The issue I have with bitter sweet stuff is that my heart just can’t take it.

I get that, I just personally LOVE works that can make me want to CRY, not just tear up (or just feel scummy the way most NTR does). If they can, it automatically is in top favorites for me because I don't cry often. The only stuff that has made me cry (that I remember) is Your lie in April, Greatest Showman (Ik, not anime or whatnot, but the beginning made me cry), and Midori Days (I guess I'm a slight emotional masochist? Lol).

(though, I think the 2nd one had a pretty sweet ending from memory?).

Ya... I think I misremembered how sad it really was... there were definitely better examples like "Sweet Dreams Grenadine" by the same person or "Kidnapped on the Mountain of Sorrows" by Ishimari Yuuya. (More loli(babaa) doujins... huh... (near) immortal girls with mortal men relationships... I'm, starting to see a theme with what I like...)

If you can handle VERY FUCKING LONG visual novels, I reccommend Hoshi Ori Yume Mirai and Gin'iro Haruka. Both can take 60+ hrs to complete all routes. Neither of the games are exceedingly wholesome, but the romance in both games is pretty good. None of the drama is overblown nor to unrealistic. The romance is pretty in-depth and we see how the MC and the chosen heroine have affected each other over the years when you reach the adulthood portions (unfortately they are shorter than the highschool portions). It's just two characters who love each other going through life together. I would love to continue talking about how good the romance is, but I suck at explaining things. Now time to list out some of the differences:

-GinHaru has a middle school section. Just a small amout of romance.
-HohiOri's protag has a goal (architecture) to parrallel the goal of the heroine, while GinHaru's protag only wishes to help the heroine achieve her goal.
-Not much else I can think of that would make sense with out the needed context

Warnings:
-HoshiOri has one mediocre route; Misa's route
-GinHaru has a step sister route. Is absolutely avoidable
-Each route in both games take about 10+ hours
-There a quite a few h-scenes per heroine and can get quite annoying to deal with.

If I had to absolutely choose only one, HoshiOri would be the one.

My kind of wholesome is different from most. I wish I could describe how, but I really can't. Most of toneworks VNs are indeed very wholesome with normal expectations.

I've actually played this one before, but between the bugs and the developer (they're a netori dev) i didn't really enjoy it

Edit: It actually doesn't seem to be possible since the system has a limit of 10 tags you can include and/or exclude, that's just not enough to cover all of the things.

Makes sense.. but 10 should be enough to generally get good results
Ntr, incest, rape, mind control, humiliation, and swinging should be enough- removing those basically filters it to games that AREN'T horrifying to look at, and from there you can just filter them yourselves

Oh, I’ll fix it in a bit then.
In the meantime, I’ll give a mini review of Room right here:

It’s such a weird game, on one hand the FL is so lovable and sweet, and the writing, ui design, and voice acting is all super good
The Pure Love Route is SO adorable and is by far the cutest thing I’ve seen besides 1Room- it’s only held back by the fact that the game ends soon after it begins.
But.. how does the SAME developer have the heart to put this in a game where the encouraged route is the EXACT opposite?
I don’t want to get into it- nor do I exactly know what it was (besides from screenshots when I was scoping the game out), but here’s the main tags that are exclusive to the bad route:
Voyeurism, Blackmail, Rape, Humiliation, Corruption, Mind control/break

I don’t understand how games like these have to heart to have BOTH routes in the exact same game, but I can’t stop myself from playing JUST to see the wholesome routes. It’s weird how these tend to be the games with the best romance.
