RPGM - Completed - Black Souls II [v1.13 Official translation] [Eeny, meeny, miny, moe?]

Now that the final DLC has dropped, the game is complete and the story has concluded.

Black Souls 2 is a direct sequel to Black Souls 1. For many people asking, yes, DO NOT SKIP THE FIRST GAME.

Black Souls 2 is a pretty solid HRPGMaker game. Quite a surprise actually considering it uses a lot of free/preset/bought assets. The developer makes use of these premade assets really well and does make the game very enjoyable even though I've seen the exact same sprites and tiles many times already. The artstyle, as well, isn't really anything to right about (except I'm pretty sure many fans actually ended up liking the artstyle, myself included). What Black Souls 1/2 offer is its very interesting story, backed up with incredible amounts of lore and references that makes the whole BS world feel alive and engaging.

The gameplay is pretty straight forward. Turn-based RPG battle mechanics. I have issues with how fast the text in battle goes but I got used to it as I continued playing.

The porn content can be a hit-or-miss for many people because of the artstyle, as I've previously mentioned before. Nevertheless the scenes are plenty and they tackle a surprising amount of fetishes.

All in all, this has to be one of my favorite series to date. And I do hope that many more people can experience and appreciate the games.

Excellent atmosphere, unique gorgeous artstyle, a must-play even ignoring its H aspects.

This sequel to Black Souls 1 has improved in any aspect including welcomed Quality of Life additions; while it may still feel dated, I'd heavily recommend playing the first game first before diving into this.

Among the best H-games I've ever played.

At first glance, it might seem to lack originality as it bases items and mechanics off of From Software's Souls series, but fear not, it is simply the foundation of what was built. There is plenty of originality and it adopts key elements from the series in its story telling and metroidvania-esque open world.

Story
It's interesting and can get very confusing, especially depending on what way you progress. You will not have a good picture of what's going on without replaying and/or looking through the discussion of this thread, among other things. The story is a jigsaw puzzle you must piece together, but it's far more interesting than your run-of-the-mill h-game.

Art
For some it might be a turnoff as it's not exactly clean nor 'standard' to how 2D girls are usually drawn, anime styled or not. However, I feel the art adds to the dark aesthetic of the game and have come to appreciate it as much if not more than that 'standard'. In other words, it grows on you and it's not exactly bad looking in my opinion.

Audio
Of course, there is a lot of the stock RPG Maker sounds, but the selection of music is pretty nice and I sometimes like to come back to it. It helps the atmosphere of the game.

Gameplay, Length, and Replayability
If you played the first Black Souls, you'll notice mechanics have changed a bit. I can't say on whether it's better or worse but I do feel I act less tactically compared to its predecessor. You're free to explore into certain areas although some are harder than others, but you're not hard-locked from them, similar to how a typical Souls game operates. I will say though that if you're going for certain endings, the requirements are..... fragile. I don't like how one misstep can lead to you having to redo the run. If you're going in blind, there is practically a 0% chance you'll get the true ending. It's actually fairly annoying and necessitates the usage of a guide.
The game took me about 30 hours to beat, but it should take anyone a bit less than that depending on how much you want to faff about. I find it fairly replayable to go through the many paths you could've taken.

The Best H-Game i've ever played hands down, the story, characters, plot, gameplay, the world-building, the art. everything is perfect, it has the feel of the old prequel but more immersive stories and character.

A great sequel to the previous game with improvements in gameplay. A very interesting continuation of the story with plot twists and drama. A ton of new girls and 7 different endings. A big world to explore and make choices.

Heh, now that was one hell of an experience. A bloody good successor, and just like the first game: the story is the cake, with porn as the icing. Thoroughly recommend this game and the prequel. Not every day one gets to find hidden gems such as these.

This isn't a porn game, it is the GAME with some porn in it. I have a lot to say about BLACKSOULSII, but there already so many detailed reviews that it would be more or less meaningless... so I'll say only one thing:
Better than any Dark Souls game.

TLDR at bottom, but this game is great, please play it.

The combat for the first Black Souls game is easily the best RPGM combat I've ever played and even is straight up great, even for non H-game standards. This game's combat is better in essentially every facet and is a true expansion on the ideas from the original. While you can definitely make the yourself OP if you know what you're doing, it's rather difficult on a first playthrough and there are still bosses that stats don't really matter on and will still require a strategy.

While the combat is great, story and H-scenes are honestly the meat of this game (in my humble opinion) and they both deliver fantastically. The story, while confusing, has an actual, well-defined plot you can follow along with and just so much lore. Learning and piecing together the underlying happenings going on and seeing hidden sides of characters is phenomenal. There is also a great deal of reference to the Cuthulu mythos and various fairy tales (primarily those of the Brothers Grimm) that when you dig into give a new appreciation for the game and how it uses/references them.

H-scenes are pretty darn good. They aren't the pinnacle of porn writing or anything, but they're solid. The characters are likeable and you feel attachment to them, enhancing the these scenes a great deal. The two biggest positives about them are that they're a decent length (not too long or short) and there is a very good variety in both characters and types of scenes.

The only slightly negative thing I could say about it comes down to pure personal preference though I feel I should mention it anyway. In the original Black Souls, you slowly built up a group that you fought and shared you home base with, making you really care about those character. You had to go out of your way to get most of them, and all party members except one were technically optional, so when you did actually add a party member you felt a lot closer. That personal connection was my favorite part of Black Souls I, but it's missing in this game. This isn't necessarily a negative, as a big theme of this game is in how isolated and alone you feel. You're supposed to feel like the very world doesn't welcome you and find said world uncomfortable as well, with the Pledges/H-scenes being short reprieves from this isolation. The game does this extremely well, and again, that's the whole point, but it's definitely harder to be emotionally connected with the characters due to that.

TLDR: Fantastic game, improves upon everything Black Souls I did except for maybe atmosphere, which mainly comes down to personal preference.

I didn't expect much from RPGM, but man, this game lit! More-than-surface-level Cthulhu Mythos, madness, tragedy, and tons of badassery, this is a must-play if you are not fat leftwing Westerners who will be offended because they see beautifully proportioned bishoujos on the screen.
Also Leaf is best girl!

A great game nonetheless if you're into horror games but I very much prefer the first game because I felt a deeper connection with the heroines and when it got to that certain part of the game, it broke me, and that was why I loved it so much. This sequel is still amazing regardless and it still maintains that crippling emotional distress that I love and the world in this sequel is much bigger and deeper too. So many secrets and so many lore to unfold. I really love the dev's games and honestly can't wait for future projects. 11/10 for story and 10/10 for the gameplay (including the well made replayability aspects as well)

One of the best rpg games I have played, it is an evolution of the first game adding mechanics to make it feel different from the previous one, the art was also improved. The history and references to literature give it a magical touch even surpassing its predecessor

Before playing this one, it's higly advised to play Blacksouls 1. In normal playthrough it doesn't matter, but if you go for "true" ending, it's required to know plot of first game.

Game's great. Let's start with gameplay.

It's real RPG game and fighting plays a major role here. Good thing it's done well. Every boss require strategy to be beaten - even the first one in tutorial can one-hit kill you if you're not cautious. Battles can take a long time to play, forces you to use various skills and items you collect during gameplay. I had no troubles with completing the game without any grind, however there are some bosses i couldn't pass through. Not every fight is fair and fun, but mostly it's great and high above average.

There are several classes to choose from, so there is some replayability from mechanical perspective. And you will appreciate this very soon.

Graphics and music: there is much more variety in lands you will visit, and farmore music to hear. Every location is (atleast) well-made and captures spirit of the given place - despite being 2D RPGM game.

English translation is very good. Might be MTL with or without human correction, doesn't matter. It's just good.

There is a lot of woman to have fun with too. Much more than in first game, and there is no chance to get all scenes in one playthrough.

That being said... I don't feel this game is better than first one. There is major difference in climate: BlackSouls 1 world was full of despair and pain, while BlackSouls 2 world is full of insanity. Furthemore, plot in BS1 made better job with guiding you toward your goal. In BS2 i was running around blindly, and if I took wrong direction - the NPC that was meant to direct me further already disappeared. What is worse, i've met almost no girls in first playthrough because one NPC murdered half of world's population - that's straight dickmove and the game didn't indicate at any point it may happen. The way you eventually find Alice is trash aswell.

Rate 5/5. Great successor for BS1 and if you enjoyed first game, it's must play for you.

Art's still a bit iffy but a definite improvement from the first game.
Everything about this game is a direct improvement from its predecessor, which was already a massively enjoyable timesink.

Easily spent a whole week's worth playing the game again and again only to find there was still content that I hadn't touched. Even if you don't like the H-scenes, the challenging gameplay and detail put into the game makes it absolutely worth the time spent playing it.

I've binged this game within the past week (of this review posting) and I've gotta say, this is easily one of the best RPGM games I've ever played. The game has a lot of the pros (and a con) from the first Black Souls title.

Pros:
Improvements, new mechanics, and balancing for combat, increasing the challenge.
While art looks rough, it definitely adds to the game's atmosphere and environment.
Music is (still) pretty damn good, with an even larger library of bopping songs.
Deep and well-written story (just like the first one), continued great lore & characterization.

Mixed:
You have no more companions that can be summoned outside of important battles (personally I'm ok with this, but I know it's a con for some other people since those companions always had their own dialogue for specific bosses)

Con:
Continued use of assets with conflicting art styles (an issue from the first game, it'd be nice if the main artstyle was more prevalent but it didn't take away any of my enjoyment)

This part has more effort, but also even more frustration in it. There is so much places to go, so you could easely miss some of them, or just forget how to go, to some places (after NG+, because you DEFINITELY will be replaying 2 or 3 times).
Also you need to farm alot, to progress (so you should cheat, if time is important for you).
Anyway, sadness, frustration and joy overwhelmed me playing this game, cause of still unique style (for rpg maker games) drama and not bad plot.
Recommended to play and to buy.
PS: Why I don't rate any CGs or H-scenes ? Because I played like a gentleman, to have a better feeling of the world and people in it, not to turn all my attention to porn in it. But anyway, after completing the game (which take me 26 hours for A. B and G endings) I pretty much liked them, and it's very challenging not to get a boner from them.

This game to be frank is a pure gold, it doesn't just have porn but it also have a deep lore and plot, much like MGQ, from the first Black Souls to this one, this game truly have a lot of characterization and well-written plot. True there are some flaw in here and there but so what? Everything have a flaw, nothing is perfect

To you who read this review and contemplating should you download this game or not, I suggest you play the BS 1 first and go to this one. Trust me, it may have crude and simple art and gameplay but if you love a good game that has sex or porn this game will be WORTH IT. Trust me, it truly is

This is a perfect sequel to an already magnificent game. Everything we loved about the first Black souls is here but even bigger and more polished. The only small downside I could find is that you can no longer get more than one ending per lap, which would be pretty useful for collecting CGs.

The first BLACKSOULS game was quite fantastic and felt like nothing else really - broke many tropes of your usual ecchi japanese RPG and left a very good and lasting impression. I rated it 9 out of 10.

The second game? Big step up in all directions. Crayon style art matches the theme of the game PERFECTLY, the atmosphere is immaculate on every location or dialogue. This is probably the biggest RPGM game to date in terms of how well polished and enormous it is. Kinda unbelievable to me still.

Blind first playthrough highly recommended, following with a guided playthrough on NG+ (or if you give up beating the game because of how hard it is; and it really IS pretty fucking hard).

If I could rate above 10 on a scale of 10, this game would have been given an infinity by me.

I don't usually do reviews since I'm not that good at writing them, but I found this game too good not to give it the credit it's due.


Even though I downloaded this game just to have an adult game to waste some time on while waiting for other games to release updates, after about an hour I found myself completely immersed in the gameplay and plot, with getting adult scene just being a secondary objective.



The combat can be an actual challenge that requires strategy and planning, which I don't usually see in adult RPG maker games. However it is possible it easily make your character OP enough to practically one-shot everything in the main story, through farming and buying stat raising items in the Chaos Dungeon if you don't like the combat.


The plot seems simple enough for a fantasy RPG at first, end up in a mad and magical world and need to save the girl while meeting a colourful cast of characters along the way. However it actually has a deep lore that becomes apparent when interacting with some characters or some conditions are met. I found myself searching for secrets, replaying to see other options and searching through forum to piece together what is really going on.

As far as adult scenes go I liked them, there are a lot of characters you can have sex with and you have an option of being loving or just raping them. The art may seem rather crude but I thought it just added to the dark and mad themes of the game.

this game is one of these things you can consider art, that's right, art. The artwork style blends really well whit the events that transpire in the story, and the music makes the player inmerse in the mad world wonderland has become, i find myself whit lack of words to describe this better

every decision you take has heavy consequences that can haunt you or save you in the nick of the moment. And to progress the player must adapt to new ordeals one after another figuring the best strategy to go, this is why from the beggining you already have the basic skill set to dodge, stun and guard the one hit kills the enemies can use on you

even if you shut down all the ero events the plot alone is worth the 5 star rating. Few games can storm and blend a torrent of emotions you will have playing the black soul games, playing as a hero or villain alike
