Can anyone tell why 3d games receive such higher reception than 2d ones?

Rating are a different ball game though, you can have alot of good reviews which gives it a high rating, but the actual amount of people who played the game is minimal, the higher the number of people review a product, the greater certification of its quality, atleast in theory, it doesnt go that well always :KEK:
in latest updates, the sorting by rating is done by "weighted rating" which isn't just an average as it takes number of reviews into account. this prevents new games with only 5 star reviews from soaring to the top of weighted rating list. sure, there are exceptions with games with unusually many reviews in a short time, but look at the top rated when sorting by weighted rating and most of them have millions of views and many likes.

if you instead sort by likes, the result will be more heavily impacted by how long the game has been in development. same with views.

eh im not sure, i think there are loads and loads of 3d games because learning DAZ3D takes like a week to start making somewhat decent renders, while if u want to make a 2d game you'll need ur own art style and learning how to draw at a decent level takes years and years of practice, and then on top of that you'll need to know how to code and write a somewhat okay story - so you'll need decent set of skills which a lot of people dont want to take the time to learn for a side hustle type of project.. so you're just more likely to find 3d games because I think its overall easier to get decent DAZ renders and then know how to code and write a story. I think in my expierence if people on this site had an option of a great visually looking 3d vs and great visually looking 2d game most people would pick 2d because a vast majority of 3d games end up looking the exact same

I can not answer the question, because for me 2dcg and anime-esque 3dcg are MUCH preferred.

but an advantage for 3dcg (of any look) may be that they can get animations more easily ?
2D games are plenty popular in their own right. Summer Time Saga being the obvious stand out. But higher fidelity and graphics will always win overall, it's just how our brains are wired, we're visual monkeys, and good 3D realistic graphics make our unga go bunga.
For me it is different, maybe because 2dcg/ "drawn" look makes it easier to take it as a fantasy?

The actual answer is simply that there are MORE 3d games, because 3d is easier to learn, or at least easier to do at a passable level that doesn't burn people's eyes.

As pointed out in other responses. I'm pretty sure overall that 2d games get a better reception.

It was said in another thread (that I agree with) good 2d>good 3d>crappy 3d> crappy 2d.

This thread might as well have been called "Hello, can I create an echo chamber for people who prefer 2D games and want to bitch that there are too many 3D games and also 2D is objectively better, everybody knows that deep down, hello, are you listening to me?"

I kind of prefer 2D myself. Current 3D models are in this weird uncanny valley spot for me. Way more realistic than they used to be. Not quite realistic enough to not look a bit weird. But honestly this site and the few really good 3D games on it have made me appreciate the renders more.

Damn you cam out the wood work harsh, well, whatever helps you sleep at night :KEK:

Good 2D games are rare. Most of the ones I saw that had potential got dropped.
Im not trying to put words in your mouth but are you implying 3d games are? Im curious for your reasoning

Amateurish ones do i guess, but in general i wouldn't say that's what would turn one off from a 3d game

Im a fan of stborough minigames that are made with 3D assets but arent 3D. I tried also a game made in unity that involved porn but i forgot the title, was decent. The last game I tried with porn in it was almastriga, a promising game I followed for 2 years, now I go check every now and then if there are improvements but its slow.

Another 2D game I liked was the cougarX from same maker of almastriga, got dropped unfortunately. Could have become a good game.

I think by avg, theres less people into porn development, and we should try to network and put skills in circulation, or else situation will be the same forever, games that are promising will never get done.

By the way I have several ideas for eventual 3D porngames, im learning unity, is there a space in this forum where I can put forward these ideas? Id like to hear from some other people some inputs.

If you have 2 versions of the same game to select, one 3d and 12 2d, i´m sure the majority would pick the 3d version.
But that´s not the case. The majority of good games are 2d. Good 3d games? Good luck to find one.
Seriously the most so called 3d games are more or less tech demos than real games.

To try and honestly answer the question of why 3D games seem to be more popular, here are my thoughts on the matter:

-Most 2D games are usually from East Asia, while the audience on this forum is usually western, meaning there is a cultural divide there. If you consider only western 2D games, you'll notice that they tend to be pretty popular too, but there aren't that many of them because making 2D games is harder. (I know there are eastern games that are very popular too, but those tend to be the rare ones that find ways to bridge that gap)

-The above point contributes to this idea that 2D games are longer and have less sex scenes, because eastern VNs tend to be more story focused, while western games tend to have more of a mix of story and sex to keep people engaged. (I know there's eastern games that are all PWP fap fests, but those are also in the minority compared to long drawn out VNs). 2D games are also much more likely to contain mosaics censorship, or bad translations, than 3D ones. (Though there are also some atrocioulsy bad engrish in some 3D VNs too)

-There is also the argument that 3D graphics are more realistic, and people tend to prefer them over 2D graphics. I think it depends really, as both can be really good, but if I had to guess, I'd say most people prefer 3D visuals over 2D, as long as they are done well. (There's plenty of uncanny valley shit out there. I'm talking about beautifully rendered games.)

-Due to the ease with which making 3D games is possible thanks to Daz3D and stuff like Honey Select, those types of games tend to get updates faster than 2D games, which require that artists put a lot of time into drawing different scenes. (Sure, setting up a good render can also take hours. But once you have the character model and have done a couple scenes with them, using the same model in different scenes does become a lot easier than having to redraw the character entirely for every new pose.)
