A good phylosophy to follow, one I use as well. Expect the worst, be positevely surprised by anything better.
Thought, the time could be wonky depending on your perspective. Around the 2nd week of October could mean - for me - anything between 11-17 for example.

At forest you have to go all to the upper left, there you will find some plants that you can activate to pass to the other side of the forest.

The Boss antrum is not in the game yet, it'll be... If I'm not mistaken either the update after this one or the one after that.
