I'm not so sure that I agree with this. Except for the part where priorities are kind of weird. Let me elaborate:

Level editing and back end overhauls have already been an early priority since the original version of Beat Banger was out. The game's initial wave of interest included a burgeoning modding community that went out of its own way to develop and use external tools because the game didn't already offer what was needed. Wanting to actually offer support for what said base, the already existing base, makes a lot of sense as a priority. So what we're kind of looking at here is that the first volume was developed while the back end and these features were being developed, revised, etc. That acts as a proof of concept for what the game is going to be, and it also opens an opportunity to actually start monetizing and merchandising on wholly original work instead of the original version of the game, which used borrowed characters. All of that works out, and there aren't any clear issues with doing it that way. This is the early part of the game's development cycle where building and refining those foundations is key. Content updates are slower in comparison because they take less priority than making sure the game works the way that it's supposed to and its features are readily accessible and effective for what its base wants.

But then you've got stuff like spending time programming in and having assets done for holidays, which is comparatively frivolous and can (and should) absolutely wait to be added in later. The only excuse I could imagine for doing this is "we were waiting for certain things to get done within the team, so we just pivoted to doing something small and easy while waiting for completion." But even if that turns out to have been the case, it doesn't feel good to your waiting audience to see little baubles like this that not only get implemented, but then have to be updated and tweaked across multiple consecutive updates where there are no major content changes.
Well, you have some really good points and I would concede if wasn't for the fact that it took them like 2 years to finish act 1. If we are still on the early stages of development like you say it means there must be something really wrong with the leadership that can't seem to focus long enough to deliver on a timely manner. Need I remind you of the roadmap they released a while ago?

Just to clarify I'm not trying to be an asshole that criticizes just for the sake of it. In my opinion it seems that a lot of people give bunfun games a lot of leeway and not enough criticism for taking so long and delivering so little.

how do i unlock devmode?
Don't remember, was gonna check but I guess I deleted older version awhile back.

It is either the `(~ that one but without shift to make the ~ not sure what ` is actually called) key to bring up dev console or F2(?) and then I think you type either dev or devmode or /dev or /devmode

I know you can cheese maps in devmode just get one note right and press 'end' key I think to quickly end to be able to watch replay cause it will count as 100% with one note. This also works on mod maps.

This is the early part of the game's development cycle
Nah nibba the whole "Nothing" updates and reinventing the wheel thingy has been going on for the past 2 years (game first came out in 2021 btw). The whole game is a scam where the dev makes up empty promises and doesn't deliver on the premises of these important "technical" updates (that some 12yo that just started using Godot would implement in a single evening). While the whole modding community literally keeps the game alive. I severely doubt that using and half-implementing (its extremely buggy and doesn't connect to my toys anymore) some plugin that someone else already made (gspot) takes 3 months of development and 7000$/month, well unless Kom is actually borderline retarded (which he isn't considering how good the whole scam is going and people now even buying the same unfinished game on steam).

Im also pretty sure these empty updates serve the purpose of simply bumping the game on platform like f95 or itch/steam

BIG NEWS!!!

So, today, Kom posted a video about a new Achievement UI in the Modding channel of the game. However, modders soon got on his ass about the lack of communication, the bug-fixes and etc. Resulting in a Back and forth before Kom left. Discord_YsE3eTVSR0.png Discord_19H8mfPTx0.png Then he came back, another arguement ensured and now Kom has muted the Modding Channel on the server. Discord_8lZD25WMY3.png Discord_tinVzRL7nQ.png WIIytd5UwZ.png
WE FINALLY DID IT. Kom has hit his lowest low. He has successfully punched and disrespected the modders and silenced them for their criticism. OF COURSE, this isn't all the context screenshots, but... I believe they're enough to get the point.

"Mods enable slow mode"

Fuck me, someone get the popcorn.

On a more serious note, maybe Kom's blowing this out of proportion? I mean, maybe if we had a more structured, transparent roadmap, none of this would have happened? I dunno gamedev stuff, but it seems like a natural block to stop this sort of thing that can damage your relationship with the demographic keeping the project relevant.

Kinda crazy how... the game dev are taking a long time to make the animations (or show something)
Meanwhile there's some modders animators doing stuff like this in less than 2 weeks at least (and some modders are not even in the main server, that's crazy)

b) Full scorched earth, Beat Banger is cancelled fuck all of you
c) Nothing happens and he keeps fucking over modders while doing jack

I don't know what their backlog and code repo looks like. Kirbykid wasn't just a modder, but was actually contributing at some point, IIRC the old charting tool used for making mods was his.

The problem doesn't look like one that would be solved with a roadmap to me, at least not what people around here seem to refer to as a roadmap. Most people seem to be looking for a content roadmap, but those are only really predicable if you have resources that aren't switching between tasks and are focused on that specific effort.

This looks like an unfocused team, where certain mostly independent efforts seem to run pretty smooth (merch), while other resources likely have mixed responsibilities. I have a feeling the split focus is between finishing the game features (not content), bugfixes and design cleanup (clearly this attention to detail matters to them), completion of mod tools (this part of the community kept them running for a long time), and actual game content (story, art, animation, music, chapters, etc).

Kinda crazy how... the game dev are taking a long time to make the animations (or show something)

Game dev and animations are generally separate things. I spend some time last year charting out about 4 songs, and throwing together a few animations. None of this was dev work.

I'm hoping for D.

They need to figure out what matters to them for the next few builds/releases, communicate what they're going to focus on, and deliver that. Once they reset their focus, someone should chart out what done looks like to them and how they plan to get there from here (that's their roadmap).

I'm suspicious that it may be easier for them to define a roadmap for the dev side than for the content side. I doubt they have a narrative figured out, which could be part of the block for content side of things. It's pretty easy to chart songs, and throw arbitrary assets together for a level, but if you don't know where you're going with your story, it's hard for them to keep building on what they have.

Is it really so hard for the dev to understand that 90% of players don't give a fuck about bug fixes, UI updates or modding capabilities? Everyone wants more main content. That's it. Just focus on releasing Act 2. No one cares about these small little refinement updates. It's completely understandable how frustrated people are with this slow development.

Not B cause obviously this is his cash cow.

So it is probably a or c, leaning to c.

I prefer to give the benefit of the doubt and be rational about why the game's development is what it is, but I agree that having a good roadmap is integral to actually getting a project done, and that having transparency about the roadmap is good for games that are both launched and in development at the same time.

That being said, a dev doesn't need to show every single detail of a road map for it to be sufficiently transparent. There just needs to be enough information that the people following the game's development understand the broad strokes of where development currently is and what the various goals look like.

Kom deserves some flack here though, in that he was asked for transparency and chose to instead publicly air his grievances and then have a little fit about it. Receiving a lot of negative criticism is one thing, and it's understandably hard on someone. What's not fine is then sort of channeling that into a "woe is me" tantrum where it doesn't belong. If he was overwhelmed or whatever, he could have just taken that little break he decided he needed at the end of his venting session and then come back to take part in a more conducive conversation. He is the person that the community has to look to for information about the game's development, and is effectively the community leader. That means he needs to be responsible.

Follow up to the Big news.

After, the muting of the Modding Channel. Kom unmuted it and decided to move the Modding Channel to the Discussion part of the server(due to the lack of disccussion about mod making). After a couple of hours, an actually drunk modder joined the server again and started shit up, awakening Kom and starting day 2 of the Argument.

Discord_XzT4TTVwJI.png Discord_9QXsciXs4Y.png
However, after a back and forth Kom finally back down, and apologized for the lack of content, his attitude towards the modding community, and says he'll be more transparent with them. Effectively, making the Modding community apologize back for their attitude, and the two parties shook hands as they came to an agreement. It is yet, to be seen IF Kom will follow through his words. Time will tell.

I thinks it pretty clear that Koms issue isnt people giving him criticism the main issue is that his own community doesn't fuck with him. 1000042523.jpg
1000042522.jpg
Brings up kindness and other stuff about community but it's clear he doesn't even care about the modding community and blames the games slow updates on the community stressing him out. The guy just wants yes and thank you men in the community and people to hang out with in his vr chat goon ses.
