I apologize, not sure if this fits here or not, wasn't sure what thread it was best for, but I was wondering if there were any suggestions to make sure you are extra safe when downloading things from sites like this. I know there is always the potential of risk.

Whilst the uploaders do their best to virus check files before uploading it never hurts to check yourself as well So Antivirus which you should have anyway would be a requisite .On the privacy side if you are really concerned then a good vpn should do the trick of masking your home ip address but that's really a decision for yourself to make

If you are worried about virus the easiest option might be using Windows Sandbox or some other VM. The only issue is that it's tricky to get that hardware accelerated graphics so it will depend on the game

Here is what I always suggest:

- if you don't run this already you should definitely reconsider, it's worth its weight in gold.
A good VPN ( is widely regarded as the most safe and secure but that's up to you).

Make sure you read the notes in the OP when you're downloading something, some games do weird stuff like phone-home and you may have to block the game in your firewall (or just not download it).

Some common sense goes a long way too. If you see a link to a game that you know is 5gb in size but it's 100mb and a .EXE file, then don't run it - things like that.

What's with the uptick in these questions in the threads lately? All of a sudden, every porn addict and their brother are asking this question these past couple of weeks. Is this some kind of alternative advertising technique to get AV brand awareness up?

There are only two things you need:
  1. Windows Defender (or some other basic AV software)
  2. Common Sense
If you want something a little more, RPDL 's post would round out your needs.

RPDL's suggestions are good, I use ublock origin + , almost never have a problem with any of these download sites. Matter fact I'm surprised there's so much talk here about malicious files, out of the 30+ years I've been on this planet, I've never seen a less-virus-frequency era than the current one, including shady sites. Maybe it's the types of game? I dont play any of the cartoon anime ones so maybe those are hosted in sketchy places? I dunno...

Both are viable routes, it's kinda like sex in the real world.

You can either be judicious about who you fuck and careful in those interactions and go condomless,

Or you can triple up rubber max protection and fuck the dirtiest skeezies from the filthiest areas

I tend to opt for the first path on the internet, since it's usually pretty obvious if somethings not good - and I don't mean doesn't look professional, I mean ulterior motives.
