It was i believe a Renpy game and it had to do with this guy driving into town only to find that there was some magical mist that prevented people in town from leaving. I know it isn't a lot to go on and i know it isn't the game MIST. I played it a while ago and all i remember is you (Male MC) being trapped in the town and you are given a free house to stay in.

It's definitely Pine Falls. Fatman000 is right. You play a dude who was driving on this road heading somewhere and there was mist. He couldn't see and crashed his car. The sheriff found him and put him in this house in their town to recover and wait for his car to be repaired. Later on, he tried to leave but the mist turned him around so he wasn't able to leave. That's all I'll say because I don't need to spoiler the plot.
