VN - Ren'Py - Completed - Become a Rock Star [v1.01] [Mr Jet]

Well. Here we are at the end of the story, and i've been wanting to leave a rating for a while. A while because it took me forever to go through the last release albeit very short. I found it so boring that i had a hard time to click on.

Ok, my overall rating after a couple of years of this VN which was one of the first i played and one of those who got me entralled with the genre.

First of all the positive. The models are top notch. Even after this few years they stay in the upper tier of Ren'Py games. The scenes are well cared, not super long but done well and with a good sense of estetics, which deserves good praises. Also, good taste for women. The characters of this game are among the most universally beautiful ladies i've seen around this site. You can like some more and some less, but it's hard not to find them all gorgeous. Such a feature is not as common as one may imagine when you can just draw women as hot as you please.

Unfortunately, to me, the positive aspects of this game end here.

For the rest, thinking back to the story, it's all so bland and boring. I think a good meter to evaluate the quality of a VN is to imagine it without the porn scenes. Would you still like it? Is there even anything left? In this case i would say: no, there is not much left.

The story is way too flat and simple. Literally nothing happens. There is no drama, no challenge, no downfall, no obstacle. Literally, nothing.

It would be easy to critic the last release, which was utterly short and eventless and it took forever to be completed, but i prefer not to. I can simpatize with an inspiration that runs dry or a motivation that falls short. There is nothing more human.

But unfortunately, the last release is just the topping. Thinking back to the whole story every single plot get dropped almost immediately.
MC father is determined to screw MC's music career? Nope, he changes his mind literally the day after.
An ex GF is back in MC life to add drama and rivalries? Nope, she is like "fuck it, MC's doing well, i'll peacefully go away".
There is a shady rival band? No problem, they suck at playing and they screw themselves the second time MC meet them.
A producer want to screw the band out of spite? No problem, talk 5 minutes with his father.
There is a weird naked feline? He's just a weird naked feline. (cit.)

What's left? MC gets a hot girlfriend, he starts a band, number 2 gigs and he gets a supercontract with the best producer in town and world success the day after. THE END.

In short, this game doesn't deliver. As simple as that.

I would have liked to give it 2 stars but it wouldn't have been fair because of the technical quality of this game.

I kind of enjoyed this game with the whole being in a rock band theme and getting famous story line.

Unfortunately it feels kind of deflated as you progress. There is no real feeling of excitement when they play a couple of gigs which kind of let's the overall theme down a bit. More scenes and new songs for the gigs would have made them much better.

The dialogue was really wooden and stilted for a large part of the game before seeming to become more fitting for the scenes. I would redo some of it if I was the dev as it detracts from the overall mood - which is a shame.

I didn't like playing the main guy - he is so fugly brrr...and would have loved to play as Lisa or Jade instead. the music also got a bit boring as the same songs were used all the way through, but the renders were fairly good.

Overall it was still good fun and appealed to me as i like games where you are in a rock band. i would have loved more band content and the gigs just seemed a bit short, still a fairly good game.

Loved the game so far, the characters are hard to choose from so I played all and settled on Jane ans Selina as the best endings. the only parts that I was not happy with was the Emma story, as I fell for her right away and there never was a real ending for the get back together. but the story on a whole was great

It's mostly fine. The animations are...fine. The renders are pretty good. There's a diverse enough cast of women, and their personalities are...fine. The plot is all right, although I wish there was more emphasis on the development of the actual band. I do give it points for punishing cheating to a degree, although the way it does so feels kind of contrived. Still, it's a net positive.

The problem is the MC. He looks like a skinny douchebag, which is bad enough, and he really doesn't have anything to offer personality-wise. But worst of all, he is absolutely a fucking creep. He has no sense of boundaries and is only vaguely concerned with what the women in his life actually want. He is exactly the kind of guy that led women and sympathetic bartenders to coin the term "angel shot". But the thing is, he's not supposed to be: he's supposed to be this suave dude with the typical elephant cock who gets all the girls. Instead, he's exactly the kind of person that any woman who has ever been accosted in a bar - which is to say, literally all of them - would know well enough to avoid, but he's rewarded anyway because these games are obviously wish fulfillment. Also, anyone who repeatedly says "Take that!" during sex should be forced to go home with blue balls.

Really, it's fine overall, but it's plagued by what is easily one of the worst MCs you'll come across.

BARS has left the Top G in a bittersweet state. When the Top G first played this game it was one of the Top G's favourites. Alas playing the game from start to finish going on the Lisa/Jade route, the game has some underlying problems that holds this game back from being truly great.

The biggest thing in the Top G's opinion that holds this game back is the writing and dialogue. It is clear that the dev is not a native speaker of english which is fine but the Top G implores that non-native speakers work with a native speaker to ensure that dialogue comes off as natural. The writing suffers from the lack of proper translation of the idea into english text, the essence is captured but the execution is flawed. However the Top G can look past most of this.

The general story and LI (that the Top G chose) are done well enough to have a compelling story about the MC upstart band, with a decent resolution. The length was nice enough not too long, not too short and Top G can appreciate the dev taking liberties to skip some mundane parts of the story that would have dragged on otherwise. The Top G really did enjoy the charm and endearment in the ending of the game, was really nice to see the characters older and achieve their goals with a nice happy ending. Top G would have liked it to be a little more fleshed out though,on the Lisa/Jade path you see nothing going on with the MC's family and some of the other characters.

Top G will sum up with the renders and models, and the Top G can safely say the game still looks really good (the start of the game is showing its age though) and the models are all within the Top G's taste. The Top G's noticed a lot of complaints about the MC's looks and the Top G must disagree, he looked fine in the Top G's opinion.

All in all the Top G does very much recommend this to his hustlers, and looks forward to the dev's next project (hopefully they take the dialogue and writing to the next level)

One of the best porn games there are with extremely good renders, exquisite sex scenes (and plethora of them) and good story. Everything here is either good or great but never average or below. There are plenty of choices here and many women to choose from and there is harem path (which is a plus in my book) so we're not locked out of content just to make us replay the game. Even so there is so much stuff to do here and so many women to fuck that it's impossible to see everything in one playthrough and the game is vert replayable.

Basically this game has it all and every person should be satisfied. There are hot milfs here as well as teens, red-heads, brunettes and blondes and in general it's an extremely well polished gem of a game.

It's been a long time I've been waiting for the ending of this visual and it's so amazing

I played this game at the beginning when Jane was the MC's sister and for other reasons Julia ended up becoming the MC's sister replacing Jane. It seems the incest was avoided for reasons I suspect was patreon who at the time was suspending incest games. So I waited to do this review until the final version since the dev had said he was about to finish the game and for personal reasons he ended up putting it on hold for about 1 year and a few months and finally an almost finished version.

I'll be very honest, the story of this game is not good, it's boring, you just enjoy certain moments and others end up being inevitable, such as choosing a girlfriend because it will arrive in the middle of the game if you have two or more (Jane, Selina or Anna) you will lose the other half of the content, another thing is also that if you want to see the complete content of the three you will have to play again in each path what it can get tiring. Julia is one of the best female character models and I don't know why the dev avoided her being exploited, this for me ended up becoming uncomfortable because it doesn't make much sense, it's like saying, hey, this girl was not made for you, you would never have her, of course this was not your intention but to build your story but it ended up becoming a little disappointing because the game doesn't offer much what you thought it would, for example, it's a vanilla novel, something created for a certain audience you will not see such fetishes, one of them is incest, who ended up missing in that game.

The only thing that is good about this game are the renderings and animations, but probably after this update I don't doubt very much if there will be others coming soon someone will play this again, I mean, if it's for the sexual content, but if it's for the story and if you or someone else likes it, it'll probably come back, but I don't. It lacked a story that could hook the player, maybe a forbidden relationship between the MC and Julia could have saved the game but that's my opinion. My last criticism, I didn't like that ending and it felt too vague.

I checked this game only recently so i wasnt bothered long update pause discussed in thread above. Overall very decent game. Sure, there are some flaws, but it seems complete now and polished enough. I like it.

Also, even dev said he dropped idea of use cheat points, but i think they still can be salvaged in v1.0. Just add 1 slide where MC, shows his attitude by this hidden score, get cheated on Lisa and fall off on "nostalgic ending" in fathers office.

But it s just thing to note. If game in 1.0 just gets more polishes and fixes it is fine by me.

Waiting for more in future

I have been a fan of this game since the start.

Pros:
Punishes harem building?
Renders and animations are of high quality and very good.
Female characters have realistic bodies and very pretty faces.

Cons:
MC look like a short and skinny dude with duck face and awful haircut, yet he gets all the girls. and also his personality is non existant and hes the typical guy that everyone hates and yeah he got zero game.
Sex scenes with main li are very vanilla
Story overall, text and dialogues is very bad
Lack of humor
Lack of choices/replayability (aside from choosing different LI)
Story is really non existent and theres no fun aside of lewd scenes

Overall, good looking romance game with hot lewd scenes and terrible writing. all 3 stars come from render quality.

People say there was 2 years of no update? I don't know i honestly forgot about this game. Well if that is true then good job i guess. Also this latest update 0.99 is meh anyway.

The plot of Become a Rock Star feels eerily like if the HBO show Entourage had been about making it as a rock band instead of becoming a movie star. It has a lot of the same charm of Entourage, being about friends overcoming challenges together and taking time to celebrate their successes, but I also feel it has the same weakness of being predictable and boring at times.

The plot mapping didn't help this feeling. I found no real choices other than which girl I wanted to be in a relationship with and what I wanted to name the band. I also found, when I replayed the game with different love interests, that nearly every setting and piece of dialogue is identical for every romance. At one point, the story tries to heighten the stakes and put a character's life in mortal danger, but I found I couldn't be moved to care because the outcome was predictable and I didn't feel attached to the characters.

For the characters themselves, Become a Rock Star has a lot of beautiful models and a few spicy sex scenarios with them near the beginning of the game. However, I can't help but wonder if it took on too many romantic interests, and perhaps that's the reason why each character's dialogue is nearly identical and inconsequential to the story? Still, it's still a lovely cast.

Overall, I wouldn't steer anyone away from this story because many of my points may come down to my personal tastes, but I do wish Become a Rock Star had had either taken more risks in its plot or offered more branching/consequences in the story to give me more engagement.

Writing is bad, dialogue is bad, girls are boring. It feels like it was written by someone with no real social skills who thinks they're a lot smarter than they actually are. MC is an ugly dildo.

Edited this review for final release of 1.0 from 0.9 but won't change much. Take this as a constructive criticism.

Premium: Renders and animations are nearly perfect. It can alone get this game nearly 5 stars. If you are in for the scenes, one of the best.

Good: Girl variety. Girls are gorgeous. You get punished for manwhoring.

Average: Script and plot. Seriously, the appealing conflict of the story is easily resolved. There is a over the top surprise mid story to stir up some tension but it was meh. Also most of the girls seem one-dimensional as the days pass you meet new people but you barely know them. Love interests feel indifferent from side girls to be honest: Always casual sex, eroticism and romance lack.

Bad: MC is slick-haired, too skinny fit for a young adult but portrayed as a hunk by females because of his big dick. Bad writing and dialogue. Casual convo and dirty talk are all filler and boring after a point. (Lack of kinks may be a negative for certain people). I am sorta play it for story, lewd content are bonus kinda VN enjoyer so this doesn't cut it for me.

The game's title is nearly nonexistent in the story. What people expect from a title such as "Become a Rock Star"? Struggles of a young musician: as an amateur musician myself i expected much more from that. I took interest in this VN and got excited. You know nightlife changes people. It changes relationships between families, friends and band members. There are drugs, booze, prostitution, violence tied to all of it. I expected this mansion boy to toss unto the wall of small time rock band struggle into the nightlife, but i was wrong. All of this drama potential is just wasted i guess, for a couple more romance options. There are lack of character development also (both physically and mentally). MC is the same slick haired mansion boy, standing out from other band members, acting and behaving, looking same as before. Also there were a lot of drama and additional conflict potential but wasted. All and all the game feels like a dating sim, with a rock band as a side gig. You don't feel like playing a rockstar wanna be. Main LIs chosen for long term romance are unrelated to MC's current predicament on the path to becoming a rock star except Lisa. I guess longevity of this project and lackluster character writing at the beginning combined with Dev's fault at designating LIs at the start led to better written characters becoming flings or nonromanceable, while we get to end up with average gals unrelated to the main conflict and story.

Still this game deserves objectively a 4 star rating for the visuals and effort.

But here is the problem, I have an issue with a certain thing that I want to rant about and lower the review score to 3. So here we go.

Good premise at the start but due to bad development decisions and bad plot development, a lot of the potential seems wasted.

Wow this is another gem.

The story that revolves around MC Ambition to the rockstar and his relationship with other character really flesh out.

I love how the story really feels dramatic and have build and not feel forced.

This game is very recommended to play for the story of a man journey to become a rockstar. The happy,sad,inspiring, (and horny lmao) moment truly feels good in this VN

I ended up really loving this VN. The characters are great and memorable. The story is engaging and well-written. It has a lot of heart. My only real issue with this VN is that whenever you reject a girl and you are being monogamous, you almost never get to say that you are in a relationship and instead it comes across rather harshly. I would still enjoy getting to know these characters without having to fuck them, and I also don't want my character to sound like an asshole suddenly for no reason.

Pros:
The story and backstory of the characters is very interesting and well written
It has multiple branches for multiple playthroughs
The "art" (character models, background, animations, etc.) is very good


The music is good, but only instrumental (no singing)

Very good visually. And the whole band and rock theme is fairly rare which is great. I like the options of girls and the kind of hoped for but unexpected threesomes. Those at least for me puts the cherry on the top. Fun that the girls not happy about MC being a whore, add to the replayability.

Honestly a grateful game I love the characters and the depth in which they are made, I love the backstory and the beautiful renders. I hope that this game gets the proper attention and recognition it deserves.
