Depends on your goal. If it's to make money, you should probably study the market and see what the most popular games here have in common (probably a male MC, mutliple women/harem, RenPy visual novel game loop, good 2D or 3D art, competent writing, frequent updates, etc.). But if you just want to make a game you yourself would like to play, then you can ignore all that. Predicting the market is difficult at the best of times, and no one's figured it out yet, so chasing after market trends can easily turn into a fool's errand.
My humble advice to you is to develop your game for yourself. That's the best way to avoid burnout, and to make something that'll come off as authentic and fun to play. Otherwise you risk wasting time on a project that has no guarantee of ever becoming successful (and keep in mind the odds are heavily stacked against you - most adult games don't make any money).
Many games here end up abandoned because their devs were after $$$ first and foremost, and they ditch their games when support fails to materialize. Don't be like that - make the game for yourself, and even if it 'fails' financially you'll have had fun developing it, and will probably finish it as well.
