Could be the same story we've seen play out thousands of times. He was planning on making the game much smaller initially, but it got a lot more attention that he though it would. Due to this his ambitions vastly inflate and outstrip his ability, and what is done keeps being redone since it "isn't good enough" for something this big. A lot of people think that more people = my game needs to be bigger. He could be in a state of panic trying to get people to leave the game for all we'll ever know. Actually trying to sabotage it due to how much of his life it's consuming or due to ego or whathave you. A lot of creators end up trying to sabotage their creations as a way to bury it as they see it as bad, but know just stopping making will mean it's fans and impact remain.
I guess that makes sense, this guy is such a drama queen i can see that being the case, like he's fucking over the people enjoying his game, it's pants-on-head stupidity.

Also, dumb question now that I'm planning on trying these mods out cuz the built-in mod searcher is ass: how do you access those Discord links? Not the most active Discord user so I know they're bound to change some things, but I figure these come from the BunFan discord server right? I'm not in it and the one on OP is dead.
yeah, they're all in the bunfan discord server. There's a link to it on their website that's in the OP. Click on the website link and they have the discord button on the top right of their website you can use to join.

Kom has decided that pissing off one half of the fanbase just wasn't enough, he has announced that from this point on Legacy version mods are verboten and will be deleted on sight.

here's the announcement if you are confused as to why,

i love that "having to support clunky code for backwards-compatibility"
can you tell me why kirbykid was able to do just that?

to me it's just weak excuses to run away from something

You know, I wonder about this. if the game allegedly has 8 some devs, and chapter 2 was initially announced in 2022 with some stuff being shown back then. What the hell are most of the devs doing on this game? They are making money from patreon so presumably they don't have to over work at a real job and can only do some work once a week. And with how little was done in the past year being indicative of only one lazy person working what is going on? Do the other devs actually exist?

What on earth are you talking about, Chapter 2 being announced in 2022? Did you mean the 2.0 "official" release release that made the original one into Legacy?

In the oldest version 2 build I have laying around, the credits mention 6 staff members. Though, that's not especially important here, which is the question "what the hell are most of the devs doing on this game?" You can try to make sense of that by looking at the Bunfan staff list, which you can read But what you're probably actually asking about is "why is this development cycle apparently so inefficient?" Which is that this is an indie game by a small group that more or less doesn't have any experience doing this, and has so much fucking shit to learn. The early phases of Beat Banger's development are kind of a hot mess, even if there is real progress to show for their work. I get the impression that Kom is trying to learn and trying to get his ducks in a row, but sooner would have been better than later. We'll have to see if he can get his house in order and straighten out the game's development cycle in the near future.

I might be miss remembering the 2022 thing, I though it was with the ending of legacy and start of "release" that that was announced. Unless it was only Dawna and Gale or something, which is even more sad since they only came out in 2023 and late 2024 respectfully. Meaning it took 2 years to do very little actual work.

I don't know that I'd call that very little work. There was a ton of work that went into the game, though less work that we in the audience could really see the fruits of over this past year or so. That first period of "official" had a lot of coding work, there was time spent on better quality art, and then coding revisions as further changes to match what the game could do better with the interests of the modding community. I would say that the game's development was really trucking along, and we got to a point where the time between levels was not all that shabby.

And then it seemed to have slowed down considerably. We don't know what exactly happened behind the scenes from out here, but more announcements ended up having to do with community engagement, game marketing, and other structural changes to things like coding and UI. The release of playable levels went way down as more of what Kom wanted to do with the game took shape. Which, that stuff matters, but if you don't have a road map for development, or if you have that road map and the public can't see it and you don't communicate about your intentions for the active development of the game, you're going to sour some grapes because no one knows what you're doing. Transparency is incredibly valuable and important, especially if you're already taking money to do the work. For as much flack as I give people in the threads for when they're not being fair, they also have plenty of good reason to complain revolving around this.

Kom is just lazy and doesn't know how to code. This project would be much better off in the hands of almost anybody else.

basically a bbooru snapshot from November 2024, since after getting this thing in their hands they couldn't properly to launch it and the upload feature has been broke ever since.
