I'm not an art guy, so this is temporary until I can afford to pay someone for art.

Burger Bastion is about a guy who becomes manager of a small town diner-motel hybrid, right as it's being bought by an overseas company who have ambitions of re-branding the franchise as a sort of Americanised version of a maid cafe .

The main character will be in charge of hiring, firing, outfits and policies, while answering to the new parent company.

The diner-motel itself will have it's secret history revealed, and there will be unique guests showing up for a meal or a place to stay the night, as well as town events.

So far I am just working on a linear story that runs from start to finish. So I don't become overwhelmed and confused.
Then I will add branching.

Demo coming soon!

Sounds great!

Don't worry about the art initially - write a coherent, sexy story. ideally with good atmosphere or humour, whatever style you are going for.

Then think about how you are going to make it fun - is it a linear KN/VN that the player just follows along with minimal branches, but the player is rewarded by the good story (or the fetish scenes)?
is there puzzles or mini-games? is there a mystery to solve? or do you make the player "grind" a bit so they feel rewarded when they get the next smutty scene?

You don't need to flesh out the details of the entire story arc, but you should have a detailed plan for the major events and developments through to the finale.
You DO need to have a full script for the first release. Ideally you'd have a documented series of smaller scene ideas that you can use through the story.

Get some feedback from playtesters! Constructive criticism is gold.

Beware "advice" from people pushing their own fetish - scratch your own itch, else you'll get sick of the project.

Finally, once you're more sure you have got something worth committing to, then commission (or render or whatever) the art. the art is the most time consuming (and therefore expensive!) thing.

Edited first post with Premature Demo 0.1.

Includes one day in the story world, in rough form.
Tomorrow I hope to have day two ready.

Added another row of screenshots to the first post.

The story is slowly inching itself together.

Made a graph of the story thanks to .
This is maybe the first half or third of the story.

renpy-graphviz-small.png

The first half will be:
- Diner and workers run the way they typically do.
- Developing the characters.
- Mostly mild teasing.
- Learning about all the towns mysteries.

The second half will be:
- Diner and workers have a new unique business ethos.
- Corrupting and seducing everyone.
- Getting conclusions to towns mysteries.

Updated first post with more screenshots.

So far there are 3,500+ lines of dialogue. I want to aim for 10,000 in the complete story.

Going to try and kick myself to make another premature demo ASAP, for whoever cares to try it.

Edited first post with a new demo containing the 3rd day.
I feel I'm getting the hang of Ren'Py now.

The story is still rough around the edges, and has some consistency errors. But I want to get all the broad strokes of the story done, before I iron out the details.

Hopefully 4th day will be ready tomorrow soon.

Remade the main screen to better hint at the story. It's animated.
screenshot0020.png

Remade the booth screen with layering so it reads better. (Headaches.)
screenshot0021.png

Trying to learn some programming. For later features.
I won't add user interaction till the main story is done.

Wrote a ton of code so the game is now sandbox/roll play style.
screenshot0004.png
Characters will be story hubs, like Fallout.
screenshot0003.png
Rewrote the intro to explain a bit more of the world, and drew up a few more scenes.
screenshot0002.png

Before I release another premature demo I want to:
- Convert current linear story to sandbox style.
- Do a bunch more art.

Currently the apartment and diner are 90% explorable.
Just need to populate with more characters & interactive objects.

Finally rounding the corner on a ton of boring tedious code stuff.
Features include:

Day/night + room lighting system, that allows for different dialogue.
The motel will be visited by terrorists and spies you will need to help deal with.
So there will be spy mechanics.
screenshot0005.png

Added quest system where the entire quest can basically be defined in one .rpy file, including menu choices.
When you speak to characters, active quests are asked for additional menu choices.
This means even mods will be able to tie into pre-existing menus.

screenshot0009.png screenshot0007.png

Started on a Perk Tree system. I still suck at understanding the Ren'Py UI.
Eventually this will be more like a spread out map/network.
screenshot0010.png

Inventory system is mostly complete.
You can add + remove items from drawers and cupboards and even people.
I think there will be pick pocketing where you can steal or plant items on people.
screenshot0008.png

Now to actually work on content and making things look nice.

What are you talking about?! The design & coding the "systems" and mechanics is most interesting! ;););););)

I still don't understand a lot of Ren'Py, and Google search is getting worse.
But I'm figuring things out.

Lately I've added:
- Over 10 more outfits for house mates.
- A few more home scenes.
- Diner menu. This will be part of the mission system later.
screenshot0015.png

- Inventory icon previews + 6 items drawn up.
screenshot0017.png

- Redrew a bunch of diner/motel scenes.
screenshot0012.png screenshot0011.png screenshot0013.png screenshot0014.png

- Redid a bunch of home scenes.
- Started on a movie theatre for the Town location.
- Started on a bar for the Town location.

- Implemented A-Star path finding for mission way points, so it's easy to know where to go.
screenshot0016.png
- Phone/app UI to manage all the meta-menus.
screenshot0018.png
- Shop's and gift giving:
screenshot0019.png screenshot0020.png
- Lock picking:
screenshot0022.png
- Started on a simple combat system, though the game is non-violent. There are spies/terrorists you can defeat. And maybe I'll use it for a worker "training" system.
screenshot0023.png

And lots of graphical improvements and tweaks.
