VN - Ren'Py - Blurring the Walls [v0.5.4v2] [Torimiata]

This still remains to be one of my favourite netorase games. Even though the remake rolled back a lot of the story progress (which I am really annoyed by), I would say that it was worth it.

The increase in the quality of images and even the quality of writing is really noticeable. The scenes which felt flat in the original now have both the beautiful images to back them up and a better writing. The only thing that I don't like about the new artstyle are the "models" of characters during regular dialogue - somehow they look too shiny and artificial. Otherwise, even though I miss the old charming artstyle, this update to it is such a clear improvement that I can't believe anyone really dislikes it - the level of detail is so much higher and female characters are that much more attractive and tantalising. And, this is a bit subjective, but I really enjoy how much focus is given to FMC's butt in the remake - for me, a butt connoisseur, this is an amazing improvement. Please, Torimiata give it eve more focus, I beg of you.

As for the writing, the improvement to it is noticeable too. Some would dislike it because of it being a bit too long-winded, but I really like it. It goes into the nitty gritty of the mc's feeling and emotions. Because of the writing the bond between MC and FMC feels stronger than ever - and that is extremely important in netorase games. I would say that the writing became much spicier during the teasing scenes and the sex scenes than on the original - somehow I feel it so much more now, you can really see how much MC is aroused by the thoughts of Ayumi being intimate with other people and by Ayumi's teasing and actions. And how much Ayumi enjoys teasing him about - how absolutely entranced she is by his fantasies.

One thing, that I had the problem even in the original, is how long some of the slice of life scenes go. And the writing in such scenes feels very anime - with character constantly blushing for no reason. But that is just the style of writing, I am okay with it in general. And it makes the more spicer scenes feel that much more significant.

Another thing I am a bit worried about (though not too much ) is the addition of new characters. It can really take the focus away from the main characters if the dev is not careful. But, I will believe in Torimiata's ability to make these new additions worth it.

So, overall, I think that the remake was worth it. It is a significant improvement to the game and I can't wait for more updates.

it's a real shame that this game showed a lot of promise, but since the remaster it is a shadow of its former self.

what's good:
- the first chapter of this game was and is the hottest chapter. it starts with some beach exhibitionism and ends with a bukkake dream sequence. when you play this first chapter, you think, "oh wow, this game has potential!", but...

what's bad:
- ...the game never lives up to this promise at all! everything grinds to a halt after the opening chapter, starts introducing new characters, and all of the sexual tension is defused by seemingly endless paragraphs of text
- i really can't emphasize enough how longwinded the dialogue in this game is. very simple questions like "are you sure about this?" is broken up into 4-5 separate dialogues, like, "hmmm...", "are you...", "are you sure that i should...", "are you sure about this?" this would be fine if it were part of the dirty talk, but most of the time its about reassuring the bf/gf that this is what they really want - essentially NTS legalese to demonstrate the characters are consenting. just... say it once and move on!
- performance is terrible. it's actually not easy to make renpy perform this poorly. i have no idea what causes the poor performance, and the dev has made slight improvements, but every new update the performance degrades again
- there are weird hitches and pauses everywhere. every scene ends with a fade to black, and then the scene flashes again, before ending the scene. it's just very sloppy renpy timing coding
- after the remaster, the charming 2D art of the pre-remaster game has been replaced with an ultra-generic 2.5D look. if you didn't play the original version this might not bother you, but it's crazy how much this game went from a unique anime-inspired art style to looking like every other AI CG game on the market
- the parallax is poorly implemented. instead of being multiple layers in the image shifting around slightly, it's often one 2D image being stretched unnaturally and leaving artifacts in the image. if this was done for sexy animation purposes, it would be forgivable but instead its just used... everywhere? constantly? why is everyone and everything bobbing and wiggling all the time?

overall i can't recommend the game at all. it's frustrating to watch what was once a good game get worse with every update.

One of my favorite games. I really like how the story flows between the characters and situations. At times there could be less build up as it tends to drag on at times. Over all I am very happy with spending time in the game. Keep up the good work and good work on the re-work.

Blurring The Walls is a perfect name for a game that has blurry images and walls of text.

The in focus images are great so why add another 5 blurry ones...maybe it's to distract from the walls of inane dialogue where one sentence is repeated in 20 different ways.

This is a potentially a great game being brought down by "arty" intentional graphic blurring. I just don't get why anyone intentionally ruins a clear image.

If you can ignore that, the game is looking good so far and I really hope the dev can tone down the blurred images and walls of text.

I really want the dev to succeed in this.

nice game, even if still in its early stages, great drawings, some dialogues are well constructed, still early to confirm more stars, because we are not at a precise point in the story, I could increase my rating with the progress of the story, now I stop at 3 stars

TL;DR = one of those VN, that start great, but then slowly turns into boring. Dev is slowly ruining the game by adding filler.

Story: 2/5
Pros:
+ Story started really great. A guy and his girlfriend are slowly discovering their sexuality. They push their kinks. The girl teases her boyfriend. She teases people around them. She teases their best male friend.
+ If it continued like this, this game would deserve 5/5
Cons:
- Unfortunately dev doesnt know how to progress with story. So dev is slowly adding new side characters.
- Dev also adds sex scenes that totally dont fit into the game. For example: some random maze with crazy lesbian girls. They even wear capes like some goddamned cultists. It just feels weird.
- Basically story doesnt progress anywhere. Only more random stuff gets added.
- New updates really suck. Later parts of the game deserve 0/5

Art and Sex stuff: 2/5
Pros:
+ Renders are usually good.
+ Girls are hot.
+ Some sex scenes have small animations.
Cons:
- One of the biggest flaws of the game: Game resolution and resolution of CG is very small. It feels like going 15 years back into the past.
- Biggest images ingame have only 1000*600 pixels. At the start of the game the dev even warns you that renders are small and if you use fullscreen the images will look terrible.
- Another bad thing is so called image "blur". When dev tried to simulate the girl bouncing on cock and he was lazy to do an animation, he simply blurred the image. Really low efforth. Just one big smudge. It looks really bad.

Gameplay: 3/5
Pros:
+ English is decent.
+ Game has soundtrack.
+ Game has sounds. Like girl moaning during sex.
Cons:
- This game is trying to look like VN with choices, but it is not. It is pretty much Kinetic Novel.
- Choices are meaningless. Choices only change some flavour text. At worst some choices can give you "You dont like NTR, game over".

A perfect visual novel with a lovable girlfriend, a good male friend during an exciting vacation.
I love the slow build up and the romance between Ayumi and Kento (the MC), slowly becoming more daring and peppering their relationship. After meeting up with your childhood friend, yet another teasing girl, and the ever so womanizing best friend Terrace, this is promising to be good!

I have not finished v0.5.2 yet, but so far, well done, love the writing and love the direction the story is going, looking forward for the rest.

v0.5.35 EDIT:

I prefer the original intro to the remake, but there are a lot of improvements. The bus stop scene is a great way to highlight the new animations and shows how Tori's relationship building is a step above other NTS authors. Ayumi's personality still shines. The main problem I have with this VN is that I don't feel aligned with the MC at all (body, demeanor, decision making... you name it). Most of his kink preferences are very passive and submissive, even when making the Strong route choices. Act 2 will reportedly open up more kink options, which will help some readers.

I've been a long time fan and part time supporter of BTW, but the remake has taken it from a 5* to a 3* for me (at least for now). The new animations and high fidelity pictures are nice, but I would immediately return them for a year of new story development. We still have to get through the group shopping trip and toga party just to get back to where we were last year. The changes made to the story and dialogue have been geared toward pleasing Sub-oriented players, and they bleed into the Dom/Strong route in a way that makes everything feel "off" to me. This has left me much less excited to see the upcoming scenes reimagined.


The vibe isn't dominant or strong, it's passive. MC isn't taking control, he's losing control and reveling in that feeling. That makes subs happy, it makes doms chafe. The entire cast on every route seems to be obsessed with Terrace, so buckle up if staring at your bro's 6XL cock isn't a primary fetish. If you love that stuff, you'll also love the updated version. If you don't, you'll be left wondering why a Strong route exists in the game at all.

Graphics are beautiful and hot. Characters are well written and loveable. Story really manages to make you feel as the part of a close group of friends.

Netorase is such a paradox, it's really hard to keep things wholesome when the underlying fetish is jealousy. This is as wholesome as it gets.

Game Play: 2/5 (choices have no damn meaning it should of just been a damn kinetic novel as nothing you do will change the NTR)
Sound: 4/5
Art: 3/5 (at times she looks younger and other times older guess the problem with AI)

With the safe choices selected your character would be at most exhibitionist but it forces NTR making this a kinetic novel with your choices meaning NOTHING. At this point you realize Developer is not giving you a choice it's going to be NTR no matter what so just make it a damn kinetic novel when choices don't matter!

It's not a true Visual Novel as choices don't matter it's actually a Kinetic Novel in disguise. Don't hide what it is and make choices in a game that does not mean anything.

The key point is even if it did not happen is that as MC I should of had an option as I have to stop this... than the realization that it's a trap being played on him just before you can, but as the scene stands now you the MC is a Beta Cuck that was going to let it happen!

This game is fantastic.

The writing is really good. One of the few games where I end up taking my time and reading all the text inside of just skimming through to the good stuff.

The art is really nice, you can tell the backgrounds are AI generated but the characters are really drawn really well.

Some might dislike the slow burn, and I understand, but 5.0.2 fixes a lot of issues I had and I’m looking forward to the next update.

Best NTS game on the site right now and I hope it only gets better.

This is a review for v0.5.2.

Gameplay: It's a kinetic novel as ofcurrent standards. There are choices it seems, but they mostly influence the flow of some scenes, but this new version seems to be attempting to include some semblance of "tags" that are required for some choices/lines to be picked. Not that this is bad or good, it is simply how it is.

Art: I am not artist, but if you're going to use AI art, this is how. There are no apparent mistakes or jarring visual shifts, the girls have SOME inconsistency when it comes to breast sizes/proportions, but even then,a human artist isn't 100% consistent either way. The takeaway is, it is AI art, that you can tell is AI art, but it isn't low quality.

Soundtrack: There is some attention to detail here, the pieces shift and cut when the scenes end, the girls are voiced by moans when the scene requires it, and ambient sounds are included, all in all it isn't shoddy work you can tell someone gave it some thought.

Writing/Story: Now we're getting to the good part, the story follows the protagonists, Ayumi and Kento as they go on a vacation with their friend Terrace. Part way through, Kento's ex is introduced.

The tropes are all there, Ayumi is a shy but exhibitionist slut, Terrace is your filler bull character, Kento is a shy passive cuck, and Ari is a pushy devious ex who "knows" about he MC's kink.

The colors are all the same you've seen in any other NTR, the refreshing part is the way the side-cast is handled, Ari is pushy and devious, but she seems to want to have fun with the MC and his kink. Terrace may be the bull, but he is also relatively shy and laidback.

And the story, was progressing in the slowest most excruciatingly good slow type of burn, but as it spent so much time on the climbing up to the diving board, it's now in a grand 4 spins 5 double-jumps 3 figured athletic dive, this WILL be jarring, hot. But jarring.
I feel I have to comment this too, it isn't poetry, and it isn't your typical VN dev with his passing 10th grade English mark trying his hand at writing, the dev can write.

Closing Thoughts/TLDR(contains spoilers): It's a darn good VN so far with controversial choices, in a world of NTR, it's NTS. In a world of hand-drawn/koitatsu/wathever engine, it's using AI but it's using it well.

I will say this though. The story threads DANGEROUSLY close to feeling NTR (only in feel, because in practice you, the MC, as okay'ed more or less everything that goes on). If you're into Exhibitionism and NTS this will be right up your alley.

unlike most of games with these trope, the NTR/Corruption comes with a lot of story progression, really looking forward to what comes next each update.

the AI CG might put a lot of people off but this is probably one of the best IMO, consistent, very pretty heroine as well.

Has huge potential but a bit boring as of V0.5.0

+ Character designs are great.
+ Writing is above average aside from the pacing.

= I don't really care for the animation style. Would rather just have still CG but it's not a big negative.

- The disclaimer at the beginning of the game was not kidding when it said this is a slow burn. I'm not the type who needs immediate slutification or just skips to the gallery or whatever, but idk how many times "yes I like being teased" and "yes I like it when you attract attention" needs to be rehashed. There is a difference between slow progression and almost no progression.

I love the game but I can't recommend it to anyone looking for the NTS experience for the time being unless you like being blueballed or have literally nothing else to play/read.
Sure, there is a huge amount of text but almost nothing happens. A huge nothing burger imo.
The biggest thing I've seen is some exhibitionism and lesbian kissing.
If you're looking for some actual netorase sex or sharing content, you're out of luck (at least for now).

Edit: Okay, I MAY have been a little too extreme with my review. There ARE vanilla sex scenes and they are also pretty hot between the MC and the FMC. If you're into femdom and "what if" situations and roleplays, then this is the game for you.

The art looks good and unlike many other AI games is fairly consistent.
The story is a bit shallow at times and it feels more and more like a kinetic novel. Far to few choices with little to no impact.

This game is extremely hot. The best part is the writing, but the art is a very close second. There's some spelling and grammar mistakes throughout the game that could be fixed with a proof reading. Sometimes as simple as the wrong but similar word being used. The other reason I didn't give this game 5 stars is because it's AI art. Most of the time it's fine and you probably won't be looking too closely anyways, but there's definitely a point or two where it throws you off. There's a background image near the beginning where it has an outside window on the wall showing the sky, but on the other side of the wall is clearly a bedroom. It's the common inconsistences that you get from AI art. This game has some very surprisingly consistent art with the characters, and honestly the occasional "wtf is that?" in an image might actually be better than games that have multiple artists contributing pieces that are clearly from different people's styles.

Overall, it's a great game and just needs more polishing. One thing to note however is that this definitely falls closer into kinetic novel than visual novel. There's a choice or two that's significant, but it seems most don't matter or are just to skip ahead over bits of fetish content players may not care about.

For me, this is probably the best NTR game i have ever played, for a couple of reasons.

This is slow paced, but not in a bad way. The story builds up in a realistic way, and it does not jump the gun. And the story is amazing, and its very well written. Like a fine vine, you want it to last, and you don't want to skip to get to the naughty graphics. If you do, you will absolutely miss out.

The characters are likable, and i feel as if everyone is doing whatever they are doing with respect of the MC. And the MC and his girlfriend are exploring things TOGETHER. No one is hurt, no one humiliated. Its pure excitement and it feels both forbidden and realistic.

I love how you don't get to see everything but instead is teased and given room for your own assumptions and fantasies. You get to feel what the MC feels.

The graphics are AI generated, sure. But i think it looks great, and i don't mind one bit. I bet there is a ton of work put into it regardless.

This game is a rare gem on here that manages to take the feelings of desire and lust and work them into a character-driven story that I personally would read even if the sex was "fade to black". The effect choice has in this game is pretty limited for now. I don't know if that will change much in future. At the moment you're choosing how far you go rather than what you will do as a character. Maybe that will change, I don't know, but I'm enjoying where we are right now. And with how fast the updates are coming out and the QUALITY (AI done right) it's one to support if you can or at least grab for your library on itch.io.
