Can anyone tell why 3d games receive such higher reception than 2d ones?

I'm not going to ascertain that 2d games are better or that it isnt fair, but for the little time i've spent on this site the bias towards any 3d content which are most of the time visual novels or at best sandbox gamess is clear to see.

Despite thinking about it though, i couldn't really come up with any proper answer without simply speculating for or against the favor of the people on this site, so im curious to hear it from the people themsevles who prefer 3d over 2d, or someone who simply understands the topic better.

To specify, i mean to specifically exclude stuff like koikatsu models and any games that include them, altough it has its audience, the 3d games im talking about are infintely less stylized anime- esque and more realisitc in apperance, and are the actual dominant type of game on the site.

Also, im including both 3dcg and 3d games if that wasnt clear

I can't speak for everyone, but I suggest this bit might have something to do with it. Certainly for me, I would say the more realistic-looking the better. It just helps me with the immersion when I'm playing a game.

2D games are plenty popular in their own right. Summer Time Saga being the obvious stand out. But higher fidelity and graphics will always win overall, it's just how our brains are wired, we're visual monkeys, and good 3D realistic graphics make our unga go bunga.

Not just about porn games even (were admittedly the visual factor is extra needed for obvious reasons). Look at normal games: you have excellent and popular 2D games like Hades, Hollow Knight, Balatro, Undertale just to name a few. But in the end, the most general popular will always be the Fortinites, CoD, Fifa, Souls-like, etc. Yes those games could be made in 2D, and still found success, but them being in HD 3D willa lways attract a broader audience, because again, we monke.

I know a lot of my gaming buddies prefer realistic 3d graphics when they play on Xbox or PlayStation and tend to shy away from games with more stylized graphics(ex. Borderlands, tales of series, Star Ocean, stardew, etc) and maybe other who have similar feelings on graphics, it bleeds into their porn game tastes.

Could be that some 2d lack animation, or go heavier into fetishes that don't appeal.
Could be as of late the rise of AI art, and it's divided reception.

Now as Lerd0 said, there are a ton of 2d games and several are super popular, and earn bank.
But as for maybe why they get lower ratings, there's tons of reasons. But then again a shit ton of 3ds get low ratings or get dropped due to low interest in them.

Me personally, I prefer both.

11 are 3d 3dcg
5 have human models
3 are strictly text-based
21 are 2d 2dcg

(if ai-cg is a tag - looked at the other tags and/or the supplied sample images to determine if the ai was generating 2dcg, 3dcg, or human-like models)

It appears that 2d/2dcg may have higher reception than all the others combined.

Rating are a different ball game though, you can have alot of good reviews which gives it a high rating, but the actual amount of people who played the game is minimal, the higher the number of people review a product, the greater certification of its quality, atleast in theory, it doesnt go that well always

Rating are a different ball game though, you can have alot of good reviews which gives it a high rating, but the actual amount of people who played the game is minimal, the higher the number of people review a product, the greater certification of its quality, atleast in theory, it doesnt go that well always
