VN - Ren'Py - Companion of Darkness [S2 Ch.11] [Berkili4]

Oh boy. This is an interesting one to rate.

Pros:
-The concept for the plot is interesting.
-It has a very anime inspired storyline and progression, so If you tend to be a fan of anime, you will probably enjoy it.
-The character designs for the female characters are attractive and have a decent amount of variety.
-Renders are decent but not amazing.
-There is a decent amount of sexual content, so if you came to fap, you might have an alright time.
-Some of the combat animations are pretty cool.

Cons:
-The plot is currently full of holes, and not really executed all that well. There are several instances where if characters behaved in a realistic way, the story would have turned out differently.
-Anime storyline.
-Male character models are absolute trash. The MC especially looks like he came straight out of a TEMU k-pop band, and most Males just use the same model with different hair and clothes.
-Up until the last chapter, the sex animations are absolutely horrible. Clipping, weird jittering during "orgasm," unrealistic posing, absolutely weird things like flicking a girls pussy for some reason.
-The writing is not localized well. While it's not broken english, the wrong words or phrasing are often used, and the writing in general has that weird overly descriptive japanese vibe.
-MC has absolutely no charisma, but all the girls want to have sex with him for some reason. Then when they do, the vast majority of the sexual content is just weird and uncomfortable as if it was written by someone who has never had sex and has no idea how a normal person approaches foreplay or sex in general.
-Maledom isn't remotely actually dominant, it's someone who has no idea what being dominant thinks it might be. It's just weird.
-Sexual content rarely comes about organically, it just seems to be inserted whenever there seems to be a spot to shove it in.

Overall, it's just average. There is enough potential with the story that it could actually be really good if it was given an overhaul to up the overall quality. i.e. better dialogue, plugging plot holes, replacing male character models, and redoing animations.

As it stands now, it's worth a playthrough if you're bored waiting for a better game to get an update, but not much else.

Yet another pitiful... no... in this case, truly pathetic protagonist.
Instead of improving, or well, doing anything efficient, he just accepted that he is strong(-est) and goes on with that.

I have no slightest idea why or how he keeps winning outside of plot armor. As even any prepared opponent with decent strategic skills would be capable of tearing him apart, but nah, plot armor.

Anyways, even despite being a wimp, women keep throwing themselves at him.


Outside of the plot, characters and the one and only cardboard cutout of the protagonist.

The audio is decent with thematic music, which is nice.
For graphics, standard HS2 provides good scenery. Some people hate it, some people love it, I personally love it.

As for the erotica part of this game... lackluster.


I can't in my right mind give this game 1/5 due to how much effort has been put into this game, and anything about 2 just feels undeserved.

I've played until the beginning of chapter 5.
I had started losing interest earlier, but I wanted to continue, as I was curious about the story. Even that didn't get me past ch 5.

For an erotic visual novel, the story is above average.
However, to me, this is not really a fap game, at all.
The porn scenes are the least appealing part of the game, I ended up clicking past them at speed.
For erotic games, I have a reduced expectation for the story and plot. This game is above my average expectation for such.
But as I cannot see this as such a game, my story and plot expectations revert to normal non-erotic - and here this visual novel does not compete successfully.

Positive:
- story and plot (for a fap game)
- music and sound effects

Negative:
- story and plot (for a non-erotic visual novel)
- some story developments and world building elements are too constructed, too artificial.
- many scene and background renders are at most average quality.
- character renders are at most average quality.
- most characters look way too young for my tastes (to be fair, they are clearly adults as per story)
- animated sex scenes are uninspired and at most of average quality.

Excellent VN, one of the best on the site, it's now my second favorite after Cosy Cafe and, like Cosy Cafe, I immediately went and subbed to the patreon upon completion. So far all the LI's are great. Clara is cute and helping her come out of her shell felt rewarding, Amy is fun especially later when she reappears. For me though the best two girls are Noel and Blake, I like them a lot. Blake is the reason I decided to go full on Brotherhood.

Thanks for a great game dev, excited for more. Hopefully that extra 5 bucks a month helps with the development of the game!

- Story is the best feature of this VN, engaging and very interesting. Nice plots. However, I must say that in my case I found it a bit predictable at times, that being said, it has some remarkable moments.

- Characters: Most of them are well written, I like that MC is not the typical good guy and sometimes you can be a badass as well. Girls are fine, however, so far, I wouldn't call any of them "memorable".

- Music: Great tunes .

- Renders: Good Enough.

-Animations: Towards the end they got great.

Overall the game is great but not great enough to be a 5 stars IMO, from 1-10 I'd give it an 8/10, it's worth checking out,

Having played in a row with another project “stray incubus” I realized that such projects are just copying each other. Without idea repetition of 1 and the same in the hope of creating an interesting novel where the GG becomes a super strong ninja. As for this project, so it lacks a HEALTHY sense. Literally 1 stupid moment after another and so on in a circle. Again victory is not due to, but in spite of common sense..... Stronger opponents lose because the development of the hero at 0. If in the above-mentioned project hero develops, then in this he is just a dummy and wins because he is a GG....
The animations are default for HS. If you like anime, you will like the drawing, many characters as in other projects with the same “arcs” of the plot.

Conclusion: not fans of anime - to do here is nothing, fans of anime - ... well, you'll play, even if it's bad.

This game is really weird, the protagonist is pathetic, and that's literally his character, but somehow, even with everyone stepping on him, the girls just offer themselves to him, which doesn't make sense, but ok, it's porn, but the fact that the protagonist is treated like trash, without giving us the option to react is too much for me, I got furious playing this game.

Anyone in that situation, would at least try to react, but the protagonist doesn't, he simply accepts being abused, being punched, kicked and it doesn't stop there, the people close to him start to suffer abuse because of him, this is too much for me, I can't keep playing.

The protagonist is so pathetic, that even though he's an adult, his family gets a call from school because he's being bullied, the fact that the dev felt it necessary to add this only reaffirms that the protagonist's role is to be pathetic.

The characters, interactions, dialogues and subplots are childish.

Another big problem is the sex scenes, they happen at completely random moments, basically the dev pauses the story to add lewd content, the dev never heard of "time and place", there is no mood.

About the mystery, there is no mystery, everything is revealed almost immediately, and not even the dev took note of it because there's always a new plot hole.

Anyway, if you like being treated like trash, this game is for you.

Honestly when I first downloaded this game I only did so because I needed something to pass the time between other games updates. It was just a random whim.

This game quickly became one of my favorite games after I started playing it. It made me feel things beyond just arousal. Lol.

This game honestly has an amazingly well thought out story. In my opinion this is one of the best stories I have experienced in awhile. Personally I actually love story heavy games like this.

The LIs are all unique and beautiful. They are fun to chat with. I have replayed this game multiple times (probably like 10 times overall) and even knowing what's being said I still find myself taking my time to read the dialogue. I just genuinely enjoy these characters.

I am giving this game 5 stars because as I said it quickly became one of my favorites. It is absolutely top 3 of all time. I personally can't wait for the next update.

So to start off i played alot of renpy games because of the universal renpy mod. I got to about chapter 2 of this and started to read every line and no longer skipped to the next porn scene like so many.

Story

I never thought I'd care about stories in a porn game but this one changed my mind completely. The story is so good I played all 10 chapters and never even went to sleep before work the next day. I just had to know what was going to happen. I think the super power part is what sucked me into it. The charecter development and the emotions this game made me feel set this apart from any other game on here I have played. I didn't even care about the next porn scenes I just wanted to know what happens.

Scenes

The quality is good and there is multiple views angles and positions on most if not all the Scenes. Graphics are good. Great animations even the fight Scenes. The music goes great with some of the fight scenes as well.

Overall

The fact I even took the time to make a review shows atleast to me how much I care about this game. I don't know if I'll find a substitute while new chapters are being created...but if I had alot of money id so give the creator enough to have a good size team and crank chapters out like anime episodes. If you like superpowers and a Mc that could go good or bad depending on the situation he's in trust me you'll want to check this out. If you still are just in it for the porn scenes...this game got you covered as well. Just give it time and get absorbed into the story!

Also I recommend using the walkthrough mod because it always you to choose every option instead of saving and choosing 1 route and then reloaded back to the choices again. In this game choices matter scene wise atleast. You'll want to see em all .

Charakters are wonderful and I really love the looks and styles of them.
Story is interesting and has me pretty invested I will wait a bit for some Chapters to come out in S2 before I continue.

I love this game, the story is engaging and fun, the fight scenes are great and the music matches too, the story can go from fun to sad to funny which what makes this game special, keep up the great work!

Another story-first AVN, with an action fantasy take.

Like other popular AVNs, the story telling in this is great. The start is slow, because it jumps right in. Your choices, as the main character, matter, and will change the way the story plays out.

Character interactions generally aren't exclusive. You can opt into certain paths, or not, and you shouldn't be locking too much out. The depth of characters starts off shallow, with the MC and the characters themselves building up their own stories and pasts. The core lore has a nice little mechanic to explain away part of the knowledge deficit, and as the story progresses, Berkili4 slowly winds back the curtain, allowing for a fairly reasonable character depth expansion.

There are characters with worryingly little depth. Some of that is due to them not being explored (as of Chapter 10), and some of that is due to the characters not being particularly deep. Others, still somewhat shallow, are likely designed that way to allow you to make game-altering choices without locking you into certain aspects.

Like all good stories, this AVN lets you pick your poison on what you think about characters. You're likely to be wrong at least part of the time, with certain assumptions and actions shifting your perspective.

I don't want to spoil the story, but the only real problem you're likely to face is a fear of spiders. The game doesn't really focus too much on them, and due to the static nature, and art style, unless the fear is extreme, you should be okay.

There are also some failure states ('game over'), but every failure state I've deliberately provoked has resulted in the game winding me back to the choice set that triggered the failure. This is good design, as it allows the player not to stress about saving every minute. This doesn't mean that you can't cause character information lockouts, as there is a branching design.

I'm unclear on whether or not the 'harem' path will be all of the available scenes, as I'm not one to revisit H-scenes. But based on my choices in the games, there's no lock-out selection of opting into a character path, which makes it an accessible title, as well as a good story.

Replaying the game is a real possibility, as the story is interesting. I'm yet to attempt a full replay, but my feeling is that there are parts I could easily skip (up to choices), allowing me to pick and choose. This isn't a comment on depth or lack thereof, but accessibility. The game is largely memorable, and the lore is deep enough, but shallow enough, to have meaning, without being overwhelming and problematic.

At the current state of play (waiting for Chapter 11 to release), I'm struggling to think of any particular downsides.

There will be some who don't like the art style, but it's standard fare. The careful use and design of action sequences more than excuses any issues AVN fans are likely to have with certain other choices. (There are only so many hours in the day for rendering.)

There will be some who dislike the audio/sound options, and while I'm not the biggest fan of it, I didn't find it detracted from the game. My only minor gripe here is one which is common across Ren'Py, which is that the audio effects can play out longer than it takes me to read a few lines, leading to them feeling out of sync; but it's a me problem, and it's very rare in this AVN/game.

I can't really speak as to how much choices matter, other than knowing there are dialogue changes. I like the limited level of freedom, as it allows the story not to feel 'broken', while keeping the main character's core group (harem + others) cohesive.

While I didn’t like the school setup with an overpowered MC, a random bully with his gyaru/hot girlfriend (who turns out to be his sister/companion), and the hot sister’s friends finding the MC cute—like, can we move on from that? Overall, the story gets more polished later on, with characters actually having personality. What? The animation is noticeably better, so give the developers a chance to improve. This is type of game you has to get through the cringy base of the first few chapters to get to the good part.

Companion Of Darkness. This game has a good story about a creature (dark ones) in the game that lives with human in earth, honestly im not a big fan of superpowers or inhuman characters because usually the story kinda stale, like guy be strong guy conquered the world with little character development. But this game have like really cool character development, good story as well, and somehow the blends between inhuman and human characters is like a well blended smoothie IMO. its like something that comes out of netflix shows, if they make this as a series this is good shit ngl
Quality of the render is also good, sound is good. its just one of the best game i've ever play, and i hope the development of the game continues till the end

Hmmm, the game is really focus on the story, which has a great cast of character. Overall, I feel the story somewhat tragic, with love interest become primal power (i kinda forget the name), meaning they become immortal and not sure if the MC can be like that too. A very bittersweet story, worthy of trying

One of the Best games on this site. Deep Story and lot of Content! Perfect! i stumbled across this story out of boredom and was fascinatet from the Beginning until the End of the actual chapter 10. I'm longing for the next update!

The world-building in this porn game is hilariously good. The porn becomes secondary to all the cool shit the author comes up with, kind of like Superhuman if you've played it.

The love interests are great, although I'm still a little upset about Amy and what happened to her, this game puts you on the edge of your seat, although I do think the factions were Fallout inspired and i love it.

This is a very interesting story. Can't believe I didn't discover this one until now. Each chapter is intricately woven with hours of content to really immerse the player into the adventure. The content and world created for this game is well written and captivating.

Amazing story. Graphics clearly progress in quality throughout the chapters and by chapter 10 the game looks great and the animations are amazing. Only complaints I have is that the sex scenes are pretty lackluster. Could definitely do with some sex noises during them.

The original characters from chapter 1's bodies also look very similar to each other and seem to be extremely similar to the default body in Honey Select 2, the nipples especially would look nicer with some modded textures instead of the glossy default. The later characters created don't have this issue.

Overall an amazing game. Can't wait to see where the story is gonna go!
