Is there a way to keep the dire wolf as a companion, but trick the miller to think you killed it. So the MC can still have "fun" with one of the daughters?

But that way (sparing the wolf's life) you get to have fun with his wife, which is an even better reward anyway.

Visit the Inn in the MC's village on a Friday and he will mention Hog (the owner) isn't here. Ask Nancy for advise and then read the papers in the basement.

After that exit the village to the north and head northeast to find the hedge maze. Go all the way north to find the mansion. You can only enter it on Friday. After that progress with the questline.

EDIT: another thing to add...is there some kind of deep intelligent rational reason why you made it to where any potions or antidotes or other similar healing items other than FOOD is made to be only usable in freaking combat...stocked up on stuff and got poisoned in a dungeon while scavenging and EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ANTIDOTES ANDHEALING POTIONS I CRAFTED.... it's not listed in items while outside of combat and i have to get into a fight to use it...that kind of defeats any sense of common sense logic. (character in game>>> "shit i'm poisoned! let me go find something to fight so i can reach into my bag to use an antidote i took the time to make just for this scenario!"......>.>

Scroll down in the item menu. Potions (and many other items) have their own section in the menu.

If you are in a fight just click on item and your healing items will be there. As long a you have any that is.

ok. so it's scroll down within the initial options. i've never seen someone actually segregate potions from item inventory before. utterly thrown me off >.<

It's a shame that the MC can't have sex with Bessie or get his aunt pregnant more than once. Unless I'm not far enough into the game. Hopefully we get to see multiple pregnancies with the different women. I wish we could drink Bessie's milk instead of just watching a boring couple of renders of her milking herself into the jar.

I've noticed that when the MC asks Julia to move in the mansion she disappears after the morning and can't be found anywhere in the mansion. Does that depend if you are nice to her or threaten her before getting the Baron arrested. Is there an advantage of having her live in the mansion?
