Hi there,

i have some props, interconnected with cables and some other props using small tubes and stuff like that.

In general the cables etc. are made of 10 to XYZ seperated parts which can be bend individually, but how smoot i try, the whole prop does not look lying down e.g. in a circle.

Is there a know best practice or even a tool for bending, lying, posing ... cables and similar things?

Thanks

The best practice is to use a program that isn't shit.

With Blender you can define Bezier curves in 3d and use them to deform geometry. Makes what you're asking for trivial. But the only way to get them into Daz Studio is to export as Obj. You lose the flexibility of spline-based deformation and are stuck with rigging it up with bones yourself. Apparently Iray just got "fibers", and Daz is habitually years behind the latest Iray update, so good luck waiting for it to improve.

There's a few different ways to do it in Blender. I still use the "old" way, because the newer way (with geometry nodes) doesn't have good UV support yet.

It's easy, but obviously you need some familiarity with Blender. I can walk you through it if you need help. Or also there's plenty of Youtube tutorials about making ropes. Just remember that 1 meter in Daz equals 100 meters in Blender, for when you export.

Using Daz only, if those cables are already rigged, then smooth the weighting of vertices or redo the weighting. You should be able to get a nice enough result. Or redo the bones structure. It's way more simple than it looks.
But definitely agree with MidnightArrow, you always need a 3D modeler handy.

Either use mesh grabber rotations or just rig a cylinder?

Copy/paste as many bones as you need:

Thank you very much for your advices.

1. i tried what was show in the video....ok, honestly... i just don't tried to mark more than one bone.
Shit, when marking more, posing is much more easier.

2. I will give the mesh grabber plugin a try.

Ay :LUL:
Mesh grabber was more for quick mesh fix (if that was the problem).
