Biggest aspect lacking most in adult games?

I would like to see more supporting characters like Liam from Acting Lessons. The MC feels so disconnected from the world, only interacting with women or people that help sleeping with other characters. It would be nice to have characters that don't have anything to do with the sex part of the game. I feel like people focus too much on the Adult side of Adult Games.

I think one of the most interesting points made in this thread is that the potential/actual sex partners can also continue in the game as the "Liam", even if you decide (and are given the ability to decide) you don't want them as a sex partner.

These days there are umpteen game developers jumping on the adult game bandwagon hoping to make a living with cookie cutter characters and Honey Select renders. It's a result of their inexperience with porn and their assumption that if they show a pussy being penetrated it's enough to make money. As time goes by, most game creators will either wise up and craft games tailored to specific fetishes with a solid plot, likeable characters and replay value or they'll move on to other things.
It's just natural to go this way, customers are discerning when it comes to their money and they won't invest anything in a game they feel the creator just made to milk a trend.
Look at The Twist, Man of the House, Snow Daze, Deviant Discoveries, Big Brother, etc. They are all over the place when it comes to fetishes, but they have something in common: their creators invested time and passion into creating them and it shows. Hence the patronage. So yeah, if you think ripping some pics off of imagefap.com and writing a plot in 10 mins will make money for you, think again. You ask for our money, we ask for your passion. It's only fair.

Story of course, but since this one is slowly getting more attention lately, I would say two other things:

1. Optimized gameplay: okay this one only goes for games with actual gameplay, but too often I see games with management, walking, shopping sections made clumsy by unnecessary menus, confirmations, buttons all over the screen, no keyboard or mouse support and - my worst enemy - needing to click 10 times in multiple places every time you need to do a different action.

2. Fetishes: completely personal, but I feel most games made now tend to be very vanilla, I would like to see developers using more creativity, even if they don't want to add extreme stuff.
For real... Vanilla games are sooo boring unless the writing is really top notch. Acting Lessons and DeLuca are as vanilla as they come, but those two subvert your expectation early on. You go in trying to fap to deviant shit but quickly find out that its one of those special games with an interesting plot and characters that feel real. I can let go of my dick and go along for the ride for games like that. Its kind of like reading a book or watfching a flick. Depraved Awakening also has a really interesting plot, but that game actually has some nice fetishes.

My absolute least favorite games are vanilla dating sims, especially with the typical awkward virgin school boy MC.

Good writing, and detailed, descriptive and erotic sex scenes (i mean sex scenes are main reasons why we play these games, so i hate when i finally unlock sex scene and there is few sentences of dialogue an thats it), there are so much games in this site which lacks both (most of them), i dont expect devs to hire professional writers to work on games, but there are few devs which hired good amateur writers and it really shows. There are games on this site with good premise and story, but writing is so bad i have dropped them, on the other hand there are few of them exact opposite which i still play despite not so good story, because writing is good.

-A Story.
And a
-Realistic Progression between characters.

That is what i am personally missing in a lot of games :)

Most devs are just interested in creating a simple fuck-fest, and I can't blame them because most people on sites like this only care about H content.
Have you played any of our games?

An identity. Too many devs concern themselves with catering to the masses instead of making something that they enjoy. Make the game you yourself would want to play. The players will respond in time.
Uh, none of our games cater to the masses If that were the case we would have made a fuck your own adventure game like Milfy City or Man of the House. Ptolemy writes what he wants and really does not care what others want.

Eh, I'm perhaps in the minority but I don't really care for animations even if they are at the standard of say Milfy City. Every time I see a game with an animation, all I think is how much I'd rather see 50 or 100 extra renders.
To do animation like Milfy City you need there budget too.

All games your team develops are great, and i too really dont understand peoples obsession with few second loop animations in this kind of games, if a wanted animations there are tons of better full time animated porn on internet both japanese and western.

Cutting out needless stuff.

Lots of games have elements which really adds nothing to the game at all and only seems to draw attention away from the story and characters. As an example, The gift Reloaded just got a new update, and I was forced to start over (which I don't mind, the game is pretty good) in order to play the new content. The game is mostly linear, but that is okay, because the story is interesting. However, for some reason the dev pushed a superficial sandbox mode into the game. In my eyes, this is completely useless. You don't really do anything in the sandbox mode, other than spend a couple (like 2 or 3) days raising your corruption of certain characters, which could just as easily be done in a linear setup, and then the sandbox becomes utterly useless.

Dreams of desire had a bit of the same issue, where it tried to add a weird sandbox'ish feature half-way through the game. It didn't do anything, other than make me waste more time than what was needed. Luckily this was only present for a brief time in the game and didn't show up again later, if I recall correctly.

I get it, sometimes you have an idea and work on it for a long time, and you have a hard time letting it go. Still, streamlining is an important thing to do, to make sure your players don't waste their time without reason.

We do a few animations but only if they make sense. But we do them as a final touch if we have time and got the main renders done. Hard to believe Ptolemy has been at it two years now. The story comes first for Ptolemy and the rest of us. He always told me he like characters with sharp edges. Haily's Story our newest game people are trying to rush us into the future relationship but storywise we are nowhere near that yet. It's hard to find the story based fanbase on this site. Seen too many devs fold under patreon pressure of where is the sex. We would love to use more custom characters if we can find someone to design them.

Not a fan of that either a VN does not need sandbox elements. Noticed a lot of games switching midway through. Reaks of desperation for more subs. Because the masses want sandbox games.

I'd like to see dev's stop having their characters fuck while in a pool/hot tub. I've tried this IRL and let me tell you it just doesn't work and is really uncomfortable for everyone involved. Any time I see one of these scenes I can't help but be reminded of just how not fun it was. Would be nice to see dev's take notice of this and reposition the characters somehow so that their genitals are out of the water. It's a small thing I know but I personally find it immersion breaking.

Something that I see mentioned a lot in this thread is branching paths. As someone who is creating a game with major differences depending on which of the 3 (now 5) main paths you choose, I have to say it is a pain in the ass.

With regards to creating a story I wholeheartedly agree. Too many games are little more than fleshlights. It's something to jack off to but afterwards there is nothing there for you to enjoy. So you close the game after you nut instead of wiping yourself off to see what else this game has to offer.

I will say though that a new wave of story focused games are arising. Melody, Acting Lessons, Lexi (shameless plug). After the success of Summertime Saga brought more attention to this side of development. I was surprised to see fairly famous NSFW artists jumping on board the AGD train like Boobsgames,David Goujard (old hat), sadi. Freaking Grandpappy Akabur and Sunsetrider7 are now pioneers in something that will undoubtedly break into the mainstream soon.

But if I could impart any one thing to new devs it would be this; Make believable people.

So if you create a character, don't spend all the time on how they look. Take some time to think about who they are. People can tell the difference between a fuckdoll and an actual character. The sexdoll lies there limply after a good time. A character continues the experience after sex. Just because you fucked, doesn't mean everything has changed and you are finished with this character. Give the player a reason to want to keep fucking rather than move on like a heroin addict looking for his next fix.

That's the problem with developing multiple paths. Either you spread out alot of development across many characters per update, or just focus on one or two in order to progress their story in a meaningful way. So much to do, so little time to do it.

Look at Fate of Irnia. That game has like 12 paths or something and it progresses about as fast as you'd expect. It's a shame because that game hits all my kinks.

I think there is something to take away from how Our Fate is doing things. The different paths are almost entirely done with dialogue modification. I think even the dialogue is largely the same, but there are points of internal monologue intersprsed in the text that colors the scenes in a entirely new light. Its pretty amazing how its done actually.

Another good way to do "branching" without separate branches is to limit scenes by stat achievements. One example: if you have 5 lust points with Irina she'll do X, if you have 7 she'll do X & Y, and if you have 10 she'll do X, Y, & Z.

Another way to do it: you and all the NPCs have all the same scenes for 90% of the game, with the only different "branches" being the erotic scenes, triggered by stats. In other words, if you have 10 points on Irina at end of a party, it opens up a sex scene with her, but if you have 10 points with Mary instead, she's on/under/bent over the table.

Alternately, using this same idea, options, like going with this person or that person. With this person the scene plays out in this way, with that person the scene goes that way, and then you're back to the main story while having two players get there having had two completely different experiences.

That is to say, not all branches have to go off on their own. It's best to keep them tied in to the main plot and simply create optional content that people can play through.
