My review on Become a Rock Star
Story:
I like the concept of the story, a young man wanting to start fresh and create a group to be a star. After finished playing the story and explored multiple endings, I have to say the story was good to say the least, not top notch writing but still enjoyable. There are good moments I enjoyed but I also feel like there something missing, like a final piece of a puzzle to make it whole.
Here are the good elements I'd like to point out throughout the story. The characters are done well. I can't say to all the characters, but there are enough characters that keeps me intrigued and vested, like Jacob, Julia, Lisa, Jane, and Jade. I really enjoyed it whenever the MC is spending time with them.
The drawbacks of story in my opinion is the band's growth development.. While I do like their chemistry building and bond, their way to be a 'super' star was a bit underwhelming. In the story, the band had only performed twice. Two events, that's it! And next thing you know they got offered by a major record label. I wish there's more struggle with their journey, I'm sure it would make the story more compelling.
Another missed opportunity for me I'd like to highlight is the MC's siblings. Being the youngest out of all 5, I really wish they would tell more about them, what was it like growing up with them and why the MC hated most of them. I honestly would at least expect some bad blood between them but no. Even when all of them come together again after so long, they are all seems to be cool with one another without any context or explanation. Despite of all the reasons, I really glad there were moments of them being together.
Characters:
Most characters look great, facial and body wise. Most girls aren't super busty like they have plastic surgery on it. The MC's face could have use some improvement. Both his bothers and even his father are handsome. Even on the ending, his face looks even worse. What kind of a glow up is that? Even other characters looks good years later.
I want to highlight the characters I believe it deserves. Mainly their characteristics.
Julia, the best sister anyone could hope for. A caring woman who always puts others before herself. She's the only sibling that respects and support MC's ambition. She even willing to be a wingwoman to MC for getting a girl.
The band, starting with Jacob. What more could you ask for? Good sense of humor, always supported the MC and have his back and his character development changed for the better. Lisa, sweet, caring, and genuine girl. Jade, quiet emo girl. She's genuinely good, she just needs someone to open up her door to the world.my only wish is to have an ending with her alone. It's just not possible unfortunately.
Jane, for me the best looking girl out of bunch. I enjoyed her romance the most.with the flashbacks of her and MC in their teenage years add so much depth to their chemistry.
Sound and Music score:
I don't like to compare to another AVN but that thought always occur to me when I play this game since it is based on the same theme, music. Of course I'm talking about 'Melody'.
The background music is good, it fits with the vibe and scene most of the time. But whenever they play instruments, rehearsing, or performing, it's always that same damn soundtrack that keep playing over and over. It can get really repetitive. I wish they take Melody's music as an inspiration and make it their own. I know it's easier said than done but I think it would really take this game to new height.
Verdict:
Overall, I do like Become a Rock Star. It has some memorable moments, wholesome moments, a little rollercoaster of emotions, and lovable characters. It also has some flaws here and there but it's nothing major and can easily be overlooked. and I still had good times playing the game.
8/10
