One way is to use the fire spell on the eye, once he is close enough to it (that will burn him good, especially since the eye reacts to heat, as you can learn during the quest). In certain scenarios, you don't have to fight him, because you are in cahoots with him.
Does that answer mean that there are more than one way to solve this quest?

No, but technically yes. What he's referring to is that if you got roped in with a certain group and were working with him, you're in cahoots with him and are helping him. But no, once you've started the quest and known who you're fighting for (Merchants/Zanti/town guilds) your one way to solve the quest has been determined.

I finally found the quest list in the game, and realized that I haven't completed "The Missing Link" quest. The crater is the lake at the top just above the forest, right? What do I do to confirm that?

First of all, make sure you check the walkthrough, that might have what you need (there should be a link in the game's folder). In this specific case, the crater is not what you are looking for, but it's a frame of reference. You must search on the map the mountains straight to the west of the lake.

"During the weekend I worked a bit more on TOTDC 2-"
Presumably the 2nd project leads to caliross development speed being halved.

Well, it's not like I usually work on sunday and saturday, unless I fell behind during the week and I need to put in some extra hours. I generally consider weekends to be my own time, which I can spend however I like. I do have some plans to perhaps work on both games alternating them each month, to ease the transition between the two near the end, when Caliross is almost done. This would have the benefit of me continuing to get more or less the same number of CGs each month without writing as many scenes, helping to fill up the gap, at least partially.

Didn't even know you were working on TOTDC 2. While I liked the first I wish it had featured hardcore content like gangbangs. I don't remember if it even had any anal. The pornstar subplot was disappointing in that you weren't forced to do any degrading scenes.

Anyway got a chance to play Caliross again after taking a break for a few months and I like the new content that's been added

I am rather squeamish, but I think gangbangs and anal aren't all that extreme, especially in a fantasy (it's not as if I am directing a movie with real people) so I don't even think I avoided those purposefully, it might just be that I didn't have good images for them.

The pornstar subplot will continue in TOTDC 2 (if you started it in TOTDC 1), and I think I'll have the man push for something more, this time around (although I haven't thought about the details yet). I am considering perhaps releasing a small update for the original TOTDC, since I had to change how the data is exported to be usable with Ren'py (it's rather crude, but players will have to copy/paste a series of number they will get at the end of TOTDC 1 into a .txt file in the game folder). Since I did that much, I might prepare some minor extra content, like some random events and a short quest, if I find the time.

Of course, I'll prepare a "standard" start and a series of questions for those who want to try new starts without having to replay TOTDC 1 multiple times.

Glad to hear you are liking the new content in Caliross. ^_^

I'm a little bit curious about TOTDC. How did you balance the game? It seems to be quite well balanced through the whole play through so wondered if you structured / planned all /most of the quests and storylines out before you made it or did you just go with an overall (chaotic) plan and then worked your way through from there?

Generally, for most of my games, I first decide how I want the game to play, and settle down on some of the main mechanics. For example, I knew I wanted to make a game on RAGS that had a bit more RPG sprinkled in it, with combat, and I wanted a different system for the mind control (so instead of a "you lose" if your willpower reaches 0, I made it so that the "willpower" of the game affected the corruption rate). For Caliross, I wanted some Zelda-like puzzles, a turn-based combat system and bit of choices and consequences like classic CRPGs.

At the same time, I also try to settle for the main themes, and then I think of the story. I try to have an idea for the main story and its trajectory at this point, while I start playing around with the mechanics, and I try to think what fits best. I never have the luxury of taking a long time to plan everything in detail, so a lot of the details are "improvised", but I always do my best to make it work with the original outline, I rarely ever go back to modify the premise or the characters' personalities, unless I think I did something really wrong.

Once I have the general idea, I just go with the flow. I am just one person, and I don't really have enough time to think carefully so most of the games are first drafts, with some revisions inspired/suggested by testers and players (that's why there are many typos, for example, although testers help with that whenever they can).

is there a way to see all scenes, or have a save to view scenes in a gallery mode?
If you just want to unlock the CGs in the gallery to see them all, use the travel sphere in the key items, and interact with the npc in the bottom left. There is no replay function for the actual scenes (with a few exceptions that unlock and you can watch if you masturbate on your bed).

For as good as everything is about the game, knowing I'll be stuck hearing that ear drilling soundtrack kills my enjoyment substantially. Why would anyone put something with such annoying instruments as the main town theme is beyond me.

I couldn't find a town theme I really liked that would fit, honestly. I bought some new tracks recently, however, maybe I should give them a chance. It's surprisingly difficult to discover something that sounds the way I want it, though, and I heard enough people tell me that they lower the music''s volume regardless (available in the menu), so I didn't feel too motivated to improve it.

What does Hanatora's statue in the second temple do?
On one hand, you'd think that Shapeshifter goddess wouldn't really be harmful to said Shapeshifters, but neither brainwashing nor it being written in red, look like it'll be anything good.
