content where they think they can do better. The content out of this group is usually "High Quality" as they have a desire to produce something that will impress their audience enough to purchase more content. This group has passion but it is the drive for reward that controls the show. Most mainstream creators are in this group.
3 : The Opportunity Seeker
Creators in this group, create because they are seeking financial gain by capitalizing where they believe their is opportunity. They may have little or no passion, and often times little or no actual talent. The content from this group while sometimes polished, will be derivative, feel uninspired, and always follow the trends set by group 1 and 2. Sometimes those from group 1 or 2 end up here after they lose all their passion.
Interesting enough this is true of almost all content generators (porn, 3D, youtube, music, etc).
What you have to ask yourself is :
a. Do I want the "Best" content?
b. Do I have resources to help?
c. How do I help inspire the creators to stay in group 1, or 2?
People will continue to need money to eat, pay bills, etc. Facts of life.
We can endlessly argue about the delays, challenges, frustration, etc, etc, etc of content creators, or we can find the good ones and do whatever we can to keep them creative.
I hope Animo keeps creating. I do wish that Animo would be a little less Group 2ish. I think Animo started in the Group 1 camp, and has transitioned.
Hopeful for passionate creativity...
