I've given up on going roundandaround in Oldtown and concluded it's a bug.
As this game is meh at best I'd rather spend my time on other games that work
Faerin just released a new MotH update a few days ago, gonna go check that one out

Great, looks like the 1.0.0 i have here is also a free version, cause the file you spoke about is nowhere to be seen.

Just put it in the folder, it does not need a specific sub folder itself. Where the exe is, thats enough.
For me it worked without a hitch.
But the game is a buggy pos. The tavern bug made me stop playing it. Next time i try i at least have the file.

"yiff.party" is a website that allows to share Patreon posts if you are a patron.
The are several posts that are named "Thanks!", and what they have in common is that the devs thank for the continued support as well as the announcement of a new version.
Edit: The last one isn't there yet, that's why the hypothesis.
