Which version is the most complete/playable with the most content?
not easy to say. the last version with the old (LOK style) art was the 5.3, from there on they changed the art style. up to ~v7.1 they kept adding/updating art; from there on out it's been sketchy, with some added and some others occasionally removed. the two latest, 7.7.1/7.7.2, have animations missing that still used to exist in earlier 7.x, while the turmoil behind the scenes was already going on.

S-Purple, the "dev" who started work on Cloud Meadows, was the lead artist on Breeding Season. He released the demo, which was a complete rip off of Breeding Season. When HBomb approached him about what's going on, he got silence. Than when S-Purple finally officially quit, HBomb tried to buy his art assets off of him (HBomb made the mistake when he hired S-Purple to let him keep ownership of everything he created, along with splitting all the money the game generated), and S-Purple pretty much flipped him off and threatened to send a lawyer on him if he continued to use his art assets.

So HBomb decided to just quit rather than go out and find a new artist and re-do all the art for the game. He was royally screwed over by S-Purple.

S-Purple backstabbed HBomb, Breeding Seasons creator and stole the entire idea behind Cloud Meadows for his own financial gain.

Cloud Meadows is basically S-Purple's rip off of Breeding Season. He re-used a lot of his art assets from Breeding Season and the plot is similar to it.

It was the artist of Breeding Season, S-Purple, who made the game fail and stole the idea from HBomb, the creator of Breeding Seasons, to make Cloud Meadow.
Huge ugly business, in all senses of the word!
Really sad abandoning the game, because it's a great idea. I played until the debt was repaid, and was really looking forward to a decent ending.
My hope was that someone picked up from where the creator left, but I didn't know there were so much stuff behind the abandone. Guess the chance of it ever being finished is close to zero, then. Really really sad!

Just FYI, HBomb wasn't innocent either: think yanderedev - great game concept, stuck in development hell for eternity milking money because it's easier than admitting he couldn't finish.

Hbomb was streaming while he 'worked' and it was quite clear from the streams he had extreme difficulty concentrating and hardly any progress was made.

If he had been motivated, he could've hired a team of animators to remake the art when SPurple left with the patreon money he was raking in. But he didn't, cause he was secretly completely burned out on the project too.

A true shame, and I don't think Spurple handled the end properly, but I do agree with him that if he had sold the assets hbomb wouldn't have finished the game but just keep squeezing out revenue from patreons (like cloud meadow is doing now, funnily enough).

Tldr: they're both talented assholes.

It's just....soo frustrating, because the concept isn't complicated!

Just have:
1. Monsters.
2. Make them breedable.

That's it! Maybe some variety like skins, genetics(more human dna=more human appearance, more monster=more feral appearance), and if you want to be nice? A dedicated ingame family-tree system.

Instead, these folks go on HUGE, multi-year long "efforts" to create hollywood-level side plots about romance, some complicted main-game plot, unnecessary open world combat, some silly OC characters, or making a huge world, etc etc etc....

Year after year, dev after dev, NOBODY can make a "finished" breeding game.

I bet even in the future, with having an AI dev kit to help with the coding, folks will STILL have a hard time making Breeding games...

I understand what you mean, but those "superfluous" elements give value to a game. After all, a plain breeding game would be kind of repetitive and palling in the long term!

Maybe, but it's literally the framework of the game. Literally nothing else matters if you don't have monsters you can breed and animations thereof. Even the original game decided to pivot and completely switch art styles before the first one was even finished. It should have been a sequel and waited until the original game was done.

actually, BS is kind of 'finished' even since the 5.x versions, because at that time you could already have the main storyline finished, by paying off all debt. the big downfall went with adding more and more creatures which some of them imo making no sense, like Mandrake. it's an exponential curve of animations to create what with all them variations they've put on the list.
there's one ani for each pair of creatures, one for each of the pair having different gender traits, then the feral forms and the neoteny forms and all that follows. they should've finished stuff for what they already had set back then. i understand part of it was serving their 'paying customers' demapds but we all know that didn't end well.

That's the issue though. Breeding games....need to be about breeding. Once that's finished, polished and robust, everything else is optional.

Like having a racing game, but nu uh, can't race, gotta do a dozen fetch quests for some rando npc bc some mouthbreather donated $400 to have their self-insert OC to be put in the game.

Or, the dev has always wanted to do a cooking game, so they go off the deep end and baitswitch people who were here for the breeding mechanics.

Anyway, the point is....are you making a game with some side stuff about breeding? Or are you solely making a breeding game? Because alot of these devs pretend to be the latter, but end up sliding into the former once they have your money. This why we'll never have a truly finished breeding game.

Under the point of view of a breeding game, strictly speaking, Breeding Season is a finished game! We have the breeding mechanics, and even some goal (completing the requests)! But would you consider BS a properly finished game? I wouldn't, simply because a basic core doesn't make a game! You need several other things, like story and progression mecanisms, that stimulate you to keep playing. To reach a final goal, and the feeling that you are actually "building your road" to reach this goal! Let's face it: if the entire experience is just crossing species to have offspring, and then sell it to make money, this would become pretty boring, pretty soon! Even if this is the proposition of the game! You have to feel that there is a point in the breeding, otherwise it becomes just grinding! And the extra stuff, like the relationship mechanics, where you unlock new interactions with the characters based on how much they like and trust you, is a good way of expanding the experience!
I agree that the priority must be the core! If the breeding mechanics sucks, then doesn't matter how many extras you have, or how brilliant your story is, the game will be crap! But it's not enough to make a full, well polished, game!

I feel like, in the future, those brave souls whose gonna try to defeat this breeding game curse next should do research on actual irl world of breeding (racehorses, cattles, dogs, etc) and find out what can be gamified into a satisfying mechanics in a breeding game

up on the top of my head: creating good pedigree of winning breed, or selectively breeding a breed that's famously good for doing X in comparison to similar breed, or breed that's famous for having metallic shine fur or produce milk, champion runner or jumper stud pedigree from stable X, something like that

Dude, there is a mega link, download all of them, there is a ruffle plugin, unzip it to a folder, then go to ruffle and select the 2.3 GB file you downloaded from mega and start it, ruffle opens it easily

one can hack that one special monster, no matter what traits, and then sell it to complete the quest. no matter if that monster has the added traits inactive, they still count for the quest.
check the 7.x codes list, that one is case sensitive, means capitals and spaces in names must be exactly written
addtrait.mostername.traitname
-can be done multiple times for the same monster
-EVERY monster with the same name will get these changes, so better make sure this one has a unique name, to avoid slip-ups, and rename just in case.

..know what, here the 7.x codes as a text file, to save you some time. View attachment 5057417 right click, save as..
So, unfortunately, I can confirm that altruistic cannot be manually added to a selfish monster, and vice versa. Using the debug commands and cheats to manually add the traits to a monster does not work. In either case, doing so results in an error message referring to the attempted addition as incompatible or impossible.

I'll start a new save at some point, but it's just disappointing to run into when things like this happen in any game.

hmmm probly they coded a lock to avoid certain constellations that would cancel eachother out, like those two. then, there shouldn't pop any job requesting that combination, either. so, looks like sloppy coding on the request part.
best bet is ('save scum', it's what i do, too) to save right before taking a new 'high level' job, and just load that one if the request is not to your liking. saves grind, too.
