Ren'Py - Abandoned - Ben X Slave Quest [v0.05e] [Newman&Akanoes]

The art is definitely the best part of the game, but that doesn't mean it's only good because of that. First of all, why 4/5 ? This is a 5/5 game, but due to it's slow development it's a 4/5, when they complete it, it will most likely get all stars for me, but for now as a demo, it would only receive 5 stars if they had this much content by 2018.

Pros : Art - best art style in an adult Ben 10 parody game, very stylized and unique, great scenes and compositions

Story - above average, it's not too dumb and honestly nobody expects more from a parody game

Music - pleasantly surprised, enough variety, love the hip hop tracks, it still has a couple tracks that most adult games have due to being copyright free

Gameplay - balanced and intuitive, not archaic to the point where you need a guide, but the addition of a better quest tracker would be nice

Extra : I expect more Gwen scenes and can't wait for the extra 2 girls, I hope the devs will get back to the project...with full force (get the reference, if not "nade out"), by that I mean I hope the game gets finished by the end 2022 at the very latest.

Damn, this game is really, really good!

It has good, stylized art, very decent dialogue, a surprisingly compelling story, some actual gameplay and UI/UX that has at least some though put into it.

So why 1 star?

Well, there's just one teeny-tiny catch. Okay, it's actually a huge one. A deal-breaker, even. It's abysmally slow development. This thread was created in early 2017, it's already 2020 and the game is maybe 15% complete with only a couple of scenes, and the last update was over a year ago, despite dev's assurances that it's not abandoned. Sure, whatever, but I'm pointing out that realistically we will never see it completed unless something about dev's productivity changes.

Such a shame, honestly.

Breaking news, the year is 2021 AD: the 0.05 update took 1 year, 10 months & 11 days, or 681 days to roll out.

Early 2023 edit: oh look, it got slapped with the [Abandoned] tag because of how long the mythical 0.06 takes. I can not recommend wasting even half an hour of your time on an unfinished game, and this game is never going to be completed.

Has a decent amount of content, but can foresee it getting better. Art is exactly to my taste, and the corruption elements are great as well. Although not much is in the game so far, so much effort has been put into the game, and I can really see the potential, really hope the devs don't drop it.

Teaser game, characters act how the plot demands them to and usually the plot demands them to act completely idiotic to avoid having to put too much art in the game and actually give fans what they want.

Don't waste your time or money.

Really good art and a base that shows a lot of promise. Not a whole lot of content and a bit of a grind at times but certainly one to watch. One thing for the developers to note, had a bit of trouble navigating the Plumber HQ and some areas of the house. Could use some signage or arrows in the UI.

While (at the time of my writing this review) there has yet to be much story development, you can tell that there has already been a LOT of work done on the general framework of the game. Not only are the player interactions hot, but the girls are as well!

Side note: Although wardrobe capabilities haven't been implemented as of yet, I can tell you (from peeking into the developer tools) that there's a lot to be excited for!

For the small amount of content available so far, it is an amazing piece of work. The art is very unique and well drawn. The writing is not too bad either. It does capture the essence of the characters in the show for fans. There may not be any actual battling incorporated right now and there may be some bugs that need to be worked out, but there is a lot of potential for a work that has been released. My only complaint is that the releases are taking way too long to come out and they could update faster, but things take time and if they had more support, perhaps they could speed production. I have been a long fan of this game since the demo and I am glad that development is finally starting to pick up.
