Yes I love being strung along for a shitshow of NOTHING content and half-truths.

I love Beat Banger as a concept and I'm a big Zoe simp, but I really can't see myself supporting or following this project anymore if it's really just gonna be nothing after nothing.

I was planning on buying the full game (well early access but y'know) on steam sometime soon but if the game is in a questionable state as of now... then I suppose for now I'll hold off...
But to be honest I have no clue what's wrong other than the mods being temporarily down... So a brief explanation would be appritiated

Basically the devs are being very slow and doing really stupid decisions, like changing the UI or controls for no reason or doing minor stuff and undoing it with the level editor to simulate work. The current content update took 10 months to get done, so it's obvious it'll take a few years for chapter 2 to be done. And there is the whole thing of breaking old mods for what amounts to shits and giggles for those unneeded technical updates they keep doing. The mods aren't so much "temporarily" down as the website they had for distributing them has always been shit and slow and had almost nothing on it, so you needed to browse the discord for mods.

Good call on not buying it, I did that mistake a year ago.

Yeah guys lay off. It's Godot... adding a button takes AT LEAST 10 minutes...
If you don't use the prebaked version, code even the UI yourself, and have to make it image hot-swapable.

Oh they added an actual method to it.....maybe an hour.

LOOK. doing an hour of game dev is hard!

This is the UI and bug fix game. I think, we all got it wrong. That's why it's the only thing we see for years in the changelog.

The best and worst thing they could have done is allowing modding to be so easy for this game:
In one hand you get a TON of content through the mods, people who don't know how to program games manage to actually do levels. Sure the animation assets are stolen a lot of times, but it's modding and non-profit individuals, I am willing to be lenient, at the end of the day, it's the mods that keep the game alive.

on the other hand, it is the worst thing they could have done because it reveals just how EASY it is to program a level once the animation is done... meaning everyone knows they are stalling, as there is no way that level took 10 months to be finished: the animation is great, sure, but 7-8 loops of animation, each loop around a second long, are done in around two months if you want them REALLY polished, not ten.

There used to be less asset stealing before, in the beta version, because you couldn't implement video files. At best, people were reusing each other's existing art that they'd made for Beat Banger mods. That includes recoloring, reskinning, making other modifications, etc.

Another upswing to the modding support is that it helped build a community up for the game. But as we've seen, just because people want to support the game and like making things and watching what other people make, doesn't mean everything is chill in paradise.

Meanwhile, yeah. Charting the track once you've already got both the art and the music is really the easiest part of the process. It's not a no-thought endeavor, but it doesn't take all that long compared to more freeform endeavors like drawing animation frames and creating music. Think about how once they had the track set, and most of the animations made, Patreon had a playable, but unfinished version of the level in their hands very quickly.
