I live in certain eastern country with dumb laws and i want to know is it possible for authorities to find out what exactly i downloaded from here? Is there anyway for them to identify contents or names of the files i download from mega or pixeldrain and similar hostings?
I know no one usually goes for random ppl that downloaded some porn from internet but still, if we imagine such situation. Can ISP look at what i download if needed?

You need to ask a lawyer not on a porn games forum. For legal, medical etc. always ALWAYS consult a professional in the field.

it depends what you're downloading with. often ISPs for example throttle your connection based on them deciding your data isn't important, like p2p traffic.

and if you're downloading just raw data then it's of course readable just like your email.

this is why VPNs exist, but against a state even that doesn't fully stop them because they can even fuck with any point of the hardware and people running it. like china (& US) has built-in backdoors in software and hardware 'just in case national security is threatened' which of course means any time they feel like it.

I would go for the VPN, and even then stay away from any high profile illegal smut that might get you especially targeted.

Your ISP can see everything you do.... Incognito mode, VPNs (most commercial ones) won't help.

They know the websites you browse, but they don't really know what you're doing there because of HTTPS, and they tend to turn a blind eye to your activities because you're paying them. However, they will fork over your data to the government if push comes to shove, but that only happens when you're getting investigated.

And btw, ISPs can't see through VPNs, all the data is E2E encrypted, that's kinda the point of a VPN to begin with.

Downloads are visible. He asked if they can see what he downloads. Most VPNs will give your browsing history to the authorities... Most keep logs even though they say they don't.

No they're not, direct downloads still go through protocols like https. It's why direct downloads are so problematic for authorities, they have to query the website to fork over the data of who downloaded what.

As for the VPNs, sure some do collaborate with the authorities, but because anonymity in this case is the service they sell, they'll typically fight tooth and nail to not have to fork any data.

Or just a random idea, use a VPN that is from a foreign country. Yes, that is not 100% save either and if you use one from questionable country, it may be even worse, but usually it means they need to have a lot more "work" to do to get to your data. And, if the VPN provider stores his logs only for 72h your logs might already been delete until the request for your data reach the VPN provider.:WeSmart:

I got contacted by authorities after downloading a massive file dump through Nord VPN 2 years ago. Keep believing what they tell you.

The problem about anecdotes is that they are just that, your story proves little beyond the fact that you can get caught, it doesn't even prove that nord vpn spilled the beans because there's dozens of ways to get pwned on the web.

Oh that's for sure. Chances are I fucked up. But unless you really know what you're doing (and op doesn't give off that vibe) it's better to avoid the risk entirely.
BTW the authorites don't tell you how they know you downloaded something (in my case 4chan terrorist propaganda lmao)... They just tell you that they know.

I do not think they would go out their way and give you trouble, since that would require resources. They will mostly likely give you trouble if it is a grave crime you committed, and usually, piracy-meaning things downloaded from here-wouldn't give you any trouble.
This is all just a personal opinion, take it with a grain of salt. I am never correct.

I think it's possible. Have you not heard about the persecution of torrent users in Germany? Thousands of people have been fined for downloading Hollywood movies.
